They've emphasized "micro" expansion. they probably took the ideas of expansion 3 and 4 and turned it into a normal sized expansion, probably one sold on a disk at retail stores, including a campaign.

I dont think this is needed. Carrier spam is annoying as hell, but nerfing SC to nothingness isnt a good idea either. As for these small ships blowing up giant caps, think of any modern day attack aircraft or even WWII torpedo bombers. The Yamato was sunk fairly easily by torpdedos, and any modern day carrier/ship is easy picking for a harpoon. What keeps these aircraft at bay are fleet defenses like Aegis crusiers. We need a better AA type of cruiser, and AA o

Tojka & Goodgimp: I'm glad both of you can read... I said I'll give credit to Ironclad/stardock for delaying the game. However, the game was originally slated for release back then. A lot of companies would have released it like that and tried to patch it later. Also, it was a beta you paid for. Regardless of how you word it, Entrenchment was sold in beta form and unreturnable. I tried.

Most of the entrenchment upgrades arent apparent early game. You should notice the entirely new tech tree, but you wont see the actual ingame units till mid/late game. Once you get rolling, the new addins are definately fun, but its not going to be like adding Brood Wars to starcraft or Opposing Fronts to Company of Heroes.

The reason I see pirating existing is a lot of games just completely suck ass, and they cost $50+. Hell, look at Sins when it first released. It was $40, I got it release day at Gamestop and it was mostly a mess. It didnt have a campaign, the online was unstable, and the AI was crap. It was a fun game, I'll give it that, but for $40 I felt ripped off. Look at entrenchment... On release day (Original release, in November), the beta was a complete mess too.&n

Interceptors would be nice, and I think its a good idea. SC are lacking in roles now, and they are oversimplified. Another addition I'd like to see would be Strikecraft stances. Fighters: CAP - Your fighters prioritize bombers, but stay close to the fleet/building. Useful for keeping a fleet safe while passing through a system. Escort - Fighters stay near bombers, prioritizing other fighters. This allows your fighters to

I have to admit I feel pretty disapointed too. Pretty much everything entrenchment is disapointing. First, we have a ton of balance issues with mines/SBs. Most of the existing balance issues are still there too, so it doesnt really seem improved at all. Actually, I think Entrenchment was a step backward, because I play without starbases and win easier now. Second, Entrenchment was supposed to be released before the beta. Saying this, the beta is in pret

I'd rather see boarding ships that invade planets. This way, a planet could be captured intact, with all the upgrades etc still useful. You could also give a faction specific bonus because of the slaves you capture too. Right now, nuking a planet to dust 4-5 times in a game makes it seem really silly, and each time you have to start over with upgrades. Using landing craft would cost more, but give you a cheaper planet.

Shadow: Thats basically exploiting crappy AI. A human wont let you do that. I'd also like to see something like this. Since Sins seems to be able large spammy fleets, it would be nice to prioritze things without the hassle of clicking each individual ship. Another thing i'd like to see is ship specific stances. Something like an aggressive stance where ships charge the enemy fleet, and a defensive stance where ships match the speed of the slowest ship a

I'd like a stance button for fighters. Something like Defend, where they circle the fleet/cap and prioritze bombers/LRF. Escort, where they circle your bombers and prioritze fighters/flak, and attack, where they prioritize light/LRF frigs. I'm sure a button could be added that quickly changes those priorities.

I dont mind the TEC SB. It looks very... TECish. It could use a little more life (Maybe some drones flying around outside doing maintence/etc), but most of the game needs a little more of that. The Vasari one is fugly. It needs a reworking. The Advent one is ok, but again its mostly lifeless. I know the scale is very different, but I wish Sins had more life like Company of Heroes. That game just looks amazing with the detail. Its not tha

The bonus I found with the flak(Other antistrike) is you can use less fighters. This free's up more bombers to kill their ships. The flak isnt terribly expensive, and since I want them to get in range of my gauss, I put my hangers near them anyway.

What if constructors were more like the planet ones, in that a SB was built, rather then grown from a constructor seed. This way, offensive SBs would have a really easy counter (Kill the builder). This is usually the weakness of turret rushing in most games. Having a fleet could prevent this, but even then a few bombers could probably still focus on the builder and kill it. As a bonus, the builder could also be used to capture mines (Instead of scout/colony) and even

Spyder: I like the orbitting idea too, but I couldnt think of a way to make it not look retarded since no other station orbitted. I'd hate to see the SB pass through research stations and such, and I dont know if its possible to make all stations to orbit.

I think the star bases need some ways to reach out and touch someone in a grav well. If you are going to blockade run a SB system, you should suffer some for it. I'd give each Starbase a special ability that allows it to make a fleet think twice before running past it. For Vasari, give them an upgrade that allows a SB to phase jump a short distance (Like the maurader does). It will cover 1/4-1/2 of the grav well, and have a 3-4 min cool down. This way, a vas

I like the shield idea too. It would definately give you time to counter a small fleet, and keep star bases more of a defensive threat then anything else.

47 Replies 12,343 Views

Maybe the other races can be given an upgrade that allows movement, at the cost of tactical slots. The vasari one would move by default, and with upgrades be made to move faster. Also, if possible maybe starbases can be given AM, and that AM is used to move. When the base is out of AM it cant move.

I think they need to add a new ability (Actually 2) to counter mines. First, I'd add an ability to celio cruisers (and other races equals) that makes mines self destruct. Make it an autocast ability. You would use Celios to escort your fleet and keep viewed mines from messing them up. Since Celios dont detect mines, they would be useless without scouts. I'd also add a new strikecraft ability/new strikecraft type to capships. These would b

They should add 1-2 really long range upgrades to starbases, and allow more strikecraft. A basic starbase should have 2, and a maxed one should be like a carrier. This will give a starbase a good long range punch (Enough to keep harrassment fleets away from the planet). As for mines, what about a bomber(Or fighter) upgrade that allows them to spot and destroy them? I'd make it a toggle button where (After research) bombers can see mines at Scout ranges, an

Silly question, but are we allowed to talk about the beta here? Is there some agreement you have to accept when you install it that you wont go on the forums and post about advent starbases, Vasari defense trees or the power of Marza? Just curious, I dont want to get banned because I didnt read something.

Goafan: 1 thing you forgot is the BB's big guns would blast most PT/Destroyers out of the water at ranges the destroyers couldnt engage back. The point of the screen of escorts was to make the enemy small ships take fire from the BBs at long range, and then be finished off by the smaller ships before they get in range to even hurt the BB. In SINS, this doesnt work because the BBs shoot the same range as the PTs. This is also why Carriers are so good, and most conside

Thanks for the info. I'll probably order it then. I'm not normally a big fan of download only, but at 10$ atleast I feel like they are doing it fairly. 50$ on a download only game sucks.

6 Replies 15,349 Views

So I've read up some on Entrenchment and so far it looks exactly like what is missing from Sins. However, it seems this is downloadable only. Are there any plans to release this in a box? If so, whats the cost? Also, with each of these expansions, does that mean I cut my player base down to only the entrenchment people?
