I'm curious to model myself but don't think I will have the time to learn all the tweaks. Somone does have a modeling package somewhere though as I recall seeing it. Perhaps they'll post a link.
Sinperium
Well that is a bummer.
Is there a comment tag that can be used in galaxy file maps? I mean like the equivalent of: //comment here or comment here --> ...to can be used to add non-displayed comments but doesn't interfere with the map's function. Any such thing in SINS as I would like to flag parts of my larger
Congrats on modding! The more the merrier.
The Advent operatic-like selection (not sure of the name). Very cool.
Cool deal--karmaeggedoooon!
I keep hoping the Mafia Wars people will kill all the farmers at Farmville and then starve to death themselves from lack of food--a win-win situation.
Maybe we can get a "Papa Smurf" expansion?
Mmmmmm...64bit...time for windows 7 methinks. I was wondering if anyone had "optimal" windows hardware acceleration settings and all for Sins? Aliasing settings and the like for the graphics cards?
Hmmm...I think it is primarily a factor of the map size--how many worlds, pirates, militia, construction, combat, etc. As you play, more and more current actions have to be written and stored into memory...eventually it gets full and your cpu puts memory loading on hold while it tries to catch up. Think of your memory like a chain of large dump trucks and your cpu as the excavator that unloads them. When you are going slow/freezing, there are so many trucks your cpu gets m
It's essentially a "work around"...the game doesn't allow a lot of things--especially without modding. I am working on a map now trying to balance out the disparate starting conditions but it requires a lot of thought as to world type and placement, jump paths, pirate/militia positions, relative income/tech progression, etc.--basically a boat-load of playtesting required.
That was me Harpo and it works fine if implemented as given. I have been tweaking it constantly while playtesting it and it still functions. Many of the forum examples are dated or inciomplete with no clarification of needed changes--get Harpo's map...it's an essential.
*burp*...forum indigestion.
Ah--I didn't know about the rebels as I have played Advent and Vasari mostly. That would be the attack out of nowhere but it fits quite well with my map design intent--very cool and thanks for the info. It's a small force compared to a pirate raid. The pirates came on a different map and definitely moved from at least one planet to two others off of phaselanes/wormholes. In one case, I was able to move my ships halfway to another planet while pursuing them.
I have a map with some isolated systems designed only to be reached by Vasari ships. They connect to the greater map by one-way jump holes yet I keep getting pirate/rebel raids at these bases. I thought pirates used only the phase lanes--what gives here? There isn't even a wormhole or phaselane connect to these systems and this has happened numerous times. On one map I watched them travel in open space (no lane) to a system--is that intentional?
It just needs a specific purpose rather than being a clone attempt of the current forum. Fully agreed there. There is no need for a duplicate forum. Come up with an angle to make it worthwhile and it will get traffic. Along the line of web for profit...my fourteen year old just got contacted by a Los Angeles recording studio and offered $125us to change the music in his video to a song by one of their artists. He has one with 500k hits--I haven't been able to
I'm not dissing the official forum or saying someone else's is better. There are a lot of threads here--some helpful, some dated, some egomanical, some cliquish, some wrong, some off topic, some annoying and some amusing--but I might not find what I want in the mess. If a person starts a fan site or a forum or whatever because they like something, it's their perogative and their dime and a free internet. Why all the criticism and instant resentment? There is no threa
Thanks for the link there good info all. Appreciate the help. I am fine with Impulse b ut I usually like to be able to determine my own destiny and it sucks to be with no internet access AND no games.
Ah...any clue where/how one might find that?
The one real advantage to having a seperate forum would be to build a base of like minded players. Meaning a smaller group focused on a particular element of the game. I don't think you can replicate this forum or that doing so would be of much value but you could develop a small grouop of players who share a specific common interest--whether its playing a group or certain style of game, modding along a particular theme in which they all share enthusiasm, etc. The more org
I'm wondering if there is any scheme that allows Impulse purchsers of the various Sins expansions to get a CD at a discounted rate? Occasionally I play with a non-net connected location and having a "Trinty" Cd would be nice as a failsafe. I have Sins and all of the expansions through purchased downloads but cannot play at these locales when I am there. Anyone got any information along this line? [No laptop here] :(
There is an inadequacy with the current forum as regards finding regular players to build a relationship with and ease of finding particular opponents and matches/game types. Several people have mentioned this and having a forum focusing on this is fine. I manage a couple of small forums for another game and it's done outside the official forum to avoid the clutter and confusion there. A private forum can be managed and directed better than an open free for all so
So I noted as I played last night that as you improve the Vasari starbase weapons, the first increases firepower but the second improvement states its an increase in range and then afterwards firepower continues to be increased. Is it a typo or does the Orkulus start out with shorter range and come up to norm with improvement or actually get an increase?
One of the starbase improvement steps for the Orkulus weapons states it gives the weapons greater range. Not sure if that is more than previously but sounds like.
I am working on a biggish map based on a classic scifi board game (Imperium) and Diplomacy and Entrenchment came along in the middle of it--so I have had to redefine it. I like the changes in Diplomacy with the smarter AI particularly and welcome fierce pirates (though I think the recent nerf was a good call). SINS really has no endpoint but is simply a long death battle with the exception of the map design capability. If well thought out, the map is the ga
