Gnord, you want to set the logging setting as Annatar mentioned. I'd also suggest using the developer exe, which should have a lot more useful error messages pop up directly.

Photoshop and XSI are the main tools that the artists use. Make sure you can save out .tga and .dds formats, I think there is a special plugin for Photoshop.
The particle forge problem is probably because you don't have .NET Framework 2.0 installed. I'm not sure about updates, you should be able to launch the same way. What are you clicking on? Icon on the desktop?
Sins itself does not use the registry at all, so far as I'm aware. That UserData key must be full of recently used files or something.
RevFireStarter: Unless I'm mistaken, your video card is way below min-spec for sins. On the ATI page it says that it only supports directx 7 and has max 32 MB.
Yes, it would be good to check if it is actually launching or not using the task manager. Then we can figure out whether it is starting and not showing up, or just not starting at all.
Try opening the file in notepad and changing the version number to 1.
Apparently they do stack yes.
Hey folks, This issue should not show up in 1.05. If it continues, please send us savegames.
evlmonkeys: If you're getting instant defeat when you start up your maps you're probably putting them in the wrong folder. You need to put them in the Galaxy folder which is under Program Files/Stardock/TotalGaming/Sins
Have you tried launching the game directly? Go to Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire in your start menu, and choose Sins of a Solar Empire... what happens? We'll get you sorted out.
The next version of GalaxyForge will allow you to connect the inter-star wormholes.
Thanks. It's fixed now internally - next edition will not have that problem.
Dessant: Do a google search for "Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package". It should be pretty easy to find.
What he said. Also, check to make sure that you're not accidentally modifying a file in the wrong folder.
Yah, you might have turned on cinematic mode or turned off icons in the user interface menu by mistake.
If you download the Forge Tools at https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/downloads.aspx there are a few documentation files in .pdf format, one of which is supposed to be a basic modding guide.
You can't have multiple mods running simultaneously, you'd have to merge them. Check out Danman's 7 Deadly Sins mod to get a whole pile of mods running together.
You'll have to add a new research subject (they all start with RESEARCHSUBJECT_), and then connect it through the player entity as Helioforge said.
Not in 1.05.
Well, the basic premise is that you are the leader of a race of sentient asteroids, leading your asteroid people from asteroid to asteroid among the stars, with only small asteroid cannons to defend yourself against another race of slightly larger and slightly less sentient asteroids. I think the basic concept is pretty solid, but we have to iron out some of the details.
Do you have .NET Framework 2.0 installed?
You connect them the normal way with a phase lane, then you select the phase lane and change its type (in the Toolbox) to Wormhole. If you're referring to interstellar wormholes, the 1.05 version of GalaxyForge can't do this - it'll be in 1.1. But you can add them manually, look at the bottom of the Voruk's Labyrinth map for details.
I don't think you could do something like that in the player entity file Dragonsbane. There are a few variables you could tweak, but most of it could be done through a specialized research subject, ie Race X has a big culture bonus researchable at the first level.
