Tracking guns weren't implemented for the same reason. Sins was designed to be playable on old systems, and playable well. Tracking guns also tack on processing power, without adding any real "value" to the game.
I really don't understand that, even Homeworld, a game released nearly 10 years ago had those. In large battles i usually have to zoom to the icon level anyway, so i don't see how that should cause performance

I make it a point to protect any capital ships on or above level 6, lower than that can be easily replaced. The only reason to have any capital ships are their abilities, otherwise a group of frigates can do the same thing, so maybe they should have a little more muscle.
A campaign and perhaps a campign editor might be in the surprise expansion (that's the third...). But none of the developers gave a clear yes or no on anything... But there is still hope...
That's exactly my hope too. Perhaps a meta-map campaign like in the Dawn of War games would work? Conquer the galaxy with one race, with plenty of special missions among the standard skirmish ones with extra hard missions on the races homeworlds and other important systems.<
Well, SP could have some gameplay bonuses for achievements. For example, there's a set of achievements for giving stuff to other players. Completing all of them can unlock "diplomat" status/title, which then gives you a 10%/20% longer mission duration in game. Completing the Go Big Or Go Home + other capitals related achievements can reduce the cost of capitals by 5%, or increase their hit points by 5%. Stuff like that. Every time you start a new
Entrenchment requires more processing power than original Sins, so as Annatar and burnout suggested, try playing with lower settings. Try playing with lowest possible settings, and see if it lasts longer than 10 minutes.
Didn't Microsoft recently register a patent for something like this? Will the computers start to devolve back to the way they used to be, as Zubaz mentioned? As an about to graduate professional, i find this deveploment very interesting.
I hope there is one, i'd like to test the Orkulus' anti starbase capability, but the game minidumps, when the starbase under construction comes under attack.
What sort of corruption are you getting? Also your system specs could be helpful.
Still doing your part to put people off going online I see, good job.
Between him and Dorian, i'm staying with my AI buddies too ;)
The only RTS game i've seen where units had ammo is World War 3 Black Gold (Available on Impulse BTW), there were helicopters that brought ammo for the tanks on the front. But Sins is about Epic Space Battles (Epic Carrier Spams on multiplayer, i hear), so i don't think that sort of extra micro would go too well for this game. BTW Homeworld had fuel, but evey ship above Frigate class had a rector, and didn't require refueling. (Of course the reactor requires something to run, but games don't
The upcoming diplomacy expansion should fix the rest of the shortcomings of this game (pirates and diplomacy, anything else is extra), and if the third one is a campaign, i'm one happy camper :D
Completely forgot that one, this game has sure advanced a lot since release.
Setting the pirates off in options stops the pirate raids, but their base still exists on the map. They just sit there and do nothing. Edit: Late again..
I'd love to see Pirates act like Pirates personally. Why the hell do Pirates send Seige ships? I wouldn't mind if they sent ships that drain economy from the planet or something but destroying the population? What the hell is wrong with these criminals, they are a collective of psychopaths? Why not see them crip
I think frequent meteorites is supposed to be visible before exploration, like gravity well sizes, weapons test facility, and some others.
Maybe in one of the micro-expansion we could get a new super-capital ship for each race? The capital ships are huge already, just zoom in to a fighter, and turn the camera towards the capital ships. The capital ships in Sins are a lot bigger than the ones in Homeworld 2, for example, but look smaller due to the scope of the game. I really wish there was a size variance in planets though. I'm pretty sure the universe doesn't have a standardized planet size [e digicons][/e]
How about an expensive lvl 8 research that adds one more upgrade slot to starbases? It would make them more powerfull without (hopefully) overpowering them. And how about an anti-structure abilty upgrade for the Vasari LRM? The beta crashes when a starbase under construction comes under attack, so Vasari have serious problems against upgraded starbases, and even without crashing, it takes forever to build and upgrade a starbase in enemy gravitywell.
Playstation has lost a lot of exclusives during PS3, Ace Combat was one of them too. One might argue that PS3 sales have not been big enough to convince publishers to keep making exclusives. Then again, Square-Enix recently bought Eidos, so it could be just another sign of SE trying to reach western game markets.
Radiance in dark blue. Kick's ass, and looks good doing it [e digicons][/e] Vulkoras has better looks, but Advent are my favourite race.
I'm not precisely sure about the scale of these ships (would Craig like to enlighten us?) but I don't believe you'd be able to see bodies flying out...they'd just be too small!
Well you can use strikecraft as reference point, if you imagine they are as big as modern fighters, you might be able to see something on maximum zoom, but i bet it would be difficult to even recognize it as a human, much less as an alien :D
You're right, this has been suggested before, ever since the beta for sins. I don't know if the IC guys have given any resons to not include this, but it doesn't seem likely for this idea to be implemented now.
I've always wondered why can't developers make a teen AND mature versions of a game. Content-wise it shouldn't raise the cost that much, and in IC's case, the mature version could be only available through Impulse. Of course, regulating who get's what version might be problematic. Around here in Finland, Manhunt 2 was banned (IIRC), but our The Witcher has boobs :)
IIRC, trade routes could go through stars in vanilla sins, but starbases do act as nodes in the trade network, so most propably yes.
With Advent, you can also gather intelligence with "Eyes of the Converted" using culture centers or cannons. Advent also have the lingering presence upgrade for scouts, that allow you to see the enemy gravity well for a while after the scout has been destroyed. And one of their capital ships also has the ability to reveal any enemy/neutral gravity well (the chilli pepper shaped one :p). There are many ways to gather intelligence, and knowledge is power.
Yes, there are engagemant range settings under fleet management: hold position (shoot only at enemies that are inrange), local area (will chase targets in a small radius), and gravity well (kill every enemy at the current gravity well). Check the setting you have, all ships should default to gravity well though. Also check if the attack command is on "autocast".
Sorry to bump an old topic, but Epic has now released a patch that deals with the problem. Download here
