Thanks Yarlen.

Cool. Well give me time, buddy. I'll try to catch up and hopefully be another good challenge or ally for you. I'm determined to become a better player and hopefully master each empire. My final thoughts are, I plan to lean on the non-capitals a lot more, but I will still probably have a high number of capitals at my beck and call (even on an unfair difficulty), but we'll see. The next few months of developing new strategies and experimenting at different levels may produce
the AI just isn't very good in the long-term to begin with, so this really doesn't mean much.
At the risk of rebuke, I've found that even an Easy AI has been a challenge, but that's probably because I've only been playing for a few months (not solid due to work and other interests). As to the value of a cap heavy force, I still have to disagree (or agree to disagree) in light of the success I've had with the
Swiss Knight and Graham, I just saw your screenshots, and wow. Very cool! Thanks for posting that.
We've put Sins on a 65" HDTV at PAX Prime.
Wow! I read that and the first thing I said was, "I want." I really wish I was at PAX Prime to see that! I was telling a friend about how excited I am to play Sins on a big screen TV (next year). He shrugged and said if it were possible to play Sins on a movie theater screen then he would be excited. He's played it on a big screen TV, but I haven't. I
Capital ships are not heavy firepower, they are actually relatively low firepower by cost until you've gained many levels.
I was substituting the term heavy ships with heavy firepower. Heavy ships in terms of hull and shield strength (attrition), but also superior firepower (yes, except against higher level caps, but also not against a high number of bomber squads, or a fleet of heavy cruisers) with the added benefit of special
That makes sense. I just had a thought. A self-assessment suggests that I rely heavily on my caps which is something I do in other strategy games (I rely on heavy firepower). I need to diversify my strengths. For my next campaign, I plan to focus less on my caps and more on frigates and cruisers. I'm not against going cap-heavy. I'll still have strategies that involve a strong capital front, but I need to become more familiar with non-capital ships and their different st
Nice. I keep wondering what a capital ship like the Kol would look like, zoomed in, on a large screen.
I was wondering, for those with the big screen monitor or TV, what is the largest screen you've played Sins on? The girlfriend and I plan to get a big screen TV next year. I also might budget for a bigger computer monitor. Right now, I'm trying to imagine what Sins would look like on an extremely large screen.
Darvin is making a good point in that you could probably do anything at that point and still win.
I understand. Although the last campaign I fought ended with a very big battle and, while I had more than enough capital ships to deliver a crushing blow, so did they. I probably would have won without the Dunovs, but not without taking some serious losses. In other words, they hit me pretty hard. I'm a fan of anything th
Honestly, by that stage anything will work against the AI and I find the Dunov redundant. The Dunov needs to bring something relevant to the game... and really its EMP is the only thing that fits the bill.
That's okay that you're not a fan. I have had a very good experience with the Dunov. As Wrath pointed out, two of them can make a world of difference. I've been in several large engagements and the combined recharge of
Sometimes I build hundreds of ships and have them spell my name. I'm kidding. On a serious note, another one that I thought of is my planet naming convention. Unless it already has a name that I like, I'll name my planets according to movies and books that I enjoy, popular places on Earth, and other names that I like. For example, the ice planet Hoth from Star Wars, desert planet Arakkis from Dune, or the terran planet Arborlon from Shannara.
Does anyone have any strange quirks in Sins of a Solar Empire? Here are some examples of my oddball behavior. I could only think of three. 1. There are specific character portraits that I like a lot for enemy empires so I often (not always) leave and return to the setup screen until those portraits are available. I'll post the three I like later. 2. If my home star has a really horrible name, I'll sometimes quit and restart the entire game, just to get a
Cool, thanks. So generic karma DOES exist! [e digicons]:P[/e]
Wow, apparently my forum understanding is covered in noob sauce, because I was giving people karma points, thinking it was a general "hey, thanks, you're awesome," which it is, but it's not general. It's specific to the topic you're giving the thumbs up on. So my comments look like they apply to that specific topic which in some cases might be confusing. I didn't have time to send a karma point to everyone I wanted to, but for those who got one and wonder, sorry commu
In another topic , I asked the community about the Dunov and got some good feedback. I wanted to suggest two things for the Dunov (and for other empire support caps if applicable) in Rebellion, Sins 2, or both: 1. The Dunov is tweaked to allow a sense of priority when the shield restore ability is set to auto. So if there are two ships taking fire, the ship with the lowest shield strength would be the priority.<b
Thanks Ryat! That's what I thought. On the Dunov question, thanks Wrath. I appreciate it. It might be nice to see the Dunovs prioritize in Rebellion. Given how long this topic is, I better open a new one with that suggestion.
I was out of town last Thursday, got back on Sunday, but haven't had time to play until last night. When I re-visited an enemy world that I hadn’t captured because I blew past it to attack the enemy's homeworld, I discovered that they designated that planet as their new homeworld. It was guarded by a very strong fleet which took at least 10 or 15 minutes to wipe out. I found myself focus firing on a capital ship, sometimes tasking my bomber wings to bring down a separate cap, an
Yeah, that's a good point, GoaFan. I hate to say all or none though. I like having super weapons, but having a say as to whether it's an infinite amount or large amount. Perhaps limit it to three options which would be easier to agree upon: a low number, high number, and infinite number. The low number could be 6 and high number could be 12, but that's just an idea.
It doesn't really bother me that an AI or human can build several super weapons. I myself have built more than one Novalith cannon before (2 in my last campaign). I still want to suggest for Rebellion a pregame option that allows a limit to be set. I've seen other games do something like this. If disabled, the number of super weapons would be unlimited as it is now. If enabled, the player would specify how many can be created per empire. I would probably choose 4 on so

It will be interesting to see the stats on it.
remember, they also released a promotional video for SOASE Entrenchment
Cool. Long ago, I saw a promotional video for Sins, and it was probably the one you're referring to.
I'm also looking forward to commanding a Titan (great asset), but I'm especially looking forward to fighting one (great challenge). The Titan will present another interesting level of threat management. Every time I think of the Titan, I envision two of them locked in battle. It would be epic to see several fleets engaging one another, with strike craft all over the place, fighting in the shadows of two or more huge, high armored and heavily armed warships, unleashing wave
Ironclad may already be planning this, but I wanted to suggest a strong promotional video for Rebellion and Sins of a Solar Empire 2. I hate to suggest this for Rebellion as it would add further delay (another week or month perhaps), but I think it would be a good idea. Coridane runs for cover as fans open fire. At the very least, for Sins 2. Weapon fire stops. Whew. I started a topic once about how it bug
