True, but if your spending 1000 a pop on inhibitors that early, your opponent can build 12 scouts for every 3 inhibiters you build. If you get to crazy building you may be providing him with the means to destroy them and bypassing them anyway, seriously wounding you in the process.

Ok, we've had the game for a few days now and alot of you have had (like me) the chance to play it alot more. I know that when I first started playing I hated that the AI could jump through gravwells. I know that a ton of you felt the same way. How do you feel about jumping through grav wells now that we have some perspective? My thoughts: I can say that I hated this at first, but now... I think I don't want it to go away. My fleets already take a long time to move

Wow, this "realism" is a hot topic, I can barely find a thread where it isn't discussed in some fashion. I guess I'm not understanding this claim of "realism" in a science fiction game. The current explanation of weak areas in space which connect some planets is as realistic as the idea that they could have a jump drive that allows FTL travel. So than I guess we have to lose FTL travel (unless you have a realistic approach? Maybe Subspace, Hyperspace or an Alcubierre

An empire with the ability to produce pathways between two solar bodies is going to link two vital core planets within the same system as a matter of urgency, and any removal of this option through 'storyline' game mechanics such as lagrange points etc. also seems immensely flawed. They aren't created, they appear to be naturally occuring circumstances that can be taken advantage of to travel faster than light. So have lanes that don't go to the mo

I am all for much more in depth diplomacy. However, I don't think alliances should be permamenent, seems to care bear-ish to me. Here is what I would like to see and I think this would work for you. First of all, players should have an alignment rating (i.e. good /evil) you start the game neutral. As you play the game the choices you make cause you to be good or evil. Here is a few numbers to show what I mean: +20 = Holy 0 = Neutral -20 = Pure Evil Seeking

Gotta say, I like all the backgrounds, maybe not the orange one so much... Ever have the glitch where you only see the black galaxy? I don't like it and I really thought that I would, its really hard to see your units.

in that way you could define borders to your empire, a bit like GalCiv2. Maybe have your buildable area be anywhere inside your ring of cultural influence which would extend out from your planets and press against opposing culture (now it really sounds like GalCiv). no... this would ruin any usefulness of a blitzkrieg battlestyle. one of my personal favorites Agreed, that is not the game I am looking for with Sin

I have little doubt that phase lanes are a bad idea. I personally disagree, though I see where you are coming from and I understand your thinking on the matter. First of all I will say this, I agree with you in that I think space should be open. However, not in the way that you described, unless I misread your post. I believe that the current system to an extent is necessary for the sake of game play. The space you maneuver in is much to lar

Just played my first single player (OK I'm a bit behind). Not bad start I must say. Unfortunately it seems to crash the first time I wipe out a race. That is a feature, the A.I. is so realistic that it crashes your PC out of spite when you beat it.

People are always nice when you give them money. Go give money to Sony and see how nice they are to you. This communication we are having with Stardock and Ironclad is really great. Its a great game but already we are finding little bugs and whatnot, Its outrageous that Beta 1 has bugs, what kinda crap are they trying to pull on us! May I ask what you expected?

Things like Phase Inhibitors are decently fast to build as is compared to move/combat speed. Do you really want the AI building a new inhibitor every time you try to retreat? Agreed, the build times are strategically chosen, imagine if during a fight your opponent could power build fighter bays and defensive cannons 1 at a time but very quickly, currently it gives you time to deal with an upcoming structure.

KOL beam weapons firing at crazy angles is irritating. I agree with the above post, beam weapons can fire at crazy angles as long as the beams are coming from outside the ship. If the whole ship is a giant beam cannon than I would understand that. What does kinda bug me is that the turrets on the ships don't track, they just point straight ahead yet fire opposite directions. Also there is a ship that has a spinal mounted cannon on it, the ship looks a

I have been messing around with this, trying to force my ships to all jump at the exact same time. Currently I can get it to work right, it just takes micro management. If you order all your ships to move to an edge and then order the jump it will work pretty well. However this still does not make them all jump at the same time. You have to move each ship so that its next to the edge and not waiting in line. Here is what I was thinking. What if there was a second ring outside the gra

3) When zooming into an Asteroid I see the main asteroid and all the mine-able ones in the area, however if I click the main asteroid a bunch of small decorative asteroids appear, floating in space around the area, if I zoom out a bit they remain (using the mouse wheel) but if I zoom in (mouse wheel) they disappear until I click the main asteroid again. I have not tested other methods of zooming to see if the results are the same (tested with the latest patch). <b

The Sky is Falling! Crap, I am a chicken little... I suggest keeping these issues in mind and revisiting them later. I'll try to keep my trap shut until Multiplayer beta when this stuff can really be tested as to its effectiveness.

I am not saying tuck it away. Make a thread as a list of potential problems and petition for it to be sticky'd. But what I am saying is don't get all bent out shape by trying to balance the TEC against the TEC. I won't get bent out of shape... but I think TEC is going to balanced against itself pretty much no matter what. You both have the exact same options... I think that is about as balanced as you get. I just dont want one of the

but not plausible I agree with you, its not plausible, but possible. The invincability portion of it would work just fine, either by having a longer cool down, causing the cool down to affect all ships in the vicinty, making it force your units to retreat etc... There are still months and months of time to work these issues out. Its good that we bring these issues up though, we shouldn't tuck them away becuase we don't have all the info. Early

While I might enjoy it (in an evil way) the other player may conclude differently and dimiss a great game. I should have worded that differently, or you should have read it differently. I meant that SoaSE is a "great game" not that the round we played was a good game, it would be a shallow win for me and a potentially game breaking loss for the opponent who may thusly pass up this (SoaSE) Great Game. thats hardly rel

I read somewhere that you are no longer getting a new machine. I wondered if this was due to cost, you had mentioned $600. Here is what I could put together for a bit cheaper than that, hopefully it will give you some room to negotiate. I would like to see you commenting on beta for yourself Its not a super PC or anything but it will do. I got a standard Power Supply nothing fancy but not s

So if I get into a multiplayer game as TEC vs TEC they shouldn't be balanced? I should go straight for that strategy in case he uses it first, repeat ad nauseum until his eventual demise? While I might enjoy it (in an evil way) the other player may conclude differently and dimiss a great game. Obviously the game will change and we dont have all the facts. And currently with no multi-player your only wrecking the game for yourself. Still, its good to find "cheap" tactics like this on

So the ability for the Vasari to harvest resources from your worlds from space is unfair too right? If by harvesting resources you mean become immune to damage and shutting down my entire war machine whilst you pound the crap out of me, then yes, I would have to say unfair. Unless the two other races have an ability that disrupts armistice then the ability would seem to be unfair, I just dominated the AI on hard using this. My idea is t

I really loving this beta so far, thank you guys, this is a great beta. A few of things I have noticed... 1) I have a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard which has the option on it to disable the windows button so that you don't accidentally pull yourself out of a game. However if I press the windows key while its disabled on the keyboard the game remains on the screen, however it will not respond to any commands. I can scroll around the universe but it won't accept any command inpu
