Sins isn't dead, it's just terminally ill with illumspamitis and in critical need of rebalance bypass surgery

[quote who="Darvin3" reply="5" id="2341587"]Honestly, nothing is in the same league as the illum/guardian/progen combo right now. Not even missile barrage; lest anyone forget, a mid-game Advent fleet can tank missile barrage, easily. I only ever beat a mature Advent fleet in one of three ways: significantly outnumber them (more than 2:1) with a (well upgraded) starbase with my own fleet of Advent units I'm not surprised that people are banning Ad

There was already a thread on refineries adn the way i see it is: only use them if you absolutely NEED to increase the resource income of your already established worlds, because as N3rull says, they sucks. The TEC and Advent start weak and gain power, the TEC fairly quickly, and the Advent more slowly. The Vasari start strong and lose power, late-game their fleets are just not as capable as TEC and Advent ones are, but they have bonuses in other areas. A well balanced

The government should set guidelines; it should not, however, offer a plan of its own. The Federal government is innefficient, i for one do not want a bureaucrat deciding the limits of my health care. I would rather deal with a profit-seeking vampyric corporation, at least i know where that will let me down; rather than the government that may decide halfway through my treatment to stop supporting me. Insurance companies are all or nothing, the government doesn't know where it is goin

It is impossible to make everyone happy, everything is going to offend someone in some way. The dialogue was probably meant to be humorous, if there was no mention (or joking) of the protagonist being a female, what's the point of having a female main character? Feminism is not inherently bad, but the premise is flawed. It starts with the base assumption that men, all men, have more rights and privleges than every woman. In the U.S. there are laws in place that protect th

That and having to house the munitions on-board would take up a lot of space. There is going to be a firestorm after a write this if there are any feminists here... Men treat women differently than they treat men because women ARE different than men. In her article, she talks about women's roles as mothers and the act of reproduction, us being here depends on the ladies... so exuse me if I'm a little nicer to them. Artillery cruisers are great, thanks for the models darvin. Does anybody know how to make those? I think repulse needs to have a smaller range though, otherwise the advent could push anything trying to flank the fleet right back into the line of fire. I was also thinking about abilites, with caps like the marza, you would want to keep it out of the middle of the fight and thus most of the enemies would be out of range of its abilities, i am not sure how to fix this since

[quote who="Darvin3" reply="4" id="2339031"] My idea was to make battles more like artillery duels in the start, and then give lfs some usage without changing their stats. One of my ideas was to add a new unit type, an "area of effect" artillery cruiser which would be particularly effective against huge swarms of tightly packed enemies (battleball counter, anyone?). Advent would have the weakest artillery cruiser, Vasari would probably get the strongest, and

Darvin, i was actually thinking about the illum when i wrote that, with side beams they are nearly impossible to flank. I think it could be done if the side beams are made MUCH weaker. Like a marza, they would concentrate most of their firepower straight ahead, with weak side beams. The advent are already near-invincible in the late game (one reason why i play them) and they do not need anymore advantages. My idea was to make battles more like artillery duels in the start, and

A word of advice: Don't argue with veteran players, they will win. But hey, at least they aren't mean about it As far as refineries go, they are useful if you have a good planet with plenty of lanes to other mineral-rich worlds, or becuase they are the only way (other than research) to increase metal and crystal income. If any of you have played supcom, i use refineries like mass storage, to increase income. If there isn't a good place to set up a refinery, i

Perhaps not everyone, but I'm seeing a lot more Advent in the game lobbies these days than I should. Sometimes I'll be in a 2v2 and I'll be the only one who is not playing Advent. Range in sins is rather unimportant, being in the middle of an enemy fleet is just as bad as being directly in front of an enemy fleet (assuming the same ships are firing at you) So what i have been thinking about is a change to how the combat in sins plays out. I am not a mod-god so i don't know if this is possible, but what about giving weapons both maximum and minimum ranges? This way, two fleets would start far apart and would fire on each other with their long range weapo

While i am an unwavering intel fanboy, going with an AM3 socket processor (the new AMD CPUs) might be the better option. The intel socket types are getting all mixed up with the i7 and i5 and it is impossible to know right now which socket (1336 or 1156, or maybe even 775... who knows) will provide the best upgrade path, i.e. not having to change the mobo. The AM3, at least from what i've read is a fairly new socket and thus will continue to be supported with high end parts.

Dead asteroids have uses, the TECs devlopment mandate research gives them an economic importance (ok, one trade port isn't exactly a HUGE bonus...). And for the other raes it can be used as a trap. They shouldn't spawn near HWs and not at all on smaller maps, just becuase they are only useful in larger games where you can afford a world that gives you very little economically. I just recently played a game where there were magnetic clouds all over the place (there were 2,
