I can't take credit for this little tip...but I don't remember the thread where I got this idea (I think it was mentioned by Sergey) I started a new game: Civ name, First Galactic Bank My objective: win with no war and no military...which was working great until I doscovered 41 Corvettes! I began on a tiny map, rare, with a vacant yellow star and a minor race in my sector. Settings on normal just to try it out...I'll try a harder setting later on. MY government: Populists.
Alzandrion
Buy a Dell? :notsure:
BuzuBuzu...that last idea was very cool. Cheeeeezy...but cool! :HOT:
My internet is down at home...or I would have joined an empire by now... DAMN YOU COMCAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know I don't have any medals...but lemme contribute anyway: First, I think that those little faces showing if you play mostly evil, good, or neutral should be turned into similarly colored medals. Second, I think that medals showing the TYPE of win that you mostly go after would be cool. In other words, alliance, beyond human, military, cultural, etc. would all have their own medal as well, and will change when you change your play style.
Hmm...never considered a game like that... Super high diplomacy, and selling bulk money for monthly installments? I think I'm ready for my next game. I'll name my people the FIRST GALACTIC SOL BANK! FGSB for short. Should be interesting to see how much revenue I can generate in a month.
I kinda ruled out alliance victory because, as of yet...I've never been able to get to "close" with only 2 races left. But then again, I totally screwed my win in that game by going to war pre-maturely. I've decided to take your advice, 30 military - 10 social - 60 research. I'm going to max out research as best I can and build cultural starbases and see what happens. Thanks for the input!
Here's the scenario...tell me what you would do in this situation: I'm neutral, tiny rare map, all species are dead or assimilated except me and the Torian. We are friendly right now, but the settings are on PAINFUL...so our relations may not last too long. We have equal planets, equal tech, equal everything for the most part. Military level is at Dreadnought. Torians just beat me to the Terraformer...but I own EVERY trade good. How should I defeat the Torians? I
On maso, so far the only way I can have a chance to win is on the larger maps with rare planets. It buys me time to build up tech in my distant corner until I have a colonized every possible planet in my area. Then later I randomly deploy the freighters to establish trade with whom ever I can find. I can't seem to win the arms race though. And because of that, war always happens. Even if it doesn't make it to my sectors for awhile, it knowcks out my trade, income, and economy.
Well...until Frogboy gives some input...I'm gonna place my bets that the AI will surrender to which ever race is in overall 1st place. I have seen that pattern in the most recent games...never really paid much attention to it until a few relate threads ago. Could be coincidence. But that is surrender, which has little to do with cultural dominance.
I actually have an in-home office. I have 3 PC's and a laptop, and I scored a 7. I think I'm into group orgies with no emotional attachment...but I really can't tell... :notsure:
Even when you pay, they want more. Then you have no loot to build a military. Tribute is just CODE ORANGE to let you know that somebody is about to kick your ass. Refuse paying and set your military slider to 100%...that's the only way to survive. I'm curious to know what makes a minor race a minor and a major race a major...what specifically makes them so handicapped???
Typo up above...I meant to say "not necessarily a win"
One of my few gripes of GalCiv is achieving the climax of society...but now necessarily a win. I pride myself in neglecting to ally with that one species of alien just because I don't wanna end the game...I like to play on, gain more bc, mop the map with Excaliburs (when I make it that far). Here's my idea...remember Sim City? Remember how you were able to toggle off/on natural disasters? Turning on natural disasters before play should increase the difficulty (and you
I'm a firm believer that Frogboy and the rest of the crew are on a journey to develop the "perfect" game. This is a game in a dynamic state of constant evolution. Stardock began with a good idea and put it into effect. What sets them apart from the rest??? Stardock, much like in-game Terran civilization, are reckless, adaptable, the gaming equivalent of a democracy, and not intimidated by others that have been around for much longer than themselves. Kudos to Stardock
I don't think it makes sense to "know" how much an alien race is profiting through trade with us. I DO THINK it would make for another great espoinage feature, which is severly lacking.
*crossing my fingers* ;)
Not to pirate ideas from other games...but espionage is an element of war and security in real life...so it would apply to ANY game. Here's some more basic ideas: Bribe: Pay bc to a foreign govorner monthly to turn to your side and take the system with him. Takes alot of bc and a long time...kinda like culture turning. Intelligence: Gain more information on an enemy military locations. (map opens up to reveal them) Lifts the black shroud. Counter-Intelligenc
I would love a scrap feature. I hate disbanding because I'm a firm believer that RECYCLING WORKS!!! I hate handing ships over to the enemy also. (All aliens are enemies, ally or not) Ships should have some kind of a bc value when disbanding. Nothing big...just SOMETHING.
Are you playing scattered, clusters, rare, abundant planets? At the transition from med. to large, the only things I really change are my starting bonuses. It's about this time I find it useful to take some extra range/speed in the beginning. Of course, if you're playing abundant clusters...then you wouldn't really need the bonuses too much. On large maps...I favor having the bulk of my planets in just one or two sectors so I can "consolidate" my starbases a
I heard somewhere that it's not how many planets you colonize...but the quality of each. I used to colonize anything 12 or higher...but after watching the AI, now I do not colonize anything but yellow stars (15 PQ or higher) Should I change my tactic? If so...why? :notsure:
On a scientific level...I could understand a star being purple. I'm sure there's a chemist out there with enough jarble to make something up and still be 50% correct. As far as high PQ planets go...now I know why the morale always goes up to 100% after terraforming...with everything being so damn BRIGHT AND COLORFUL...it's like Easter everyday!
OMFG! I didn't even know 1.04 was out! I didn't see it in the download list!!!! Now I can't wait to get outta work! :CONGRAT:
I gotta do that more often...I never relocate my population...just never thought of it. Does it make a noticable difference?
I've gotten 9000 bc for 1 month already...it's the most so far. I like my cash up front :HOT:
