A group of friends and I a couple times a week spend a couple hours playing video games. For about a year we played Civilization 4 and its various expansion packs, but eventually we moved on to something else for a little variety. We played Sins of a Solar Empire for about a month or two but it wasn't our cup of tea, then played a WW2 sim, IL2 Sturmovik, for a few months, and then this summer we switched to Age of Wonders Shadow Magic. AoWSM is s

I don't see why they'd go Sins style? They already have Sins for that. I have to disagree with you on the multiplayer, though. I actually bought GC2 and it's first expansion to support Stardock, but I can't say I've played more than 20 minutes of it. It's not that I don't think it's a great game, it probably is, but gaming is a social thing for me. If I can't play with my friends, it doesn't hold much appeal to me. But that's alright, not every game can be targetted at my demograph

-New Race (whatever is chasing Vasari) -Extended tech trees -More decisions on planetary upgrades. Maybe have a few upgrades per planet that you can only build one -or- the other, etc. -Additional cap ship for each race -Additional ways to customize cap ships as they level. Like planetary upgrades, have decisions where, as they go from L11->15 (did I mention more cap ship levels? :)) they can pick 1 of two or three upgrades, and the others are forever unavailable to them. <
Speaking of which......boutiques are another trend that really bothers me. What happened to large, full service STORES? Is a tiny 15 x 15 foot room with one wall or one shelf for each platform really all the industry can offer me as a customer? Maybe they expect everyone to shop online. I don't know. If games are as popular as they appear to be, why aren't there any major retailers with large floor spaces? Then again, that may be more a sign of the economy than the status of the industry.

With the prevalence of broadband, PC gaming is rapidly shifting to digital distribution rather than brick and mortar stores. It makes sense, getting good shelf space at the B&M stores can be very costly. Even NDP, the people whose statistics people quote as 'proof' PC gaming is dying, is on record as saying the PC games industry is very healthy. The problem is that it's shifted far towards digital distribution, and they are not currently able to track those sales.

Christopher Nolan kinda nixed the Penguin idea. He said he likes the Penguin and all, but there's just not a way to make him fit with the dark, gritty, 'realistic' approach of these films.
Major fail, the beta should have been released days ago
On behalf of the developers, bite me. :P It's a free, massive update to a game that's been out half a year. It's also still mid-July, so chill, Winston.

Don't confuse online play with the number of multiplayer users. I never purchased GalCiv2. Why? Because gaming for me is social, the only time I game is on the weekends when I get together with my friends. When Sins came out, I snapped it up in a heartbeat, as did 5 of my other friends. That's 6 sold units that are played exclusively multiplayer, but never show up on ICO. If Sins were single player only, I wouldn't have much interest in it. I know I'm not the only o

I've seen some odd out of sync things as well. For instance, I'll be fighting a battle around a planet against a computer AI, but on my friends' screen the computer's fleet had retreated. Really odd, but I've never been able to reproduce it consistently. It does seem to lead to crashes, though, and oftentimes you have to go back through several autosaves before finding one where things are still aligned properly. Glad you were able to capture the minidump, and hopefully you've got th

It's not a matter of time necessarily, it's a matter of development resources, which consist of time, money, and other things. Take a look at Crysis sales to see how well (poorly) thing go when you market towards the graphics whores. Don't get me wrong, I have a top of the line system because I lurve me some sweet graphics, but I also understand that it's not a very intelligent market to sink your limited development resources into. Brad laid it out real nice and clear in that
Compared to SC, which is also known for huge armies, the details are missing.
SC was probably the most visually bland and uninspired game I've seen on any platform in the past 5-10 years. On top of that, the engine runs like shit. So yea, I've compared. Sins is the clear winner in that comparison. As for CoH... quite nice looking, but we're talking a small fraction of the units displayed.

Depends on what I'm trying to damage. Early on, I'm trying to win the skirmish, so I target the supporting frigates. You can wipe them out quickly, and the amount of damage their fleet puts out rapidly starts to decline. In later battles, numbers are much greater and it's a waste to focus fire on a frigate. What I want to take out at this point is a high-level capital ship, as that's much harder to replace than some frigates and cruisers.

I lurve bombers. Just person preference and based on my playstyle, but I typically most almost all bombers with only a few fighters to help keep them safe. Bombers typically do well against the heavier ships and buildings. Other than the obvious like heavy cruisers, I like to use them to spike an enemy capital ship or to blow one up as it tries to run. It can be hard to catch a fleet with a standard fleet of your own, but strikecraft have no problem closing the gap and laying down so
