I was visiting my best friend last week and we both went looking for a good hot seat game. Hopefully it's something they can do in an expansion, given the game already supports MP.
It seems the culture of gamers has changed. People don't like challenge. They like progression. They enjoy repetitive, mindless tasks that give the illusion of getting better without actually getting better at the game. In age of wonders 3, for example, it was suggested that in order for AI to be acceptable, it only needs to "present a credible threat". That is setting the bar pretty low, as I would only
Quoting RonLugge, reply 17 Quoting Lucky Jack, reply 12 After reading the replies on this thread, I have to wonder how many people want cakewalks at the hardest difficulty setting. There's a difference between wanting a cakewalk (no challenge) and wanting a meaningful challenge (aka more than a speedbump). Speedbumps aren't really a challenge, they're a nuisa
Sadly there will always be one person who do not understand this and make a mess. For exemple, the game 7 days to die. You can have access to the Alpha by pre-purchasing it on Steam. The problem is that you can leave Reviews on Steam. Since Steam is a mainstream mean to access games for people, you end up with people trashing the game in reviews, seemingly uncuncerned about the fact that it is an ALPHA!! And th
Nobody really knows. Figuring this out requires sales data from a lot of games and publishers, which doesn't exist. There is a market for these games, but the audience is pretty demanding and a lot of them bomb by trying to do too much and not doing anything overly well.
Quoting Tridus, reply 45 You do realize the irony of that statement in a thread where half the posts consist of "I'll reserve judgement, but I like the old system better", right? I know you were not talking directly to me but if you read my earlier posts about the dual queue I think I made a fairly decent explanation of what I like about the dual queue in GalCiv2. You will also notice I never tried
That is seriously flawed logic Tridus.
How so?
You know the game doesn't work like that senario. There is only manufacturing spending now no more social production so two things could be made at the same time.
Galciv 2 had two queues, so two things could be made at the same time. Lots of people in this thread seem to think that was great. That's the system I was talking about.
Quoting Tridus, reply 3At which point we'll instead have people complaining about how small ships are useless once larger ones are researched. Really when you think about it, they should be. X-wing's only beat Death Stars in movies!
And video games. ;)
Isnt it already the case? In galciv 2, larger hulls always give you more bang for your buck. And obsolete ships do 0 damage to a properly defended ship, making it totally useless, Beside for military ranking in diplomacy. In my last game the Drengin declared war on me, convinced about their higher military they could give me a whoopass. One stack of 5 of my highly shielded medium sized ships destroyed 20 full fl
Read the actual descriptions, and what the Dregin call a 'republic' or 'democracy' probably aren't what we'd call one. All the governments do is give increasing degrees of freedom to the colony worlds -- they start out totally controlled and run by the homeworld, and then slowly gain rights. It's about removing the inefficiencies of trying to order every little thing on a planet far removed by slowly g
Quoting Gaunathor, reply 1In all seriousness, I really hope Frogboy's plan will fix this. It got really annoying sometime. I think it'd be easy to cut down on ship spam. Just make the game so that it rewards larger more powerful ships and have the AI favor larger more powerful ships, decommissioning or upgrading the ones that get rendered obsolete by technology.
Let's not forget that Iraq at that point was in no condition to resist any invasion. Desert Storm had turned their army into hollow shell and so forth. Same with Soviets in Afganistan. But still, in the end... USA is losing the whole thing. They were able to beat the army but could not keep the country. Costs skyrocketing and making US command look for any excuse to escape the mess. That is due to too few boots.<br /
Dual queue is seriously overrated. Unless you have two sets of production points that can't be moved between the two queues, it doesn't really get you anything. If I have my production split evenly so I'll get a ship and a building in 10 turns, there is no particular advantage to doing that over putting 100% into one queue to get one thing in 5 turns, then 100% in the other to get the other thing in 5 more turns. In fact, splitting them is worse as by not splitting them I
I wanna hear the answer from a developer about this.
Other than the *five* posts from one in this thread already?

I really like the B for Billion of people in GalCiv. Why? Because it highlights how ludicrously insane (awesome) planetary invasions are in this game. That's right, just cram a couple billion suicidal maniacs in tin can spaceships. N
Turn based strategy games like this have never done well on consoles. They are generally just to complicated to control comfortably on a console controler. Also, as far as I know Stardock has never had anything to do with consoles.
Interesting fact - the PS4 OS will recognize a mouse. Its less clear if Sony will let a game use it, but they should if it's a secondary option.
Late March.
Kind of an interesting idea. If Stardock are looking for features to add, be it for the game or future expansions. I would say moons and Gaz giants would be a nice place to look at. I like complex games, but how complex is too complex? Endless space allows you to colonize gaz giants and use moons but it is also a simpler game than GalCiv in several regards.
Endless S

Well, if I had a vote, I'd vote for fluff stuff. Well, I do have a vote, but since I'm signed up for beta, I guess it doesn't count yet.
Me too. :) Fluff numbers are interesting, dont ge
Quoting Tridus, reply 44 Dude, what are you even arguing against? The original idea was exactly that - having the fluff numbers shown somewhere, just not on the primary display. Nobody ever said to get rid of them entirely. If you want to get grouchy at me for something, don't make up stuff I never said. There is plenty of real quotes to be angry at. I was
The only lesson here, is that if you try to please them all, you end up making them all angry. We have established that these numbers serve no practical purpose, that is why they are "less useful". Litterally, and technically. No sarcasm intended. But they can still have a different kind of purpose. That of storytelling, or "immersion". Why should the universe have to be modded in order to "come to life"? If we go by earlier argume
Good to hear you can abide less useful numbers out in the open! Options in 4x games are usually plentiful, so I doubt they represent a flat out waste of time and effort, because they help you customize the game to your own liking. Having more people liking the game is usually a good idea!
Sorry, but an option to turn off showing fluff data in a tooltip is a total waste of time implementing. Is it going to block all fluff data,
Will they just be emailing us a Steam key as it gets closer to the 27th?
Most likely, yes.
Having a secondary number converting the abstract game mechanical counter into a "planetary population" for roleplaying purposes, would not hurt the first readout! And having this second number as an optional feature disabled by default, means that you are really not looking at any kind of conflict here! Because then you could like you know, not turn it on! Not all want to have a clean spreadsheet without a soul. This is supposed to

You've got to be very careful with that solution. If you solve disputes with preference options too much you end up with a huge list of options that nobody wants to read through. Plus you've got to test every blessed one of them and even then you can g
