Timothy Zahn
I'm afraid I've only ever read Icarus Hunt, but I must say it was probably one of the best science fiction experiences I've had... well... ever :P Does he write anything else? Other than Star Wars, I mean? I know shockingly little about him.
If I was you I'd losen up about the subjunctive
Aaargh! :P I feel like writing a third rant now... "Affect" and "effect" are two different words. "Affect" as a noun is rather archaic by now; its closest modern definition is the corresponding noun to "affected behaviour", or rather, "affectation" in terms of behaviour. In baroque music (as the German "Affekt") it referred to the general programmatic "point" to a piece, loosely defined. "Affect" as the verb is a

I find it interesting that in a society like ours "corporate interest" can be used as a curse word. If I may quote:
I would bet that the main reason that even changed was due to corporate intrest
"and therefore it's bad".
I will never declare piracy as being some sinister crime until developers begin being held accountable for their games. I was robbed of $50, and I intend to get that back.
So, are anti-piracy laws wrong, or will your no doubt righteous rage convince the authorities otherwise?

When something is alternate, it tends to switch between two states, rather than when it is alternative, which means what most people intend alternate to mean. In other words, saying someone lives an alternate lifestyle implies they have a lifestyle every other day. In recent years, however, this mistake has become so common that even the Oxford English Dictionary has started to merge the two meanings, giving each meaning as "alternate" to the other :P
She would have me wr

Oh goody! Finally! Thank you! Another thing that annoys me utterly is seeing someone write "then" when they clearly mean "than". People also don't seem to remember distinctions between "there", "their", and "they're", not to mention the fact that they forget that apostrophes or question marks exist. That's my rant :P

Iain M. Banks for me. I like his Culture novels for the exact opposite reason he (as it seems to me from their respective wiki articles) does, but he has this extraordinary ability to construct entire descriptive paragraphs out of single sentences that, contrary to what one might think, are not at all tedious or boring. I haven't read his literary fiction, though, so I can't speak for that...
Among other things, it means I still get to *buy* my copy of Galactic Civilizations II, and two expansion packs, no matter *how* many copies were pirated. Pirate one copy or a billion copies, the market for *honest* buyers, goes down exactly 0%.
Ah! Well explained - I get your point there now :) What about the other example, though? Granted that it's just as overly simplified as the first, if we assume infinite supply (as opposed to extremely limited supply,

I'm uneducated in the legality of these matters, but to me piracy is, regardless of whether it is stealing, is actually as good (or bad) as stealing, in the moral sense. Consider a hypothetical case: you have a company that decides to release a piece of software. They only have two copies of the software, and put it on their shelf. There are also only two potential customers. One customer buys the product, and finds a way to make it available for free on the net. The other
As a genuine liberal Democrat (which Obama ain't), I don't like Obama much and am uncertain I can even bring myself to vote for him. Nonetheless, when your hypothetical John (McCain) citizen questions his experience. eight time out of ten (charitably) it's because he's black.
My apologies. I meant a totally generic case, using Obama as perhaps not the best example. I frequently get annoyed when any criticism, however valid, is given to a black, and then thoroughly condemn

I live in Australia, but I visited New Zealand on a tour a couple of years ago. The place is wonderful. There are quiet (and fantastically beautiful) countrysides as well as busy (and fantastically beautiful as well) cities. I wouldn't mind going there again one day myself. I'd recommend it to you, but then I haven't lived there, so I'm not very aware of the politics (they sure love their rugby, though). I hope you find the right solution to your quandary :)

I, like many others, get quite annoyed when some company makes up some idiotic excuse. Taking this point to the extreme, though, yields an entirely unreasonable: "Oh, they're not porting it the PC! No matter what their reason is, it must be because they didn't want their product pirated." With this attitude, you can get the moral high ground over any company releasing a game not to be ported to the PC. It's just as unreasonable as an Obama supporter saying that the reason John Citizen cr
It would *GREATLY* add to the immersive experience and get a lot more sales if there was a campaign
A campaign with a good story is one that always has me liking a game. I actually have the opposite opinion of Helioforge - but then, everyone is perfectly capable of thinking for themselves. 1. I never actually owned the original C&C on PC (I got the PS1 version of it, and the awkwardness of the controls meant I could never really play the game and like it at the same t

On that point of being able to remember names of capships easily, and how it compares to being able to name fleets, might it not be a good idea to have automatic naming of a fleet after its leading capital ship? This would be advantageous in terms of recognizability in both name and function (considering that the capital so named would be labelled in type as well). Granted, this impairs naming of non-capital-including fleets, but perhaps could also be adapted: e.g. "1st Cobalt Fleet". This i

It seems sir Wookipedia attempted to make a frosty post to show up the hypocrisy of Stardock and failed miserably, in that his post didn't really make sense, in light of the fact that Stardock includes no forced DRM and his linked post, as has been pointed out, is not a post, and does not include DRM discussions. Whee! Sorry; I just pointed out pretty much what everyone else said, but I just couldn't resist...
Give the community a campaign editor and let us tell the damn story.
Now there's an idea! Perhaps, after giving us the tools for it, a competition could be held by IC to see who's got the best set-up or something... it could then be downloaded as an IC-endorsed mod. I don't know too much about software development, but it sounds as if it could take time off the IC crew in campaign construction, leaving time for other things, and let us (or the avid campaign-wanters) creat
So, after half a year of game existence, there is still no campaign...
They said the expansion would contain the campaign. Your statement would be more to the point as "So, after half a year of game existence, the expansion isn't out yet..." which is, I hope you'll admit, a rather insipid way of looking at it. If you calm down and wait, it'll come :)
