I appreciate what you are saying, and the motivational attempt as well. My viewpoint though has always been that Science should be done objectively. You say "Let's see what happens", and not "How can we make this?". That's an engineer's job. The engineer uses the work of scientists to guide him. If he doesn't he's really an Alchemist; using superstitions to make things happen. Obviously, engineers do have to do some experiments. For example, a new bridge is

You know Sinperium... I don't see how you can stay optimistic about the scientific future. Obviously doubt is factor of utmost importance in Science, so there will always be some pessimism, but I'm talking about above and beyond that. I just ran into a friend I haven't seen in a long time. While I wouldn't say she's a scientific genius by a long-shot-behind-the-back-left-handed, I think she's at least average-ish. She tells me "I heard that the Earth is

what's most funny about Sinperium's post is that the new 'grandmaster' wins by doing a ridiculous number of very simple tasks very very quickly.... which brings us back to starcraft. I think both map preferences have benefits and would hope that both would be standard play. However, the broken symmetry on existing pre-made maps is apparently enough of a deal breaker for the online community. I'm always up for more options, so I would vote for more options and then

if something just occured, spacebar will usually focus the camera to the action. Spacebar might be required for focusing on events as well, im not sure. The 'f' key can be used to jump to any selection as well. Also, the reason the camera is focusing on ships is because of zoom-to-cursor. Just knowing this you can completely avoid the issue you are having. Simply move the mouse to an empty space and zoom in or out.

I think people here are getting mixed up as to what the OP meant by 'flagship'. It is possible I am mistaken, but I see some posts that seem to think he's talking about Titans, others that seem to think it's the 'Fleet leader', and then a few that seem to have it right. To clarify, there is a 'last flagship standing' win condition in Rebellion, in which you start the game with a capital ship that must survive the whole game. I like the flagship ga

I see no listing as to why there should be 'weaknesses'. possible exploits and examples of what a 'weakness' could be are irrelevant to this argument. Please say why you think this is important. I, for one, am against this idea. Already the races have a rock-paper-scissors feel to them, and the faction split gives paper the option to come down harder on rock or make it easier to fight scissors, based on your choice. As it stands, you don't eve

Instead of just saying "the game isn't balanced correctly" and drawing people into an ambiguous fight, why don't you state what you think, specifically, is imbalance in the current game. Include these things that are 'imbalanced but masked by further imbalances' you speak of.
This could be fixed either with upping their fleet supply cost or by making them more expensive. Limiting players in how many of certain ship types they can deploy would be a bad thing, I think. People want freedom of choice, and this shouldn't be forgotten. If someone wants to build a lot of corvettes, I say why not?
Upping the supply cost could help limit the number of ships, but not enough. Theoretically, since the

You also realize that while all races/factions might have a +5% to shields buff, they're all in different places on the tech tree? And, continuing with this example, the advent have more of these upgrades, so the max levels are different between the races as well. So, yeah, because they are different, they will have different names. Can you give 1 example of a tech that is on the same part of the tree for all races and exactly identical, but have different names?

Ok, look... Greg30007 is right in the sense that AI doesn't actually exist. However, in video games, the common nomenclature for computer-controlled 'players' is 'AI'. So, let's not muddy the waters by nitpicking the use of the word(s) in this context. Everyone knew (well, mostly knew) what RiddleKing was talking about. However, we could open up a post on the general forums if you want to discuss AI, because I do dispute the statement: " No A

I kinda like this too... but the way I'd do it is subsystems. So, you could, for instance knock out the engines(see *), then the shields. Or maybe special abilities are a subsystem, so you could knock out that annoying ability which is causing you such a headache, then you're opponent has to decide whether to keep on truckin' or go back and get it repaired. However, these types of ideas do run the risk of making titans too weak very, very easily. I would prop

I had the same crash tonight, but it wasnt after the game had finished (was a much longer game). So I'm guessing it is related to the length of the game? I have slightly more details this time. The Crash came with a message box for the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: "Runtime Error! Program: blahblah Rebellion.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

According to the infocard about the loyalist faction, I was expecting to get all those loyalist-only research options immediately and for free. I thought that was the point in choosing the faction. It was only near the end of my game that I figured out it was specialized research items. And these research items were really far down the tree as well. So, what is the point of choosing a faction on a small map? do you get any benifit? I feel like this choice didnt matter much. I woul

I was playing a Rebellion game vs. the AI. I won, and chose to keep playing. Not long after that (like within 1 minute), The game crashed. I looked for a mini-dump, and see nothing in the indicated temp directory. After relaunching the game and loading from an auto save, I was not able to reproduce this crash. I should also mention that the AI was acting very strange. I was expanding my empire fairly slowly, being methodical. The AI only took a very small number of planets and

Well, the trend is to reduce the voltage traveling through each wire to the transistor. The goal is to get it down to a point where we are sending only 1 electron. The possiblity of bumping up against quantum effects has long since been the feared end of moore's law. So, you're right, that's not the way it is right now. But it is the way we're headed, before we even reach a quantum computer. From what I've read, you could potentially read the spin at the s

From Wikipedia: Charge carriers (such as electrons) have a property known as spin which is a small quantity of angular momentum intrinsic to the carrier. An electrical current is generally unpolarized (consisting of 50% spin-up and 50% spin-down electrons); a spin polarized current is one with more electrons of either spin. By passing a current through a thick magnet
