Hey karma I dont remember seeing you online. How many games have you played in mp?
I dunno, maybe 100. I don't play under the Agent of Kharma name. Also, I don't play near as much as I would like because it is damn near impossible to get a decent game online unless you either have tons of friends who all play together regularly, or you are involved in a clan or something.

Well, thanks! I learned something! The next question I would ask is "If fighters trump bombers so much that bombers can't really be deployed in most situations, then you are left with a fleet of carriers + fighters which are weak against most units in the game. In that case, why not just forgoe carriers altogether (since they would most likely have to field fighters) and instead move to something like enforcers/kodiacs/etc?" In trying to think logically, the predic

This is happening every time I play a game, tested over a several day period. I queue orders on my capship, and sometimes (not all the time), the queued orders go unfulfilled. Example: Click on vasari space whale, tell it "kill this siege frig, colonize the planet. then jump out to this other planet." Will look back later and see the space whale just sitting there. It killed the unit but didn't do anything else. In my current game (it's running paused in
Most everyone I play with agrees the egg is op at killing cap ships.
Most everyone agrees to lots of things that are wrong. Most people just have a herd mentality and believe what everyone else believes. The zeitgeist changes, and everyone changes their opinions along with it, without really thinking about or examining the issues for them
As pauldarkside pointed out and may of us have experienced firsthand, building a starbase to defend against attacks from phase lane 1 and then colonizing up phase lane 1 and wishing the base were covering phase lane 2 is an all-too-common and very frustrating experience.
It seems that what you are really arguing for is a better phase jump inhibitor, not a moving sb. With an improved pji, it doesn't matter which phase lane

Some say the advent mothership is the best - it is certainly a better colonizer. Some say the TEC Dreadnaught is the best. I play vasari, but for an opening colonizer ship, I'd much rather have the advent mothershi

Okay, watched the game you posted with the big starbase brawls, superweapons, etc. Let me ask a question that is no doubt stupid. Why the massive overuse of fighters by everyone? Why not bombers? I suppose you might say that if you used bombers and your opponent countered with fighters, your bombers would be raped? But if so, doesn't it take a while, and can't you do a lot of damage to his fleet before that happens? I'm not qualified to question your ga

I took out a fully upgraded Advent SB in seconds, chiefly with bombers. Now, I did have 5 torp cruisers as well, and it's possible that they did most of the damage. But I don't know. We won't know whether SBs are t

For one thing, it doesn't make sense, is unrealistic, and adds unnecessary complexity to the code just for complexity's sake. For another thing, THEY CAN'T HARM YOUR SHIPS ANYWAY.

I researched the homing mines and built some drone hosts and tried to use the mines. I don't get it. I see a button to build the mines. The mines seem to build and pop out, but when I use the button to place the mines, they don't go anywhere, they just stay with the drone host. If I move the drone host around they just follow the host. If I jump the drone host into another grav well the mines dock, they don't stay in the well. I know someone will say "are

They can fire at anything, but I don't think they will do too much damage to anything but structures. At least that's the way the advent starfish works. I took a fleet of starfishes and tried to attack weak frigates (disciples and scouts), and while the pyrotechnics were quite impressive, they couldn't kill anything. They could wreck structures, of course. I'm guessing the same is true for the TEC torp cruiser - can anyone confirm? My guess is you saw nice big fi

I leveled a fully upgraded Advent starbase (close to 20,000 hit points) with 5 of them - it took way less than 2 minutes, but I also had a fair sized fleet of bombers attacking too. I like the huge explosions those things make. BOOM!

Zeratul, watch out. These are some of the best players in the game, and all they are doing is playing around with the new units and seeing what kind of tactics they can come up with. The sky is the limit. If they can come up with something, they have an edge when the game comes out (well, even more of an edge than they already have). These are the guys that will discover whether some tactic is OP, they will ferret out and discover any imbalances, and then use those imb

This story reminds me of when I played the number one ranked player in Universe at War: Earth Assault. I actually way outbuilt him with units, and was higher teched than him. I sent all my units into his base. He was playing Masari, and he blew up one of his matter engines. He got every single unit I sent in. I sent another wave, he blew another matter engine, I lost everything else. After that it was about time to say "gg - thanks for kicking my ass" and t

From the get go I didn't believe the guy's story. After my own testing I knew that mines had a delay before they got built. I said to myself "either the guy is purposefully lying coz he's pissed that he just lost, or he's accidentally lying because he didn't use a scout and didn't realize that other previously laid mines were actually in the area." Then I read the comment from John James. Yeah, my instincts were totally right. I wonder how often games are ruine

I only played for one night so far, but I like the mine changes for the vasari (haven't tried advent or TEC yet). Actually, I find the vasari minelaying LESS micro and chaotic than it used to be. You tell it where to stick a mine field, it sticks a minefield there. Like one guy said, if you want to blow a ton of money at once, you just hold down shift and say "put minefield here, and here, and here, and here" and it will do it. Other than an auto-minelaying mode, doesn

There is potential! The starbases can be upgraded to a crazy amount of hitpoints (roughly 15,000 off the top of my head, although you must understand they start out weak - around 3000). And there are mines. So all the potential is there. On the flip-side, I played the latest entrenchment version against the AI last night, and I was blowing fully-upgraded starbases to smithereens with a mid-game fleet. TEC and Advent both get long range anti-structure cruisers

There was a guy who said that the game was severely unbalanced because it was impossible for him to stop a vasari rush with him playing advent. Hey, I understand having trouble beating someone, or beating a particular tactic - I have a running post myself where I've asked pros to contribute ideas to help me beat one particular person. But in my opinion, unless its just something obvious and ridiculous, only a CONSENSUS OF PROS can really say if a game is unbalanced or not. <p

Actually, that's sort of what I've been doing! I've always been able to beat an unfair, even without defenses. Now I'm trying to work on my expansion speed. I've definately up'ed it a few notches. Keep up the suggestions!
