The issue people have with kosturas is not the affect of one kostura, but the effect of many kosturas...things like stun time and creating a phase stabilizer are what make even one kostura useful...the damage done is what makes multiple kosturas devastating...
Agreed with you there. Multiple are dangerous but again we human players will abuse the hell out of it. Its meant to black out said planet and invade. Point blank. On shot is all thats needed, not 3 or 4.
Industrial Juggernaut and pervasive economy simply don't give the TEC the power they need to overcome their inferior late game fleet...really, it just doesn't work
Again thanks for the response but a good or a ok example is with races on starcraft. I consider the tec as the zerg in respects with sheer numbers and the ability to replace quickly. On the other hand vasari is the protoss with a large fleet supply regarding ships and power. This is just a rou
Silverion23, I would say that from a MP perspective, sins is in desperate need of balance...multiplayer is one of the most brutal things for a game designer to try and address because even the slightest imbalance will be exploited massively by human players
So true, but what now?? What can be possibly done to assure players wont exploit advantages? Any change will equate to another problem in spite said change. If you want a TRUE balance make all factions the same acros
Also, what is a phase missile? When used by a long range frigate it appears in the game as something like a homing torpedo, but they wouldn't be fast enough to engage strikecraft?
Exactly. What is PM? Devs said it bypass shields and thats it. Its a non issue on how fast they travel.
To take your own examples... two equally skilled players in late game TEC vs Vasari. Vasari will win as they can kill stuff far faster than even TEC spam can replace it.
Thanks for the response but regarding this how so? There starbase with adequete research can build ships faster. And with the actual military or civilian research (i forget which one) to build ships faster should out pace the vasari's responses. On top of that tec are on the defensive in the late game.
Having phase missiles on everything is absurd, because the specific purpose of the phase missile is to bypass shields. As strikecraft do not have shields, why should units intended to engage them like flak and fighters use phase missiles?
Absurd to you but make hell of a lot of sense for a grand empire that ruled countless worlds to implement such technology. Look at it at this angle.... Vasari has there bases covered by absurdly placing PM on everythin
However some of your comments seem poorly considered. If the TEC were to be unprepared for war, then logically they should be relatively weak at first, and stronger in the late game, not the other way round
What i mean by that is as far as an impending threat, one would respond by converting commercial frigates to military ships to ward off or stave said danger. But as the game progress why would they be better at it. They were unprepared for it in the first place. If

Yes i do. I never said that the game is balanced at all. Merely stating that there are direct and indirect counters for whatever your opponenet throw at you. If you cant win with mere power head on, try a different tactic. This is a strategy game after all.

18 Replies 9,139 Views

Thank you for your response. But i honestly feel as though with each balance would bring about a whole new set of problems. Your right AI is stupid but yet humans will use whatever unit that assures victory instead of a mix fleet. The problem isnt balance but is the people who play it, i.e. you. Spam bombers, sure why not but are you playing to win or playing to have fun. Game is intended to use a variety of different ships and abilities that each respective faction owns.
If yo
First: Run that by me again...
What i mean is that it is best to leave anything that bypass shields for the vasari.
Fifth: Kostura is far, far better than the other superweapons at this point, though the nerf might be a bit much.
The Kostura requires work from the vasari to invade said planet after it turns it into a phase stabilizer. Tec out right bombs the hell out of it and the advent is out right dangerous.

I am kinda new here but been playing the game long enough to know the basic ins and outs. Most post i read in other threads talk about balance. But I think that mostly the ships and abilities in each faction actually reflect said faction. Tec wasnt seen war in ( dont know the excat lore) years and yet people demand buffs in their ships and abilities to fight on par with the other factions in the late game. Why? Why would they get any better when most of there ships were commerci

Hi, well pirate raids strengths arent that formidable in the beginning of the game. I always had them on when i first played and turned them off ever since. You can always place bounties so they attack the other opponent. But again i turned them off cause them attacking every what seven minutes is irratating. Regarding cap ships, each one cost 50 supply and you get a free cap of your choice and the rest you pay for. But you have to build a cap ship factory in order to produce a cap sh

I just skimmed most of these post so if i repeat someone else i apologize. When i play i first send a couple of scouts on auto explore. Asteroids of course are the easiest to acquire. Depending on the map size, i would go for a colonizer cap with a large or medium map and a battleship for small. Go from asteriods to planet, this would help get your economy going just a little and research what you need. The beginning of the game would either make you or break you. Everything is at a premium s

Reply to Sova carrier in Strategy

Totally agree with Darvin. It depends on what map your playing and the usage of said carrier. Not a good start on a large map though. As TEC it would be advantages to get your economy up first with the akkan and then whatever cap ship you want next.

Tec from a economical stand point are pretty good. Its just in late game they dont have the lackluster they once had in the early game. Not to say they are worst of the three factions it just that they taper down as soon as the other factions reach mid to late game. Tec can replace ships with the respective research. They can annoy the hell out of your opponent with insurgency. And speaking of late game, credits is non issue when trade ports and research are up. I think with these mak

Well my thoughts were if you cant beat them using power or numbers use another method. Spreading culture, attacking a different planet or even have them assault you and fight on your own turf. Or even better, with TEC you can build ships in a blink of an eye with research, wither away the vasari with numbers and replace lost ships. Advent, contaminate there worlds with culture and drop their income to submission. The devs gave us so much, lets use them.

For starters the disciple vessel acts as fodder in the early game until properly researched. With a low fleet supply one can produce them en mass. Advent rely on each other for the support. With shield research and the steal anitmatter makes the DV an asset.

Agreed but it also sounds like your in the late game if your opponet has such defenses. Luckly the devs gave us superweapons to end such entrenchment. It one cant successfully engage the enemy then force them out of hiding.

The one thing i love about sins is the fact the each factions are in anyway similar to each other. It would make sense for the damage upgrade to come first and then the modifiers afterwards but you encounter a problem. Phase missiles bypass shields is enough already. The amount of damage is a non issue due to the part where the actual missile hits the hull. That already is an advantage. Most vasari ships have phase missiles, that said damage increase is not a issue until late game thu

Game play wise it doesnt matter but looking at it from a factional point of view the TEC nukes. Next would be the vasari and lastly the advent. Tec outright use brute force, cant get any more than that with nukes. Vasari have advance precise weapons. They can target whatever with accuracy. Advent suck only because they want a change in people opinions (and revenge) why kill population unless you have too...

Hey everyone, I am new to this tread and i been reading everyones comments. Some i agreed and some i disagree upon but i thing most failed to look at the big picture. I think the devs did a pretty good job at balancing the game so far besides the fact that most caps need buffs. But I think most failed to look at the advantages and disadvantages coming from each faction. The Vasari has phase missiles on everything cause thats their main weapon for bypassing shields. Why use anything el
