The topic is an actual campaign. It would expand on the current story of Sins and put the player in a position where they are characters in that story. I don't know how Ironclad plans to present it: the character (you) as the leader of your empire or a commander for the empire, but either way they present it, it should be amazing, and serve as another good selling point for the game. For some fans, it's critical, for others it's not, and for others like me, it's one more featu

[e digicons][/e] I have not played that one, Bellack. Is that in UT 1 or one of the later tournaments? While I really like the later ones (2003, 2004, and UT 3) - great engine - my heart has been with the original, classic UT. Aside from Sins, I've been playing that. Since I re-installed last month, I've been playing the same map (a custom map called The City), so I need to get out of my rut and diversify.

You know you play this game too much when: 1. Your friend walks out of your office the minute you start talking about Sins of a Solar Empire (true story)! 2. You're driving behind a very slow person and instinctively look for a button on the steering wheel to increase game speed. 3. You are involved in a car accident and the first thing you do is yell: "Capital ship shields are down!" 4. Your friend tells a corny joke while you are replying to this po

I don't know if there are very many, if any, Unreal Tournament fans in this community, but one of my many goals involves eventually re-visiting the Unreal Editor and continuing to learn it. It will be a while before I do this, but it's on my list. For one of the maps, the arena includes a window that overlooks a space dock, and in that dock, is a large capital ship (life-size model) from FreeSpace (the game), but today, I imagined another window showing the Kol or Marza (or both) from

So move from planet to planet and destroy everything. Got it. I'm starting to regret my decision to play a 3 star map. [e digicons]:annoyed:[/e] Thanks Wrath. I also have some questions about the information you sent so you should be getting an e-mail sometime today.

Here's an embarrassing question: how do you secure a victory? I attacked the remaining empire's capital world (or I think it was their capital - it said Home) and after destroying the colony, there was no fanfare or anything, so...

*Reading very in-depth conversation between dbkita and Wrath89* [e digicons]:omg:[/e] Wow. *moves hand, palm down, over the top of my head* That's okay. One day I'll be on board. :P Last night, I engaged an Orkulus for the first time. Bombers took it out pretty quickly.

Good lesson on starbases. Thanks. I have yet to fight an Orkulus, but I did see one attacking another empire once. And thanks for the information on inhibitors. That will prove very useful. I hope to have some time this week to finish looking over the information as well as the replays you sent me. The experience of becoming a better player has been frustrating, but enlightening. Eventually, after I have the basics down, I'll be able to start developing my own strategies for offline and o

Thanks for the replays. I'll take a look. So your fleet would be your primary defense. Wouldn't a starbase be good backup to assist the fleet in delivering heavy fire as the fleet keeps the enemy human occupied? And two inhibitors? I just read up on phase jump inhibitors and I'm seeing that one may not be enough to fully blanket a phase point. Interesting. Do you build them next to the phase point? I assumed you could build one right by the planet and that it would affect

Sorry to hit you with so many questions. You and others on this board are very experienced and willing to help so I'm taking full advantage of that. I've honestly never used my scouts offensively. Well I once had them fire on a homing mine, but never a combat maneuver against siege frigates. That's interesting. Question on choke points. If you look at Persia on the map , notice that it is link
As TEC you can also research something to significantly decrease buying prices from the black market. In longer games where you have a significant resource imbalance it can help a lot.
Thanks, I was all over that as soon as I read it. You were correct about Galatia being my homeworld and also correct that Caldiera was an enemy homeworld. So your strategy is to quickly determine who and where your neighbors are, and then lock them down to prevent expansion. Makes

