Sounds something like an updated Populous. Cool idea but like others have said already, you may want to think about enlisting some help. A team of developers can push ideas around and really flesh things out. The finished product will benefit from it.

Wow! That is really fast. How in the world will I find time to get in ample amount of playtime with Twilight of the Arnor before SoaSE 1.1 comes out? :P
Did I correctly hear a rumor that Bungie was going to break away from Microsoft? They did a while ago
Ugh! It had to be a GameSpot link... I used to work for CNET Networks and have vowed to never go to any of their sites. But for you, Annatar, I'll make an exception... :) Oh cool. So it is true. Interesting.
Remember the days of Freelancer and Fable? Remember how we were promised a ton of things when they came out... Then Microsoft stepped in and made them what they are today.I don't know about Freelancer, but in the case of Fable, I'd say Peter Molyneux deserves the blame for that. Ever since the Black & White fiasco, he has earned himself a reputation for over-promising and under-delivering.
Totally. And I'm going to be burned by Molyneux again when Fable 2 comes out, I'm

Even if my interest in Sins has waned by the time this comes out, when it does I am so going to play it. Sorry wife and kids, daddy's going to kill some rebel scum tonight :)
If only Ascendancy had a brain. The AI was so weak that I would usually give the AI players a few hundred turn head start to make it at all challenging.
It was a very fun game but once you researched plasma cannon it was pretty much over. The range and damage of that gave you such an advantage and the AI never seemed to catch up. Other favs are GalCiv2, MoO2, and the Warlords series (notably Warlords II and Warlords IV). I still play them.

Ah yes, Annatar, I see what you mean. "This game sucks" is Zellio's way of saying "This game rules!." I can now see how "SUCK, SUCK, SUCK!" actually means "AWESOME, STUPENDOUS, UNEQUIVOCALLY THE BEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED (because of the amount of time that it takes from my life)". And if the OP doesn't mean that then he should. Because it is. And it does. Suck, I mean (in the aforementioned AWESOME, STUPENDOUS, UNEQUIVOCALLY THE BEST GAME... aw, you get the point).

I'm kind of late to this thread but,IMHO, most any of the suggestions would make for an excellent expansion. One thing I didn't see is space monsters. I'd like to see some space creatures guarding the occasional planet/asteroid. I'm thinking something like the NPC ships but bigger and badder - maybe something that just can't be defeated at the early stage of the game. I guess it could be comparable to an NPC cap ship that could go toe-to-toe with your own cap ship (without any support fleet)
Aww, and here I was thinking that the Vasari really were the creators of the Snathi.
Ha! I thought of the Snathi immediately and was, like, "No way!" Instead, I've been blinded by the Care Bear stare :(

The funny thing about this game, to me at least, is that as soon as I think I'm getting the hang of something I have to go back and rethink, rework, and regroup. I need to figure out the optimal fleet size to leave at the worlds around the wormholes to effectively defend them. I can bounce them between planets as needed. Stationing them inside my repair grid is a must so I'm thinking LRM and flak mostly. I've also kicked the idea around of stationing an Akkan at the most important pl
rather no campaign then a sucky 1 (takes time to make a good .... give it time... they know we want a campaign )
Nailed it. The devs know that at least some of us would like to see a campaign. I feel confident that we'll get a campaign and some end game animations in future iterations. Until then it's sandbox all the way. Oh man, Ascendancy was such a great game :CONGRAT:

Hahaha! Good stuff, people. OP, your post was a little flamey and it was met with some good ol' fashion sarcasm. I'm still giggling. As has been pointed out several times already, all RTS games borrow a little from each other. WC3 is a great game so it should be expected that certain elements will make their way into later incarnations of the RTS genre. Think of it as flattery for a great game. The two wormholes that are given me the most trouble both have three phase lanes. Each time an attack comes it normally involves two AI (the same two Vasari) or even three fleets (TEC jumps in for fun sometimes). I do have those planets spammed with repair platforms, hangar bays, and canons. And they will hold off an attack for a while. But the attack won't break off until a fleet shows up to shoo them off. I operate with a three-fleet system as part of my late-game strategy

I'm playing a 5-star map with 10 Hard AIs. I started out in a solar system with four other opponents so I knew my starting location was not ideal. I made friendly with my neighbors and set out to conquer opponents in other solar systems (perhaps my first [maybe biggest] blunder of the game). I guess it's the role-player in me but I always want to make peace with my fellow humans (I play human). The solar system I'm in has four wormholes in it and they all are attached to

I've given up looking for them. I suppose it is a planetary bonus of some type. I've read that there is a good chance that they are on pirate bases. I've never found them.

This may come off as asinine, and I came up with the idea at first sarcastically, but why couldn't we setup a section for belly-aching or whining and just not include those posts in the Recent Posts section? The haters and ranters can congregate there and keep their whining to themselves. The occasional stalwart could even go in there from time to time when they feel like pointing out the positive (which inevitably, I guess, would be like picking a fight). Then again, that wouldn't ke

I don't want to deviate from the current topic of moderators, but I would like to post a quick thanks to Annatar for such a well-constructed post. I post a bit and lurk a whole lot more. Over the past, oh, ten days or so the general attitude on the forums has been so hostile and sniping. I've posted less and have even visited less. I have also noticed (wrongly perhaps) that the later the hour (I'm in EDT) the more angry the posts become. So I don't even check the forums at night. I

So okay, it's not the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But I was under the impression that the force pursuing the Vasari was rather mysterious. If it was a nanite swarm or super Vasari wouldn't someone speak up, like, "Uh, fellas, I have an idea what is on our tails. Remember that weapon X experiment we tried out and went haywire? Yeah, I bet that's it." I'm not ruling it out but I'm also not ready to jump on the bandwagon. I've read some good ideas but nothing that really seems l

Well, on larger maps (which is what I tend to play), ship vision is only going to show you my border worlds. As my empire expands so too does my ship-building capacity. After the early game, I won't be producing any more ships at any of my core worlds (unless something catastrophic happens at one of my border worlds). As I expand I plop down a frigate factory (or two or three). So ship vision would not grant planet vision of my core worlds after my initial expansion. And if I'm on t
