Even if they aren't displayed, the positions and vectors of every model and particle have to be computed anyway, AFAIK. It's just the rendering (GPU) part that the zoom saves.
I understand, but even you admit that ships far away aren't as demanding on system hardware as those up close.
If your goal is to zoom out, then why care if the turrets rotate?
They convert to small blips even when up close. And you're telling me that ships 300,000 miles away are being represented in the same detail as ones in the current system?
And hey, cut us people who haven't played but love to theorize some slack
LOL. I'm just saying, who wants to pay to travel. I can forsee the headaches that would cause: Entire fleets unable to move because the empire doesn't have enough funds. I haven't really touched the game that much either (played somewhe
Thank you Frogman!!!! All these, "it should be like this, even though I haven't played the game!!", statements are seriously starting to grate on what little sanity I have left. Who wants to pay for units to travel? "Whoops, you can't send reinforcements to intercept that invading fleet cause you don't have enough resources!!" Am I running an empire, or the local starport?
Besides, if turrets were to become a detriment on the games graphical prowess, perhaps there could be a way to turn it off in the graphical settings. But, anyway, none of this is really a big issue, or worth arguing over.
Damn, why didn't I see this topic before I posted it a second time.
That would make sense if the units didn't convert to small blips when zoomed out, which, as mentioned by the developers, is meant to prevent the game from turning into a slide show and also assist in unit accountability. The same as it was in Supreme Commander. Also, I doubt rotating turrets is really going to turn this game into a slide show.
rotating turrets would just take a lot of resources and dont really add much to the game.
Though not a big issue, even the first Homeworld had rotating turrets.
I realize all of that now, hence my insane comment.
Uh, I mean preview!! Damn! Fixed.

Too bad the smaller vessels don't acquire experience.
hahahahahaha quote of the year: "Perhaps the only worrying thing about the game is just how much the devs listen to their testers. When we make suggestions, guys, we expect to be told that you tried that three years ago and it sucked. Not "Hey, good idea. We'll try that tomorrow." genius! PS: this is not PC Gamer it is PC Zone - you should correct / edit the title since there is huge difference between the 2 mags
Don't you mean what company "doesn't" listen to customers? Nice sarcasm switch.
the battles would be decided with rolls of the di i guess, and based on things like moral and advanced training through research and weapons and armour and such for troops, adding more research capabilities. but really mainly besides all this again, is the fact that the ships dont move, and that I feel too boxed in when playing this, kind of like space empires.
Vivid imagination though.......I particularly like the "ships don't mo
So many complaints......And he hasn't even played it.
From what I've heard, Haegemonia had interface issues, poor combat (small fleets didn't help), forgettable story, and weird concepts (like no tutorial). Graphics, uniqueness of the game design, and strategic options are what made it interesting. And, yes, I believe this game will completely surpass Haege.
I'll let Ironclad field this one, except to say that the AI in the release build does use culture. The Advent player was attacking me with it last night...though his fleet is what actually got the job done...
I thought Tom was playing the release build?
Sounds, slightly awkward, the bad a.i. in particular sounds disappointing. Hopefully, hard a.i. does better. :NOTSURE:
I can see the ship, but don't know what it is. (:(
You missed the fact that they already said some ships move in the final version.
Funny, it was at the top when I replied. So....And now it is again. Whoopsy! :SURPRISED:
You know, this topic was dead before you decided to bump it.
though it would probally be fun too see 14 Vs 8 frigates circling around each other in confusion, as a battle tactic to force earlier retreatment or to hinder retreatment at all, and maybe even as a tool/order to be able to hit the enemy player battle-moral this way.
Uh.....Say what
