I keep trying to tell people I have been using them successfully against carriers in the beta. Now they will learn. =) The one caveat is you have to keep them away from any LRM's and HC's the opponent might have. If the opponent has a lot, then you probably shouldn't use them.

Yeah, it usually comes down to carriers for me as well. But you have to back the carriers up with something. Flak does kill fighters and thin out their numbers, but you have to build a heck of a lot of it. The problem I have with Flak is it is almost useless once there are no more strikecraft to kill, and it can't kill the carriers themselves. I have asked people a few times since 1.095 if they wanted to test out the ships with me, and no one has, so I'm just not cer

1.05 was about LRF and and eventual HC spam. 1.1 is going to be about either having or being able to protect yourself from Carriers. Carrier spam will be beatable by mixed fleets, but with their versatility, they will probably become the ship of choice for a lot of people. In general, single ship spam is not that great in 1.1, because everything has a counter now. It makes for a much more interesting game.
Cykur, do you think the expansions will actually get played online? I'm under the impression that the primary purpose of the expansions was to throw a bone out to the people who only play single player and who get bored playing against the predictable AI(but who haven't figured out that the way to enjoy a better game is to play online).
I will certainly play Entrenchment online, unless the new strategies cause the game to be very drawn out and not fun an

I think the trailer looks pretty awesome. The only comments I have is the background "Enterprise" under construction looked kinda like an art backdrop, not a ship. I think they made good choices with the actors, they have an all star cast, and I can see how many of them would work. It IS in fact a reboot.....so things will be different, but that is ok.
Yeah, I take your point about Entrenchment. However unfortunatley I won't be getting Entrenchment nor the other so called expansions. In the UK sins costs about £27.50, which is the price of many PC games. Add on another £27.50 for all three expansions, and you are looking at a very expensive single 'PC' game...the cost of two PC games in the UK.
You never bought an expansion before? Most strategy games have them when they are successful

I think the ability to host is what really hurt the online community....hopefully some of those people trickle back with the Alloy enhancement in 1.1. I think the rebalancing and other fixes are just gravy for the veterans. =) Entrenchment will probably be the factor that actually pulls people back to the game and revitilzes it.
An Idea would be to transfer the serial to a diff account for a fee of course. Stardock makes money on it. and they are still supporting the Serial number / license that was purchased originally. To make it legit both users would have to agree to the switcch so you don't have people stealing your license.
You have to pay a customer service person to be available to make these kind of transactions.
The trailer looked excellent despite my dislike of the new ship, and the Abercrombie and Finch models....err i mean the new crew.
All of those new actors are good actors...so it won't be their fault if the movie is bad. Yeah, Time Travel seems to be everybodies thing now. You can't seem to have a SciFi without it.
Oh don't even get me started on the new strategies Entrenchment brings out...
Blair, if we join the Entrenchment beta, you guys going to join us for some....balance testing? [e digicons]}:)[/e]

Well...I think modernizing a cherished game and adding to it is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you don't destroy it along the way, ala MoO3. For how old it is, MoO2 is still a good strategy game to this day, it just doesn't play that well on my XP system. I would certainly check out a MoO4 that played with the same system but added more content, better graphics, and solid Multiplayer. You might check out Sword of the Stars (and GalCiv II, if you haven't pl
One idea I saw floated earlier that I liked was to have some powerful structures that could only be built on moons. Basically, they would give some planets a new type of structure slot that wasn't available on every planet. It would be a way of adding new, powerful planetary structures, but restricting how many each civilization could have.
This is a great idea. There could be a few "Moon facilities" for each race with different applications, Military, Eco
Anyways is there a viable strategy to counter RA? I mean apart from blowing the living day lights out of the player before they have chance to mass it.....
In 1.05 it was extraodinarily hard to fight RA once it was going if you didn't have your own RA. The way you do it is by crippling your opponent's worlds and infrastructure while trying to hold off his fleets. It is possible, I've done it several times, but it is not for the faint of heart. A lot of

YES! I have thought the exact same thing! If it is one ship, it should say something like "Hostile scout incoming" Several ships it should say, "Hostile ships incoming" Tons of Ships, it should say, "Hostile Fleet Incoming" (with a little urgency in the inflection) In defense of the developers, I think this is a little tricky to implement, because ships don't all warp at once, and the way the logic probably works

Hehe, Star Control 3 was one of the few games I returned immediately, the next day. I stood in the store arguing with the manager that it was garbage until they finally gave me a store credit to buy something else. MoO3 I was too depressed to return...I think I just gave it to someone. I still marvel that no one has built a true sequel to MoO 2. The closest thing to it is Galciv2, which has its own unique style and is different.

Look, I concede EULA's are not perfect...it is a catch-22, they exist because it is so easy to abuse software. Retailers are supposed to accept returns, but none of them do because people abuse the system left and right. Not to beat the Mercedes comparison to death, but you can't copy a Mercedes onto a USB drive and make another Mercedes. We all know how software works if we are familiar with computers. In this day and age, if you want to use software online or get s
