Been away from the game for a year and looking to possibly play online again. Just before I left, they nerfed carriers so that even they were susceptible to the almighty LRF. Just before that, they boosted the hell out of flak to essentially make fighters a joke. The only decent counter to the LRF's were scouts (thank you for the discovery RagingAmish). NOW I see that they've nerfed even the scouts. I find myself wondering if the devs have some sort of fetish for maki

Wow I feel stupid - I should have thought of that. Thsnk you very much. BTW, sorry your steel command thing didn't work out (just caught back up on it in its thread), it sounded really awesome.
Hey Y'all, Been away from the game for a year, and now when I try to sign on, I can't remember my password. I've changed my forum password, and my stardock password, but none of these work to sign into ICO. As a temporary solution, I've created a new player name, but I would like to use my old one (with accompanying history so I don't have to deal with smurf accusations). Any suggestions?
Banned because I just discovered MysteryGuitarMan on youtube. On another note, it pleases me greatly to see this thread is still going strong after more than a year.

Depends. Read the forums to get to know the counters and if you start with just vanilla online, you have some pretty good chances. There are a lot of newer players on vanilla and entrenchment is filled with more experienced. I started on vanilla and it helped make the learning curve much more gentle. Keep in mind though that MP is almost an entirely different game. It's much faster paced (can be either a plus or minus depending on your stance), much more mentally chall

Yes, the list does actually exist... https:
Thing is, in the game in question, it had been clearly decided in favor of the team that was asking Champ to quit. I watched the replay of that game. It was clearly over.
Then in that case... Yes. You should have quit. AI allies are little more than a stall tactic. They will never beat a good online player, merely serve as a stopgag for you to push your advantage into a clear win.
Alright, it took a bit of poking around (I have XP), but I found how to do it in Vista: Step 1: Make Hidden Files viewable: I copied this directly from http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1521/how_to_view_hidden_and_system_files_and_folders_in_vista/ 1.
AKAIK (based on my observation etc...), a person loses when they can no longer colonise or produce a colony ship (i.e. no planets and no colony frig/cap left)
I'll have to watch the whole replay to be sure, but I don't believe he had any more colonizers, and we totalled all his planets and starbases. Both my ally and I had clairvoyance and we were checking all the spots on the map that we didn't control. We weren't being comp
Add "War General" to the list. We just finished a game that took 4.5 hours instead of the 2.5 where he actually lost. His ally had quit well over an hour ago, he had lost all his planets, and he had lost all of his colonizers. Instead of surrendering, he runs deep into the AI's territory and cozies up to a transcencia and dares us to come up there and duke it out with him. My ally and fight our way up to the planet he wants and promptly destroy the transcencia and half his fleet.
Also keep in mind that the replays become invalidated with each new patch. So 90% of the replays currently posted on the forums will no longer work. They should still appear on the list in game though. It will just say "Invalidate save file" or something like that. Senorfrito above tells you how to put them in there.
I wish I had SEEN him scout rush, but I've only heard. In fact, it was that same match. At the end BSC and him were having a an argument and it was clear that Krath had successfully scout rushed him. I DID encounter it in game the first time the other day though. GrandVeer (aka gugabalog on the foums) successfully pulled off a good timed explosives run on me. I was able to prepare a little ahead of time and minimize some losses, but I wasn't able to counter it effectively. Part of the
If you were in the winning position, I sure as hell wouldn't quit. It's one thing if your team members lose a few skirmishes and then book it, that's a much harder position to recover from and I probably would quit. If you've got the advantage, fight them to the bitter end. AI's may not be a strategic match for players, but they're no pushovers either. It's gonna take time to bring them down, and that buys you the necessary time to take out one of their allies and even the tide.
In all fairness to him, that game was over before it even started since his ally was guaranteed to get rolled quickly. I'm amazed he played it as long as he had. Even if you're a great player, it's hard to win when you have two human opponents against just yourself and they own 65% or more of the map. I've been meaning to put this up for a while, but I've been a bit busy so haven't really had till now. Raging Amish, I just wanted to say thanks for keeping me in the match a couple weeks ago. It was obvious that there were more skilled players that you knew better who were begging to get in, so I really appreciate that you let me stay. I also wanted to comment that you appear to be one of the most courteous people I've met in an online game. If you post a reply on this thread, I'll g
Normally I don't like picking on weaker players, but this was just too pathetically funny for me to resist. REPLAY 2v2 match. Me and the opponent above me get horrible map placement while the other side has decent territory, but mostly volcanic and ice. I go after the better placed opponent because that's where my scraps of possible territory lie. Facing illum rush backed by superior econ, I decide my best

Thanks Derek, that was really insightful. [e digicons]k1[/e] I'm getting two conflicting opinions here though. Amish says that I will never outdo illums with Javeli, so I should just pump out 100 scouts in response to the illum threat, Derek says I should forget about flak and hoshis in lew of pumping out many more javeli until later on. I'm assuming there is some sort of middle ground here I'm missing due to lack of experience. Do either of you have a replay you could
[e digicons]k1[/e] Awesome thread. I particularly loved Astax's turtle replay. J: "Let's rush yellow. You hear tha motherfucker? We're coming for you!" One hour later A: J how'd that rush work out? J: Not so well [e digicons]XD[/e]
Thanks for the referral Amish. I actually read through the whole post while it was incomplete, but I've only perused since you've finished it. I'll take a closer look and see if something sticks out to me. [e digicons]k1[/e] Now, understanding what you've said, what should I do when a smart opponent notices that I am massing scouts and starts pumping out disciples to balance his fleet? It seems to me that I would have to produce a lot more scouts than he would disciples (which
