Refineries- These gather resources from nearby systems' asteroids according to the manual. what if I already own those systems and have extractors on them? are refineries still useful? what do they do, exactly? How many systems does each one cover?
Their reach is 1 system radius. You need to have mines built for it to work. They increase production. A mine can only make use of 3, so place them wisely. They work mainly on metal, but they have a small impact on crystal as w
Trade hubs- I know these give me more money, but how? how do i know how much im getting? Is it worth building a hub at every world?
They generate credits, the longer the link of systems that have trade hubs the more money it makes. Sectors without any body to colonize don't count, but the pirate base does and you can't build civilian structures from it >:( . You can see the chain of systems by putting your mouse over the credits counter on the top right corner of the scre

Oh, and you might find the small/medium random maps give you more room over the pre-made ones. Having the AI 2/3 jumps away is bad for turtling. -edit- Oh, and the above post is more for medium maps.

I like to turtle against the AI myself. 1- Pump out 4 scouts and set to auto explore to find the choke points i'll need to grab fast. 2- Build a assault capital and send to nearest most defended (by militia) planet 3- Build 3/4 assault frigates to clear out asteroid fields 4- Build 2 research stations to research fire/ice planets 5- Build 1 or 2 colonizing ships (depending on how fast i'll need em) 6- See if anything needs to be researched right away 7- Have a

Reply to Homeworld 2 in Games

I would start off with HW, followed by HW:Cataclysm, then HW2.

Get "Zero Punctuation" to do a review! I don't know how he goes about picking games to review though, and he'll probably tell you to go bugger off. It won't be pretty but it'll get the word out if he does a review on it. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2808-Zero-Punctuation-Crysis (above link is Zero Punctuation's review of crysis, NSFW)

Funny, against the AI i find i can just ignore the "clouds" of bombers/fighters with few losses. Just have some flack frigates, and the flack burst from kol battle ships puts a real dent into their numbers. It also appears that capitals(not counting special abilities)/heavy cruisers have limited anti fighter ability, or am i wrong?

I had brought up this question before the games release, but got over it fairly quickly after a round. I would still like to have other options though. Perhaps add a "blockade" research that allows siege frigates to lay siege to a planet without firing a shot. Have a countdown timer (more siege frigs the faster it counts down) that starts when all military units are removed from the gravity well, and the timer is stopped/reset/slowed if a large enough enemy force enters the gravity wel

Unlocked teams, hard to attack AND defend, probably had a dozen or more planets left scattered about before he officially lost the game, ability to start all over again. Yep, sounds possible.

Something other then a count down timer on pirates. It's just to.... simple. Now i don't want some complex system, just not a fixed timer. Oh, and maybe the option to bribe pirates with ships? While not really useful, it would be fun to tip someone off on who bribed the pirates when they see vasari assault frigates, that and the idea the pirates having a capital (which if survives would level up), or a support fleet.

You also can't move construction ships from planet to planet. Each planet spawns a worker, and you get more by upgrading the infrastructure (logistic or tactical). -edit- or was it the population one? -edit-

Sins is only ~1.5 gigs, and 2 gig flash drives are very common these days. Will sins work properly if installed on a flash drive inserted into any computer that can run it? And if it would work, are the current data transfer speeds of the higher end flash cards high enough to run at least a small map with little trouble?

I know next to nothing about routers, but i discovered in the advance settings/applications a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) setting which allowed me to turn off all firewall protection for my modem/router. I have a firewall program installed on my computer so i do not see the need for this on my modem. Anyway, enabled DMZ and problem solved, and allowed me to host games with my friend who is behind a router firewall and is unable to get past it.

The problem seems to be that no retailers are expecting this game to sell very well so every store ordered only 1 to 3 copies. EB games seems to be bad for this. -edit- OH, and it cost me about $70 Canadian to buy the CE box from SD. -edit-

FIXED! Finally dug up the user name and pw, looked around and found the DMZ (demilitarized zone) setting that disabled the firewall protection on the modem. I assume this is not required as i have a antivirus/firewall program and i don't mind formatting if i'm wrong. Since i never saw this mentioned anywhere, is there any major issues with doing this?

I started a medium random map (1 star) on single player (locked teams), normal difficulty. After a long hard battle against one AI (up until the end, i was always outmatched in fleet engagements) i finally wiped him out and had total control of half the map with only 2 ways in. After making a emergency fleet to prepare for a awe inspiring assault by one of the AIs (he had 5 caps and a fleet to match it, the fleet strength indicator was almost maxed out, one system away) which neve

I believe the preview thing is the problem. I never knew you could actually do anything on a preview map. There is no fog of war and the AI just sits there. Perhaps if you start building the AI becomes active. Your best bet is to save the map (not the round you just played) and load it and play a normal game.
