Unlocking NOVA bombs as a tech may instead be entered into the game as "relics" on planets. And then only in limited supply once they are found. Perhaps 5 out of 40 planets on a map could contain a cache. A message to your enemies saying that you have found nova bombs would also spice things up ;)

What about the clans - house kodiak etc. These were also a threat. I also remember in one episode a giant graveyard where highguard ships were re-activated, trapped/captured by the enemy during the war and attempted to be turned. Their was a few types here. Also their was some huge siege/dreadnaught that was raiding sectors, a left over ship that had gone a little crazy. What I really want is a game similar to Klingon Academy thats more like starshatter with a nice large Star Destroyer bridge to stroll around. This would give the feeling of a large ship in combat. Starshatter can do this as it can give cap ships cockpits if you wish. But have not seen them yet. Only used the basic capital ship hud. Be aware also that the starshatter demo is very old iirc. Crusader Scott: I too was looking for what you are looking for. I can recommend Klingon Academy if you can get it. I managed to get a full version sent to me by a mate on a forum like this. Here are some newer games that do "space combat simulation" Starshatter: the gathering storm This game is amazing and lets you command squadrons of capital ships or fly fighters all in a dynamic campaign or even coop missions if you wish. I highly recommend it.

I have homeworld2 and 1 working on my 8800gt under vista. there are a few things you have to do to get it working: a) disable UAC b) disable DEP (data execution prevention) manually with command line c) make sure you have the latest video drivers d) Run as administrator IIRC thats all I had to do. Been running it since vista came out like this. In fact I played it today with a friend. We used the TFS mod. But I really like the AFF mod.... <
I think i had a mod installed when i upgraded to the beta... it will not load already tried removing all the mod directories
This demo is great. Enjoying it greatly. CAnnot wait to see the ships textured and other races added with all of the flavour that brings.
I know how to make gravity wells bigger, for larger battles. However have not seen this behavior where the grav well has not been changed. U sure thats not straight up in the Z axis?
Their was a key that enabled human players to move in the Z axis. It was taken out in a recent patch. However I am hoping it will make its re-appearance with the new micro expansion. In fact if I check the latest Beta it is probably already back in.

id say they will put all the new stuff they want in game in preparation for a singleplayer expansion by using the mini-addons first.
I am actually hoping that the new mini addon for planet defence allows you to defend planets in the Z axis
that would be cool, capturing the AI gear. However I think you need to actually send ships to the planet you want to capture and dock or something. That way other players who hear the AI has been defeated can race to take a cut, after all somebody may already be attacking from another angle when everything goes your colour. stress were there any fighters at all used by any races in star trek. I mean real carrier based fighters like the ones in the sins defence hangars? Just thinking that hangar defences may need to be something else more like, frigate defences?
