Right now we let people download something like 5 megs before requiring an account. Maybe we need to lower that to 1 megabyte.
Frogboy
It's mostly DesktopX, WindowBlinds, and Wallpapers. Some iconpackager. The rest is fairly modest. It would be interesting to shut down the wallpaper section during the day for non-customers (i.e. during peek hours) and see what that would do.
Hmm. Quartz is the music engine. I wonder how many people are getting that. Can you do me a favor and play with the sound off. I'm curious as to whether that would solve problems.
Since we moved to the subscription system we've been able to directly see how much bandwidth is used by subscribers/customers versus non-customers/non-subscribers. Specifically: Anyone who has purchased Object Desktop or any Stardock product or a WinCustomize subscription or is an apprentice or higher goes to a different high speed server than those who have not. The problem is, the people who have not bought anything at all are now consuming about 9 megabits per second.<br
There should be a new build avaiable on Drengin.net now. It has the minor races tweaked down and some random events and a number of bug fixes.
That'll be in the next beta.
Good stuff. Will see about making changes bassed on this.
A new version of ObjectDock is available. This is a new build (as of today, as opposed to a buggy version that got leaked over the weekend). ObjectDock is a task manager / program launcher that does it with style. The new beta has these features: + Ability to have really really big
I have an iMac and I still think it's fun to make my PC look similar to one.
Well said. Incidentally, there are events being put into the game that are exceedingly rare (i.e. you may never even see them unless you play a lot of games) where there is a moral revolution in your civilization (or in foreign evil ones).
Yes. It's coming.
Workshelf borrows a lot from the NeXTStep OS which is where the tabbed launchpad concept came from (including Stardock's own Tab LaunchPad).
This is a very very annoying bug. You can work around it with Ctrl-R.
Beginning of that year.
Yes, if you can get SmartException and tell us what data it gives you we can learn where it crashed. What were you doign at the time of the crash?
It has been in there since beta 1.
The minor races use the new AI. The other civlizations use the old one. This build, a beta, was designed to see which AI is better.
Did you download the updated build from Saturday? These crashes concern me because with Saturday's build I don't get any crashes now and I've been playing it constantly.

I won't code the AI to go after transports specifically unless there's no other choice. I know that's not realistic but believe me, if I did it, it would be cause for much pain and aggravation. Even if Terror Stars win, there will still be some sort of bulk unit moving feature, just not flag ships. I.e. put all shipos in the same spot, click on a button to group them all at once and send them to a particular destination and they'll all move at the same speed on the same square.
This is a great example of the system working as designed. I am not sure why people think they are doing the site a favor by using its bandwidth. If this user had simply registered WindowBlinds he would not face these problems.
That version is buggy. I would't use it, it's also much slower. That's why we didn't release it.
He means how do you actually get the component. I'm not sure why it would say expired. non-betas don't expire. I'd suggest emailing [email protected]. They'll help you out. I'm sure they get these kinds of issues all the time.
The next build will be on Wednesday. I think everyone here is taking Thu and Fri off. I know I am. Thanks lucky jack! ;)
