I guess it is subjective. By "got better" I meant that you were able to get the same content without paying money, and they keep making more of it. You rarely had to specifically grind Deeds, except the kill x amount ones. All the rest you always picked up naturally by using your skills, doing quests.. the only other one you had to try for was the exploration. Everything else just happened. Personally I think it's an awesome system to net you store credits.

Most non-Korean MMOs do not have grind until you get to the level cap. WoW, LoTRO, etc all have a gigantic amount of quests and you don't even do all of them because you just outlevel them due to the sheer number. So I guess what's your definition of accomplishment? If you want to gain 5 levels in 4 hours every time you play, no MMO is going to accommodate that past the newbie levels. If your accomplishment is getting stuff done, then pretty much every Western MMO gives you that.

Yeah, if I remember right at the end your best bet was always good ole bullets. Forget energy weapons or gauss, because the enemies were highly resistant to everything, and bullets were more plentiful and cheaper.

I am pretty much in complete agreement with Krazikarl. That said, I don't want the company to go under because that just benefits nobody. They just need to put out a good game after a terrible streak of pretty big disappointments.

Oh it only the mission design in Tactics was better. The graphics are nice, the engine is nice, but the gear scaling is so way off! You finally get the iconic Gauss Rifle towards the end and it does nothing against the enemies you're fighting. :P

The normal engines way out of grav well bug dates all the way back to beta.. that was a fun one. It has been mostly squashed and is very rare. If I remember right, one of the causes was when ships were chasing trade ships that jumped out. I guess the game wasn't cancelling their movement orders and they tried to slowboat it to the next grav well :P Wasn't there another ability with the nano jammer bug? I don't remember what it is now, but it was also going off on its own whenever the

Amazingly awesome site.. keep in mind some things turn out a little NSFW-ish (but text only obviously).
As Brad and Brian mentioned, Ironclad and Stardock have a fair bit of new stuff coming for Sins in the way of updates, patches and so forth. One area of concern is the memory and CPU eaten up by Space Mines. I'd like to hear some suggestions on how we can keep mines in the game without consuming so many resources (and if we can make them more fun that'd be great too). Keep in mind that they need to be racially distinct. If you have any ideas, let me know in this thread

The server is actually hosted by SD.. though you should be able to toss an email to [email protected] in case their monitoring tools are going wonky.

It's not in the Impulse options. Impulse Now is a separate tray app. Right click on the icon in the task bar, and you will be able to disable the popups there. You should also be able to disable Impulse Now from starting up automatically as well, I believe.

This mod should work with any version of any game (Sins, Entrench, Diplo) because these specific research files and have never changed since the game's release :) Just note that if there's anyone trying to get it into the base Sins, you'll need to copy the entire GameInfo folder from the install to your mod folder, then overwrite with these. Entrenchment and Diplomacy use an improved modding system where only the changed files need to be in the mod folder.

Of course. I just meant if your opponent doesn't want to lose a planet to your culture, it's very easy for him to make it so and with enough caps in orbit it'll be impossible. I'm assuming the OP was talking about culture in single player context, since I don't imagine very many people try to overthrow planets with culture in MP, and in SP the AI often ends up with caps where your culture is hitting.
I'm playing on a "medium" map. The one with the star "Matar." and six AI. =P
This kind of slowdown sounds like what happens when all the AI needs choke the CPU processing power (the game engine was developed before multicore CPUs became common, so it only uses one core for all AI processing). Normally this just happens on the really large maps since the AI has to look at many more planets constantly. It shouldn't

Diplomacy requires and builds on top of Entrenchment, so when you're playing Diplomacy, you get all of the Entrenchment content along with the new Diplomacy stuff.

They only shoot at structures in passing, their primary target is always the planet. Make sure to throw the government upgrade on your starbase to prevent loss of colony from bombardment, and they'll happily sit there and bomb the planet while you demolish the rest of the pirate fleet and then pick 'em off with fighters. :)
Culture - Culture advantages don't seem to be very effective in cultural warfare. I'm not sure why it would be useful to go up the Culture tech tree for extra 5% increments when basically one culture centre is all it takes to protect a planet. Perhaps these should also be regarded as useless civilian techs? If the game allowed a culture war, so that 2 centres against one had almost the same effect as one against none, then

Do you have any mods enabled? If the attacking ships actually say "Rebels", it's exclusively a TEC research tech, it's the only way Rebel ships show up on the map.

Bunched up Advent defenses with all the proper research are nearly impossible for AI and pirate fleets to break. Everything lasts long enough for the Transcendia's Meteor Storm to nuke whatever doesn't belong near it. :P

In addition to maintaining access to the researched building and hull types, you also need to maintain labs to *fire* your superwearpons, even if you already built them.
They meant if you were playing more than 1v1 to make sure it is locked until you get a little better.
To elaborate: in a pure FFA game (everyone on a separate team with unlocked teams) the AI is designed to gang up on the human player (how much is largely determined by AI difficulty and how well the player is doing in the overall match - the better you do the more the AI will try and attack you at the same time). Locking teams disables formation of cease fires a
The supposedly helpful strategic mode does absolutely nothing for me. Instead of getting decent graphics you get some overlapping triangles. You can't see anything in strategic mode.
Not on the maps in the demo, which are tiny. Assuming SupCom2 follows its predesessor and gets some really huge maps, the strategic mode will be handy for overviewing the entire map.
The voice acting for all of this is unbearable.
Yes. :P It gets worse in the next mission. Story thing I'm not too worried about, there's the intro movie and I don't think the experimental carrier mission is actually the first in the campaign (judging by the mission pips on the launch screen).
