What's "Ultimate"? Does it have all the GC2 expansions, and is it itself a further expansion? What does it cost to upgrade from vanilla DL to Ultimate, or do I not want to go that route?
Yes. Ultimate is GCII plus all expansions. You can upgrade your vanilla with the expansion bundle for $29.95 USD here As far as I

Sins will be easier to get into and learn. GalCiv2 does take a bit of time to learn all the ins and outs but if you are a veteran TBS grand strategy player you may pick it up quicker. I find GalCiv2 more relaxing to play. Turns can go pretty quick and the "auto-turn" feature helps it go faster.

What SpardaSon said. You pick the shape of the universe/galaxy and there are around 24 choices in the Complete Collection. Flat, sphere, spiral, arm, clusters, rift are examples. I checked out GoG. They even have I-War with the Defience expansion!
Well, I personally loved it. It wasn't that bad, just it got dogpiled upon release due to few minor issues. Maybe its just cause I skipped MoO2 and and went directly from MoO, but I didn't notice any gamebreaking issues in it. It was fun to play.
Lets hope Atari will release a digital download via Impulse. I want to see what all the fuss is about. I've heard once it was patched up it was a good game. back on topic. When I got Sword of the Stars I was into S
Send more colony ships, with biomes+suspended animation later you can send several, each ship provides a useful population boost but also increases the infrastructure by a little, which can kick start your production if you send many. (also if the climate hazzard is high you can't rely on the planets natural growth rate, because it's significantly affected by CH)
I'm just getting into SotS too (even though I've owned it longer). Thank you! This will help with
I know you don't prefer impulse, but for $6 you get both the original and the sequel (though I don't imagine I'll play 1 all that much). At any rate, I did pick up the impulse version.
I thought I'd be the same way. I'd like to see it since I missed out when MoO2 came out but I just can't see myself tinkering with it for more than a few turns. But I might cave in later.
Ps- I LOVE the art style. Sometimes I zoom in (limits disabled) just to look at the units and buildings in cities or the wild. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the artwork. EXCELLENT JOB, please don't change this (as I have heard suggested...insane people!).
There is a lot of enjoyable detail and animation in the buildings of the cities. I like it too.
In that case, unless you're the "digital distribution is the future and boxes are evil" kind of person, I strongly suggest that you buy the retail version and apply the 1.1 patch. It removes TAGES activation completely.
Hmm...I wonder since the version Impulse is selling is v1.2 if TAGES has been removed from it and it's mislabled in the catalog. Not that I'm going to try and find out the hard way.</p
(pirates) They are manageable and finally getting your revenge on their base is satisfying!
One of my more satisfying moments in DW was building a fleet then warping in to a pirate base to blast it. But then a fleet from another race warped in. I thought oh crap I can't take the base and them at the same time. So I'm starting to ready my fleet to escape and the other race opens up on the pirate base!!. So I stay and we both turn the pirates into slag. Now what! Here ou
Only snake in the garden I see at the moment is the DRM which remains TAGES with 3 activation limit. But there seems to be a "way around that" for sneaky people should it prove necessary.
I know, right! Heck, take TAGES off it and I'll buy it at FULL price.

[e digicons]:X[/e] well this is totally embarrassing but I fire up Elemental on my Win7 laptop and there sit the sovereigns I created. Geez. They weren't there last night I tells ya! The cake is a LIE! All your base belong to us...

16 Replies 12,706 Views

The sovereign list is fully visable so no need to scroll. If running as admin doesn't work I will uninstall and reinstall to see if that works. I'm going to be busy so I may not get to testing it right away but I hope to try some things tonight now that I know it can save. Being able to edit the sovereign later would be a good feature to have.
When you "create sovereign" it saves it for use in all future games. Did you even try heh?
I did in fact click the save button. Then it moves on to the civilization select screen and then on to the new game. But if I go back to start a new game, I don't see my custom sovereign as a selection in the sovereign list. I think it might be something to do with my Windows 7 laptop and maybe running Elemental out of Impulse. I will

Are there plans to add the ability to create a sovereign that can be saved and used for later use in new games. Is it already in the game and I just haven't figured out how yet?

I've unlocked some more core designs. So far that would be my only dislike of GC2 is not knowing what "ships=units" I am unlocking with what tech I'm researching. I'm sure I will get a feel for it as I play more and it does make a certain sense that say sensors, hull types, and logistics might be needed in order to build certain ship types. It is flying blind at first. This is another good reason to design your own ships though.
But, wanted to thank Stardock for having the "cahones" to make a strategy game in today's "shoot, die and respawn" world. You have my support!
Amen to that!

Elemental's Janusk advisor does help as your walking tutorial if you want to pay him. It is nice that you can play, save, and still have him help you while playing an actual game versus a tutorial you use once or twice.

Thank you for the detailed answer. Others have also said they don't think much of the core ships and much prefer their own designs. I was interpreting that as "prefer making their own warships" though and thought at least core freighters would be useful and would have unlocked once trade and hyperdrive were unlocked. (per the GalCivII Wiki. https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Freighter ) Thank you again for the tips, Mumblefr

I really hadn't been following Elemental too closely at all because I just didn't think I'd be interested in a magic based strategy game. I'd say the tutorial movies that were posted helped to convinced me to keep an eye on it. But some how after playing a few time with Civilization IV something clicked and I finally began to see the fun in building up cities and tech. I'm playing and enjoying GalCivII now also because I think I finally "get it" The tutorial of Civ IV is good and it w
