RA continues to give you ships, you just can't build more gates. It's great if you're holed up and you have no room to expand. Just replace civs with miltary and start getting a bunch of subverters.

People were complaining Advent sucked pre 1.04 because 1 - they had lousy late game tech (compared to RA and Novalith - if you ignore the price tag on the thing...) 2 - they couldn't very easily stop early rushes. If they get lrm spammed, they need to "counter" with defense vessels. However, the lrms would be able to bring down their cap and a lot of their infrastructure. Futhermore, it wasn't difficult to retreat the lrms because the defense vessels dealt low single target damag

These are crazy nice! The asian woman looks like Yukie Nakama http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Nakama_Yukie The black guy also looks like Dave Chapelle lol I wonder if using these portraits instead of the originals can cause any sync problems Edit: I didn't read the second page that she actually WAS based on Yukie Nakama. Oh well, I still feel smartz
Mmm... getting warmer... the units were fully 3D, the terrain was "quasi-3D". It's a flat texture put in place to represent a real heightmap... and the heightmap is real 3D, ie, units rock as they go over bumps, shots get blocked, etc.
We're both right. Height maps are basically just an extension of collision zones/masks. It's just a cheat to give the appearance of 3D. However, they incorporated the height map into their physics equation so that for all

you guys have it backwards. It was 2D terrain with 3D units. That's why you can't pan the camera. The purpose of this was specifically to allow units to run and gun. Chris Taylor said this in an interview at one point (back in the Cavedog days). Another advantage to the polygonal units was that they were faster to create. Thus, this allowed Cavedog to put out a new unit every week (was I the only one downloading them?)
Yes but most games don't have an enormous fan base raving about how innovative they think their game is, when it is plainly not the case.
I don't believe we were arguing that SC was extremely innovative. I've said this many times, but perhaps not here - innovation is not required for a good game. A good game is all about execution

@Haeso Long rant, but I totally agree. From what I've seen, modding SAVED WC3. Most ppl I know (granted, it's just a small subset of the WC3 population) bought WC3 JUST to play DOTA. They never touched campaign and played only a handful of melee games before never going back to them again. WC3 editor is amazing.

Again, way to go selectively choosing things you think you have an argument for. Try combining all the points I listed. Oh wait, you probably can't. Seriously, you have your head so far up your ass, you're licking your tonsils. Furthermore, I will say that Halo IS a good game. I hate it. I hate those instant-gratification-frat-boy games. None-the-less, it's very polished, has a lot of modes, and is a great user experience for those who enjoy console fps. <br/

@Uranium - 235
Memento didn't make as much money as Spiderman 3, so I guess Spiderman 3 is the better movie. Popularity does not, has not, and never will equate quality. Popularity is a TREND, and Starcraft's success in Korea is exactly that. Everyone has different tastes, so why would one rather small country with a relatively small population have such a high percentage obsessed with a mediocre game made 10 years ago? Why would Koreans like a game more than Azerbaijani
Well, I think you're being WAY too harsh, Louis, calm down man. You don't need to go and flame them. However as to the point of him using other peoples work, half of those pictures are from TV shows or games, and those are public things. He has every right to use them. I don't see people crying about a star trek mod using Deep Space 9, why cry about using it as a misc space station? Personally, I would love to see this kind of feature added, I've allways wanted to make "cities" in space.[
I disagree. There is nothing 'mindless' in Starcarft. It's fast and micromanagement-heavy, but it is not mindless in any shape or form. In fact, you can fortify your base in Starcraft to counter many rushers just as well, you just need to do that MUCH faster. That's the whole problem - it's way too fast for us 4Xers. That's all. Sins is finally a sort of RTS we can master and enjoy, as it moves at our pace and incorporates our style of gameplay, only more fluent and stre

I don't like WOW at all. I find it a boring game. However, from a design point of view, it's a great game. It's well designed, well balanced (when considering the scale), and there's lots to do for everyone. It's just not my kind of game. I'm sorry to say that I have read very few objective and intelligent posts that criticize SC or WOW. Almost every post on this thread that's against SC can basically be summed up as "SC/WOW sucks because I hate it! That's why it sucks!"

A lot of very bitter people here. I sense a lot of people actually resent SC because it completely overshadowed their personal favourite RTS games. Seriously, if SC isn't your cup of tea, that's fine. However, to say it has little strategy is like saying sins is pure micro. SC wasn't originally designed with hard core micro (to the level of the Koreans) in mind. However, at some point, there will be a limit to the amount of strategies you can use. What separates great players from
Consoles are better sellers because most of the human population is stupid and lazy. Hell, just look at the 'best games' for consoles - they're the stupidest, most formulaic, unimaginative, dumb-jock-focused games around.
Consoles are better sellers because they're the path of least resistance. They're the most approachable and most accessible. They're also standard. Devs can assume that one xbox is like any other xbox. It's easy to develop for because you don't need

It's not really a direct parallel to fps run'n'gun mindless shoot em ups. Unless you're only a few jumps away from your opponents, there a number of strategies that are viable on small maps. On large maps, yes there more strategic options, but the same skills/strategies/tactics needed to survive and do well on a small map also apply to them. Thus, playing on large maps only drags out the inevitable. The player with better strategy will still win. The player with better game understa
