I've been wondering about this topic myself. The developers should really throw together a demo as soon as possible or people will consider the torrent-download as the demo...
Well, best of luck to them.
I am having trouble debating on whether I should buy Sins of a Solar Empire or not. It seems good, but I just want to know what other's opinion on the game is.
Nah, don't buy it.............

t
Point taken, Sir. Excuse my perpetuating the question, but my (admittedly somewhat weak - at the minimum specs level of SoaSE) desktop had much difficulty running SupCom at fully zoomed out levels with a total of about 500-600 units, and a little bit of trouble, though I didn't experiment too much, with a try-out of a low-level Warlords mod on HW2. Clearly it was the CPU that was having difficulty, since the GPU didn't have to render much more than
Sir Heflys, Please enlighten me; did Eviljedi form ships with turrets that had to wait to line up before firing, or was the effect purely cosmetic?
Sir Sibilantae, If he was using the homeworld 2 engine, which has turrets that track targets, then it was the former. To make it more clear:
to put it in perspective, on a relatively new computer It isn't a
Sir Grave Keeper, Well at least give a option for the people with decent comps for rotating turrets. It can't be made an option at all, regardless of whether the decent comp people want it or not. The only way to implement it would be all or nothing, and the all option isn't good for the lower end comps.
Huh? If I'm not mistaken, Eviljedi, who worked on the Warlords mod,

You guys have confused me so much I'd rather this topic just die.....slowly. Unless someone mods it in, it won't be in the game.
This game is an RTS, and there just isn't time in-game for this kind of thing.
It's been done before, it just wouldn't be acceptable in a game of this scale.
So you want to allow the current "shoot any direction" and just have the turrets bring themselves to bear as pure graphics? OK, that would be an option... but in my mind, would be worse than the current setup!
D'OH!!!! My brain!!!
Although what you fail to realize that the whole thread is one big joke, and you just made yourself look quite silly by posting all of that. There's not been a single serious post in this thread
LOL.
You tell me. In mine(and your opinion) I'm just a spectator
It's not my purpose to reveal who failed, since I'm not the one who brought the issue to bear, but it appears you believe I did. Never mind that I admitted my naivety on the subject several times. If you want my opinion, some
Go re-read my posts. You have to calculate the turret at all times, even if you aren't zoomed in.
I have question, not to be obnoxious, but why does a game like Supreme Commander, with its multitude of turrets (not to mention tracking of projectiles), run better when zoomed out, as opposed to vice versa? As other graphical effects negated? This is a legitimate question.

Ron its like talking to a wall. They will never accept the fact that something so major and completely important to their own existance is absent from a game they will never understand. You gathered all that from this discussion, and you're questioning the importance of my "existence"? Amusing....
OK, As a result, all computers would have to do that calculation -- if one computer did it, and the other didn't, yo
All references to any system dragging was because the reason you were asking for an option was based on the idea that people who couldn't run it could turn it off.
Not sure what you mean, since weapons still have to target and fire, whether or not the turret is animated. Nor am I sure why it is a detriment to graphical prowess, even though the game is still calculating targeting, when the turret isn't animated, particularly when the turret is no longer animated, and the b
heh! just ask EvilleJedi. He had to redo a lot of stuff for his HW2 Star Wars mod because the game would slow down to a crawl even on the best machines available at the time. The engine would go down to its knees. There were lots of weapons and a cool (and complex) shielding system. Most of it had to go down the toilet in the name of performance.
That's because he redesigned the ships, added new textures, ships had double the poly

I don't recall my version of HW 2 coughing or sputtering when I had numerous ships in combat. Some people's PC's can actually cope with such detail, hence the request that it be turned into an option. And if the game did lag, I can be certain that turret animations wouldn't have been the cause. HW also took place at a zoomed distance predominately, hence the option to zoom out. Yarlen states the only reason turret movement isn't in the game is because it would've taken too much time to implement

Well, they might be in the game actually, particularly since the developers have been hiding things about the latest graphical improvements. Who knows....
It's not neglible to recalculate velocity/vectors per turret per ship constantly and render constant movement per turret per ship (if zoomed in enough) when you can have a couple thousand ships at maximum. Sure, it's unlikely to push the current top-end hardware to the limit, but you forget they want this game to remain very playable on low end hardware also.
I also thought it was supposed to run on top of the line systems, a
