Quality responses of course [e digicons][/e] @pyscho917 - Damn those are some ancient specs! lol. That certainly allieviates any reservations i might have had about system reqs ;) @my fist0 - i just installed speedfan myself, excellent little app there. So you say 68-70 is too hot? Yeah speedfan clocked me right around that after only about 10 minutes with nothing going on :-/. Looks like i need a good cooling pad...

So I'm finally getting back into Sins (with Rebellion! :D) after over 2 years but my old gaming desktop is no more. I currently have a pretty basic HP pavillion dv4 laptop. It's running a Core I3 second gen, 2.2Ghz, 6GB ddr3 RAM, and has built in Intel HD3000 graphics. I still have my original harcdopy of sins and I did a short test run; it seems to be very smooth and responsive even at high settings (this is of course with minal map and ship activity). I know Rebellion upped the grap

Okay, clarification number two. I realize starbases and plats don't ACTUALLY come after you, the point I was making was that, once you are in range of them, they attack you and keep attacking you till one of you is dead. Mines just blow up and then they're gone. I've seen mines detonate and not actually damage any of my ships. Unless they are poorly placed, one will generally always want to eliminate all defenses in a grav well that can directly attack you (plat

I know that you guys love this game, probably more than I do, but...well... Don't you think that's a little dumb? That instead of a proper countermeasure in one form or another, the only effective way "around" a minefield that's got the edge of the gravity well covered is through it...and you have to sacrifice valuable ships to do it? A Starbase is a Starbase, you take it out or it beats on you. You blow it up and that's all there is to it. But mines...alternative/indirect def

Okay, cool, so worst case scenario, whatever changes I make won't take effect until I start a new game... I just don't want the game to look for the pirate corsair's 28 armor and find an 18 and it's head explodes (*does not compute, does not compute* MINIDUMP!!! sort of thing)

Just to come back to this real quick, a properly upgraded starbase intelligently placed in the gravity well has excellent coverage. At least that's my experience with the Advent. Problem solved itself.

If I have a saved game I'm in the middle of, and I feel like maybe oh say pirate corsairs have too much armor, or my illuminators are doing a bit too much damage, can I change the stats in the game files and have those changes show up in the save game once I reload it? Will that crash the game? Or do I simply have to start a new game. Okay, that wasn't really just one question, nor was it quick. But I'm betting the answer from you all-knowers out there will be ;) Thanks in advance.

Actually, clearing the fields themselves isn't really my issue. I usually play Advent and their Illuminators and masses of strike craft do the job very nicely. The problem is when my enemy places the fields right at the edges of gravity wells, right where my ships are going to come in. How do I get around this? Can I send in a few ships that will trigger most of the mines? Is there a way to (temporarily) neutralize the mines as soon as my fleet comes out of phase space?

Okay, so if I don't change say, the visari repair platform, that files doesn't need to be in the mod folder at all; the game will use the whatever the most recent version is, whereever it is, while I'm running the mod. If I want to change the Advent Beam Plat, I mod the file and put that file in the mod folder. This will take precedence over any other version of the file. I think I got it...this can't really be this hard to grasp lol. Thanks a lot harpo. You knowz yo shit.

OkayI think I followed most of that. So you're saying if I want to play a modded diplomacy, but change the stats of say, the Advent's Beam D Plat, I need to look for the file in theEntrenchment 1.051, and then the Sins 1.191 reference folder, wherever it appears first. But how do I get the game info files from all 3 reference folders into one mod that can be played through diplomacy? Do I put multiple game info folders into the same mod folder? Or do I copy all the orig

Why thank you gentleman. But it has to be said...Restless...how the hell do you know what an orbital cannon would or wouldn't do, you put one together recently? lol i kill myself [e digicons][/e] But seriously thanks guys.

So I forgot that even with entrenchtment, defenses are a joke in the early to mid stages of the game. I was playing a skirmish agaisnt some comps and a small band of pirates, maybe 15 or 20 ships, tore through 4 beam plats and a hanger (2 bomber squads, 1 fighter) supported by two repair platforms in a couple of minutes. And I had a few upgrades. And during the attack I put up two more beam plats. Didn't matter. I had to keep pulling my fleet off the frontlines to come save my planets from st

True. I know they still want you to use at least some ships to back up your D, which I think is very cool. Heh heh. Soft choke. I suppose if you could manage to get up the cash you could stick two fairly upgraded starbases in say your home system and really bring th pain.
the advent starbase, for example, is able to host more squadrons than the other starbases
Stuff like this makes me feel less wary of the overall lack of range on starbase weapons. This suggests that if you chose your upgrades carefully, a starbase that you thought you positioned really well but is getting flown around can come back and draw the attention it's suppposed to. If you have a ton of strike craft coming out of an advent starbase, especi

Have they been increased? I remeber it was actually rather easy to manuver around even a well-placed starbase when I first played entrenchment. Do they cover the gravity well better now?

Well, slow down is not so bad. I mean like, if all the warfare goes into a sort of slow mo, that's okay versus stuttering or chugging. That really just kills the cinematic experience that sins can really deliver on. As for the empire tree, I remember when I used to play I would have it on most of the time, but then hit some combination of keys (I forget what it was) when I wanted to just watch a big battle for a couple of minutes (even if it meant my fleet suffered from

Yeah my rig has windows 7 home premium 64bit.So what you guys are telling me is that i need the mother of all single core processors which aren't common anymore...or I will always have stutter in big battles? Thaat's unbelieveably deprreessing

But I think you CAN manually select a construction frigate from a nearby colony (say that has two), and have it warp over to the colony before you're finished taking the planet, then have it help. You can do this I think, yes?

Well, this might not exactly be a technical support question...persay...but here it goes. I want to see so many frikin ships on my screen that I can't see anything but ships on my screen. And then, to have that happening in 8 different solar systems at once. I want to see Sins in all of it's massively massive glory, as hugely titanic as the battles can get, and I want it all to be smooth, and at absolute maximum graphical detail. What follows is my rig. Can I, without a

So I've been very sadly away from Sins for far too long. My computer wasn't really good enough to handle this game to begin with, and when entrenchment came out, well that was that. Then my life went all crazy and I got married and had a kid lol. Suprisingly, this actually regimented my time and I've found that I have enough to give some to one of my favorite games of all time. Having just bought one bad-ass alienware computer (Overclocked Pentium i7 920 3.2Ghz, 6GB Tripple Ch