It's a three star map. In the beginning, I had 4 planets. Now I control 13 planets and 3 (about to be 4) belts. My income has been amazing. You were absolutely right about trade ports. I have plenty of crystal coming in, but my metal is slow. I have all metal and crystal production fully upgraded, but I guess I don't have as many metal extractors as I have crystal. I keep having to buy metal which is annoying. All of my planets except 2 have a starbase. The 2 without are in th
A fortified starbase on one of your worlds (hull repair capabilities with repair platforms) will fight off nearly any enemy fleet, of all difficulties except sometimes Cruel or Vicious if you don't have defenders to kill bombers and antistructure enemy frigates.
Right now, in my new campaign, I have three routes to my capital world. So I set up a starbase (with docking beams) by each connected world with 5 frigates ordered to hold position. I am n
They should also add random events.
@ seanw3: I hope they provide an option for random events as well. That's a great idea.
I'd love to see what people could come up with if we had a dynamic and powerful campaign editor. Maybe there would be space monsters and other random oddities. One thing I've learned from my FPS experience is that game studios are good at building the framework for a game, but players and enthusiasts are best
You probably shouldn't have any fighters in this situation: the attacking rebels often have a few flak frigates and will decimate fighters very quickly, but the rebels never have fighters, and often have heavy cruisers, so bombers are your best bet.
Great tip. That's good to know.
I always max out on trade ports on all logistics slots on all my worlds before fleeting up to build an offensive fleet.
Wow, all of your logistic slots?

That's a good point, Zimat. I totally agree. When they build a campaign, hopefully it won't involve giving the player orders. Instead it would involve a sequence of events that you, as the leader of your empire, must deal with. Put simply, a campaign would be a formal presentation of those events (strung together by video cut scenes and briefings where they brief the leader - you - on what has developed). For those who don't want to experience that, they still have solo or

I learned a lot from this campaign. I ended up taking the fight to them and my last stand was around one of their planets, engaging multiple fleets, but they crushed me. Next campaign, I'll do a better job of fortifying my planets. I think I also need to create more smaller fleets for defensive purposes, as one of my friends suggested. I tend to rely on a single, super force.

I'm getting overwhelmed. Rebels keep attacking various worlds, I'm losing money because of upkeep, I think (trying to build more trade ports), and I have multiple fleets engaging me on two fronts in my star. I wish I had established better defenses much sooner. [e digicons]#:([/e] I need a break (saving). This is stressing me out. My inexperience keeps getting me into trouble.
So many people have clamored for a campaign that they should make one or at least make a campaign editor to satiate their fans' wishes. Personally, I don't need a campaign since I only play against humans in online multiplayer, but that's not the case for the overwhelming majority of Sins players who seem to prefer playing against severely mentally challenged AI opponents, and they want a campaign.
I like to play against humans and AI. Thanks Ryat. I was pulling my hair out. Right now, to counter this threat, I'm placing hangars if possible, and if not, I'm sending two carriers with 2 fighter squads and 2 bomber squads. Based on the low number and type of ships they're sending, I think they will be an effective counter. Trying it now.

I don't understand why Advent forces still protect the planets when they were defeated. Is the idea that when an AI is defeated, they just can't build any more, but their existing forces still defend? I also keep seeing TEC rebels jump from another star system directly to a planet and attack my extractors and world. What's up with that?

51 Replies 158,475 Views

So far, my re-refined fleet has been unstoppable. It re-took the planet that I bombarded earlier, jumped to the capital world and crushed everything with no losses. It is currently sweeping across the star system, taking more planets, and there have been no complications. The fleet consists of: 1 Akkan, 2 Kols, 2 Dunovs, and 2 Dreadnoughts. They are joined by 50 carriers with over 70 bomber squads and at least 20 fighter squads, 20 flak frigates, 20 LRM frigates, 20 heavy cruisers, and 20 med

Does it require one? No. Are there a lot of people who would enjoy one? Yes. I'm also a big fan of Command and Conquer and I agree there are many differences between it and Sins of a Solar Empire. I don't think those differences mean Sins should never have a campaign. According to a Q/A with Ironclad Games, a campaign will come, but not for a while (not in Sins 1 or in Rebellion though Rebellion will have some scenarios). I think Ironclad has the right idea to keep Sins 1 focu
