So kyro says late afternoon, so i'm guessing around 4:00 pm SD opens at 10:00 pm, 3:00 GMT (what i was told) SD's time zone is -5:00 GMT So expect the download to begin at 9:00 GMT?
Here's a radical suggestion: 1) Wait until you've played the released game. 2) If the limit is felt to be too low, users can easily change it themselves to be whatever they want. 3) If the limit is felt to be too low, users can make that case and we can increase it in a subsequent free updates. I just don't see the problem here. This beta 4 talk really gets frustrating because the resources were so completely differ

You need to download the final version and do a fresh install. It's about 1 gig. So while you wait for the dl, you play the bata. And unless it installs to the same folder, i assume you can leave the beta installed. (even then you can change the location of the final version)

I propose we all just wait for the games release. Then we can see how the new system works with the solid unit cap. If it works badly, we all grab our pitchforks and torches and politely hand IC/SD a petition to add X feature to resolve this. If this fails, we carpool to their building with said pitchforks and torches.

I think it has to do with immersion. Zooming in on your precious planet, to build it up and defend it gets you more involved. You see the object of your efforts rather then a icon if you simply controlled solar systems instead. Thinking about just controlling solar systems and viewing planets from afar is making me board already. Even if you could zoom in on a planet there would be little reason to as the interaction features would have to be gutted if they wished to keep the
First armada had NO z axis, not "barely at all". Star Trek Armada II had Z axis... PITA to use, and really, really annoying. Unlike HW, it wasn't required to use it however.
Ah, i've only played armada 1, i did not realized they put Z axis in the second one.

In the Q&A the devs stated that a human player can relaim his spot after he has been replaced by a AI. But this need to be done from a save (restart the game), it can not be done while in-game.
The Z-Axis is implemented the same way it was in StarTrek Armada. Barely at all and completely irrelevant. It's nothing like Homeworld, which was brilliant in it's 3D Movement.
First armada had NO z axis, not "barely at all". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ9yWrFzk9w Above youtube video give the best example of Z axis movement i am aware of. Cap ships are the primary units to suffer from the limited z axis

@Multi i believe you are making a mistake assuming EVERY ship will be in one system. In X3, you could build yourself a vast fleet, but if you ever went to the same system with them you might as well press the power button on your PC. X3's engine does not render visuals of ships when you are out of system (on a different map basically, but you could still track and order those ships in real time) so you could have a crap load of them, but when it had to render ships your PC cou
What about the game manual? Will the downloaded version have the game manual? If not can this be purchased along with the box?
Yes.

The rough answer was in the Q&A tonight. I recall reading "late Monday evening GMT", i REALLY hope he said morning and not evening. X-( I believe they are based in the USA to the east. Do not quote me on any of this, wait until the Q&A is cleaned up and released. The only reason i can see them delaying the digital download release is if the extra hired server guys (mentioned in Q&A they are putting the download on a external server or som

As long as the unit cap is high enough to have the proper number of ships for the huge maps and the unit cap isn't set at the lowest common denominator of gaming rigs. What i don't want to see on the biggest maps is a never ending war with fleets so far apart that you losing planets as fast as you conquer them. You would need a minimum size fleet to defeat planet defenses and this would limit the number of fleets. It would be silly to have to mod the unit cap (and no automatic
Download-only orders also get downloads of the soundtrack and PDFs of the printed CE goodies.
Why didn't you or someone else just say so? NO WHERE is this information stated, other then in kryo's post. So this statement still stands.
But take this scenario: Potential customer goes to store and sees the game for $39.99.
In sins you can see all ships in a gravity well so long as you've got one there yourself (no local FoW), so those sorts of tactics aren't so useful.
Yea, that right there killed any argument i had for full z axis movement. It would favor the attacker way to much, as the defender would have to have a even sphere of defenses, the attacker would have a instant view of all these defenses and could pick the weakest point

Hmmm, i was under the impression that the retail version will be around $39.99, digital download $45.95 and CE $49.95. https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store.aspx http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10099000&catid=11130 (above is a canadian store and canadian dollars) Also under the impression that digital download was only a download, and nothing more. Only with the CE would you actually get anything extra. A

Supreme Commander has more units. Go on youtube.com and search "sins of a solar empire interview" or swap interview for gameplay. To sum it up, you concern was a major one for the game developers and they have taken steps to reduce micro management (you don't have to baby sit your fleet like in the Homeworld series) so that you are not overwhelmed.

@Frogboy The fact is that you are charging $5 more for less. I can understand the reasons why you charge $5 extra (to make publishers more happy, since you are having major problems with europe which i assume is a major market), and i am not bitter or anything. But take this scenario: Potential customer goes to store and sees the game for $39.99. He/she then goes back home to look up reviews (which is what i always do) and finds the game can be downloaded with no hassle with a
