For people who know how to use the forum and to find information, there remain only two real barriers to entry into multiplayer: the minidumps (which don't happen all that often, although they're very annoying) and the learning curve, which is the biggest problem. I hope Ironclad comes up with much better tutorials for Rebellion - lacking that, it would still be a great improvement if they could at least direct interested players to the forum or to a detailed manual o

One of the biggest problems with Sins is the lack of players online. For something which sold hundreds of thousands of copies (over 500,000 by Fall 2008) and which won IGN's "Best PC Game of the Year", there's something seriously wrong if one can usually only find 20-50 people online (and usually less than 10 on Vanilla + Entrenchment combined), even during the peak hours in the evening. I can think of a few contributing factor

Last Sat afternoon I saw a whopping 11 players on three matches in v 1.191, so where are all the new players who start with small scenarios? Can they not host on the ICO servers? My attempt at hosting compatibility showed that my IP was invisible or something, but I was able to start my own small scenario. I wai

Well, if you preorder and have Diplomacy, it's only $29.99 currently to buy Rebellion. Otherwise it's $40. Diplomacy is $10. So: Buy Diplomacy, then preorder Rebellion, you'll be effectively getting Diplomacy for free!

Whatever enemy it is would most likely be way too overpowered (or too underwhelming if in some sort of campaign form, if AI isn't significantly improved). It might be interesting to see what the "enemy" would be like in a game, but I don't think it would have much positive to add to the meat of the game. I hope that Ironclad doesn't consider putting them ingame any time soon.

Late-game? Carriers with mostly bombers is a pretty easy way to deal damage, along with some flak and Guardians, and a good number of Crusaders is a decent start.

To be honest, I'm somewhat surprised you were able to withdraw your capital ships successfully against such a large bomber swarm and have to question the competency of your opponent.[/quote] Given the threat, after warping in, immedi

Among the regulars at least, I don't see all that many people suddenly leaving a game or going afk for no reason... it is incredibly rude when it happens though. Still, sometimes people get minidumps, and from what I've heard they've gotten more common recently (where the player's game crashes, they leave the game, and nothing can be done about it). The active players online that I've seen very rarely suddenly stop playing or leave the game for no reason. T

Multiplayer or singleplayer? Some things to know about the Advent: the other races often rely very heavily on their LRF, but the Advent's LRF is the Illuminator, which has some problems. Firstly, it requires 3 military labs instead of 2, and so takes a little more effort to get, especially in the more cramped games like 5v5 where there aren't many logistics slots available. Secondly, its listed DPS is spread out over 3 beams: one front and two sides. It doesn't do all that

In cramped 5v5, for instance, what you're saying makes good sense because enemy homeworlds are most likely quite close to your own and you need a fleet ASAP. But some
