Total download size is around a Gigabyte according to a Dev in another thread. Download speeds were incredible. (was running the maximum speed for my connection almost continually) Started fluctuating about 70-80 percent in, but i guess that was just the extreme amount of people logging on and starting downloading. :)
Has anyone tried the Galaxy Forge Downloads link lately? I've looked all over the site and keep getting direct to the downloads page but that only has screenshots and wall paper on it. No Forge Tools or Map Editor. What gives? Thanks, JO
Well considering you're posting this, you are logged in, when i click download i get several additional links at the top for Maps, Mods, Replays and Galaxy Forge below those 3.<br/
Running an AMD X2 3800+, ATI x1950 Pro and 2GB DDR2-667 on Windows XP Home and i have to say it runs extremely nice at 1400x1050 with graphics at High (and specials at Very High) with Effects all turned on except Bloom. Only "slowdown" i've noticed sofar is actually in the main menu while its zooming from planet to planet as you click through options. If it passes the star it stutters just a tiny bit. But ingame no stutter is evident, not even in the thick of combat.
Reading the manual back-to-front: about 30 minutes. Figuring out how to play: 5-10 minutes, by doing the tutorials. No manual needed. ;)
Mine is currently fluctuating wildly. Between 522 KB/s (my connection max) and 40-100 KB/s guess the load is getting to the hired lines. ;)
Download in progress. Can't wait.
Transfer is instantaneous, since paypal basically shoves the money over to Stardock and then charges you, if your account is verified that is. Otherwise you'll need to make sure your Paypal contains enough money to purchase. (and transferring from your bank account to paypal will take a couple of days) Once your paypal payment is transferred you'll be sent the e-mail with the code you need to enter in Stardock Central to download the game. As for how long you'll need to wait be
hmm, 10PM GMT, lets assume they flip the switch after the working day. (5PM)
The trouble with true multi-threaded applications would be that they probably wouldn't run at all on a single core machine. Which is something makers of software will have to keep in mind for a long time to come.
^Strange that. My mate with a quad core plays sup com, it only ever max's out a single core, my laptop's dual core is only ever at 50% too (1 core) It is an even crappier game if it supports 16 cores, but not 2 or 4
It does, but it lets Windows do the distribution, AMD DualCore drivers actually make that work a little better than the Intel version. Core 0 is maxed out almost immediately. Look around the GPGnet forums for B
Hmm, have you entered the code stardock sent you by email? Or indeed wait till monday, its only a day off. :)
If Sins supports 4 cores it IS the first game ever, not even Crysis or FarCry 2 support 4 cores, its simply to hard to program and split all the operations and calculations into different cores. Still gonna tweak around a bit more and reduce the slots capital ships take, other then that, im happy
You obviously never played Supreme Commander, which can handle up to 16 cores at once. Not very efficiently past the first 4 mi
Start up Stardock Central, go into the "View" menu and check "show Pre-Release (Beta) Versions" The Sins beta will now be visible and available for download. Although the Devs have said that those of us downloading the beta just for release are only torturing ourselves needlessly (i'm one of them too btw) since the actual game has quite a few changes from Beta 4.
No worries Chang, we're just discussing the times the downloads will open up, they'll be available non-stop after that. :)
4PM EST is 9PM GMT if i recall the conversion correctly. So fairly late at night for us Euros. ;)
Well a Dual-Core CPU is listed in the Recommended System Specs, so my guess is, it will be able to utilise the functionality.
As far as i know both are the same thing, if you order the game through the sins page you'll end up at stardocks store where you can log in using your stardock account. Annatar is correct though, once the purchase is confirmed you will be e-mailed the serial number that you need to enter in Stardock Central, which grants you acces to the download. As for the new total gaming thing, Stardock = Total Gaming, its just their games portal. Buying TG Tokens is done through the Stardock store. ;)
Should indeed run quite nicely, but maybe your laptop is restricting power consumption a bit to agressively. A friend of mine has a 8600 Mobile version too in his laptop and can run crysis perfectly fine on medium-to-high providing he runs it in Dx9 mode under vista. (Dx10 mode has aweful performance in comparison for minimal gain in looks) When you're at home always run the laptop of its adapter, that should eliminate most of the power restrictions it will be under when runni
Ask a friend to download it for you (ie, install Stardock Central on his comp, log in, DL the game, back up to a couple of CDRs or a DVD) go home, and then use Stardock Central to restore the backup? I don't know if that would work, but it just might.
Welcome Ronald! I just loaded up beta 4 for the first time in a long while. Yes, you are going to be in for a nice surprise
Thank you :CONGRAT: You're a big tease, now i want retail even more. ;) Can't wait for monday. :) Although it'll be mid-day before i'll b
Ok, thank you :) Now to endure the wait until release on monday. ;)
The Iron Engine (the engine Sins uses) can take screenshots of any size.
Thank you for that information :) Will players be able to set the resolution for the screen captures by hand? It will ofcourse default to the resolution the game is running at, but taking a screenshot of larger size might come in handy sometimes.
Sounds quite reasonable, so probably around $25-$30 for me then. (netherlands)
I have a small question, is it possible to order the "Collectors Edition" DVD box as an addition to a digital download only pre-order? (i used TotalGaming Tokens to pre-order) I might just do that to get the game on a physical medium aswell as on my computer.
But conquering a planet through culture is certainly an option, and one i'm doing quite often in Beta 4. Each playable race has a structure that "broadcasts" their culture along phase lanes, when your influence over them exceeds their loyalty, voila, conquered colony. You will need to clean up the enemies orbital structures, since those remain, as will any ships he has in the system.
