That's a pretty cool idea.
Perhaps it was a bit technical, [\quote] Hey, lots of us are a bunch of nerds. The more technical the better btw, which niece/nephew turned out to be the monkey?
Well, we DO expect perfection. That's why we are here helping to beat the thing into shape so that by the time final release rolls around it WILL be perfect.
Don't forget that we aren't talking about the present day. We are talking about 20, 30 years or more from now. Think about how far our rocket technology progressed from 1945 to 1975. You seriously think that in 30 years the Chinese are still going to be that far behind in rocketry? You can't tell me that it is cheaper to build a new satellite and put it in orbit than it is for them to shoot one down. First of all, we have to build the satellite (which isn't cheap), then we have to put
Means they got hit with the radiation bomb (Marza special ability) and are taking damage over time.
In an online game, an enemy was chasing me and there were also pirates present. He was fighting with the pirates so I thought I could mooch some XP by just hanging out while he destroyed them but it didn't seem to work. So it would seem that the game is aware of who (as in which player) made the kill and awards XP based on that. Then again I could have been mistaken - don't rule that possibility out
thing is that we can easily put up two satellites for every one they shoot down, even if they went for a shotgun aproach it wouldnt accomplish much.
... are you saying that it is more expensive for them to take out a satellite than it is for us to put one up? I would find that incredibly hard to believe.
You forget that for any significant energy gathering these satelites will have to be placed in very high orbit or even around other planets. Unlikely the
my full desk top compy barly can do it. that would be because your full desk comp is made of barley
Or potatoes.
Well, I think that the real question here is economic feasibility - just as they said in the article. If it really does turn out to be better/cheaper than ground-based solar arrays then I say go for it. Most of our military action these days is focused in small countries that aren't able to shoot at our satellites. If space-based solar power helps those operations then it is worth it. The way I see it, if we get into a war with China it will likely be over access to middle-eastern oil.
I'd love to but Monday - Thursday I have class until 10pm Pacific (5am GMT )... And Thursday wouldn't work anyways since I have to go to work 2 hours after that at midnight. Weekends would be better for me but it would have to be early afternoon because I have work at midnight. 17 units and 2 jobs are bad for gaming schedules <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/SadAngry.gif" bord
If you're going to be a turd, go lie in the lawn! While having a positive attitude won't always make things better, it will annoy enough people to be worthwhile. Never take Fifi to Chinatown.
As an aside, anyone know where I can find a printable version of the technologies that can be researched, the ships & their stats, etc? I feel really lost starting out with the tech tree. There really isn't one. Since the game is still in beta it is changing on a regular basis so any printed version would quickly be out of date and inaccurate. I'm sure that once the game hits final release there will be all sorts of nice stuff like that <img src="http://
I haven't really played with it so I can't speak as to whether or not it is really any better but one thing that REALLY annoyed me was that the file types that it uses are totally and completely incompatible with previous versions - so in order to use a file made with 2007 you need to have 2007. So if your grandpa plans on sending any of these documents to other people he'd better make sure that they have 2007 too or that he can figure out how to make it use a backwards-compatible file format (I
Agreed here as well. I have a similar problem with the siege frigate's diving right in to bomb a hostile planet with total disregard to enemy forces in the area. I know they aren't designed for fighting but as it is they charge past their protective fleet (who stop to shoot at stuff) right into the enemies defenses. This, along with the enemy AI prioritizing them as targets, tends to get them killed rather quickly. I'd prefer that they be a little more hesitant to charge in and auto-bomb the pla
Most anti capital ship fire should miss... In reality such ships wouldn't get close enough so that every shot hit and there was no chance of dodging. You'd hold back and then try to match your aim at long range against their own while your ship dodged and weaved to avoid getting hit. A big ship like this would pretty much always get hit and would be impossible to hide. Which means it would get targeted at long range and be bombarded successful at range.</
Science points are generated per tick like credits and are generated by research stations. The more stations you have , the more points per tick. Research , only costs Science Points. Science points can be traded and possibly even bought on the blackmarket. I like this a lot. Others have made good points for not eliminating the other resource costs for research but maybe this idea could replace the hard # of research stations requirement. Instead of
Green stars are just very old stars. They started life as a yellow star... yellow like cheese... but like cheese, with age they start to mold and turn green. So there you have it: green stars aren't ridiculous.
I think he means the mysterious orange button (looks orange to me anyways).
Yea, so far as I know it doesn't send it. And to me it seems very silly to ask you about creating the file because many of the times where I have had a crash I was unable to get out of the game to say "yes." I had to press the reset button to get my computer back, which of course meant losing the minidump.
The rewind is not going to happen for technical reasons. It would be a tremendous amount of work on their part (trust me, I asked over a year ago ). But Blair did suggest that you could potentially bump back and forth on savepoints... Beyond that, I notice that when you press ctrl+shift+z to make the UI go away, the little red orbs from the Akkan's targeting ability remain which can really mess
Found a problem with the AI continuing to add to my bounty AFTER it destroyed/colonized the pirate asteroid. ... that's not necessarily a bad thing. Human players/other AI's might be influenced by bounties as well. Of course in a 1v1 you are absolutely right, there would be no point, but otherwise there still might be something to gain.
It would be helpful if those areas that can be researched more than once showed 1:2 or 1:3 all the time so I don't have to hover over the tech to see if there is more research in that area to be done. Yea, this bugged me at first too. Then I realized that they color-coded it! Green number means there is more to be researched.
Exploit: If you assign enemy ships to a group you retain the ability to see their stats even when they are in an area you don't have vision of.
In the new beta the hotkey for setting a rally point changed from G to F. But the command for unsetting it is still ctrl + G.
Beta 4 will be focused on multiplayer gameplay testing and will include another race. YeeHaw!
