Good ideas, but...I think that our priorities lie elsewhere. For example, getting running examples of ships in-engine out to those that are interested. Giving i nert's brilliant models some textures worthy of Games Workshop painting traditions. Deciding which and how many factions we want, and finalizing their fleet lists. Are we sure that we can even DO the kind of modifications necessary to make moving factories, etc? I think the official list of ships for I nert is a big one
Something akin to the Protoss Mothership from SC2?
Perhaps a more accurate analogy would be the motherships from Homeworld...massive, hulking things that pretty much are self-contained factories/planets/etc on their own.
did anyone think that this might get us in trouble with GW? i dont know constructive criticism?
Surely they wouldnt' object to a bunch of people throwing together a smattering of 3D models that just happened to look like their BFG ships... :) I don't think it's something we need to worry about, at least at this point.
Well...in the spirit of preserving the engine, would it work to just make them MUCh faster and MUCH more maneuverable than the other ships? Also, I'm kind of dubious about that article about Craftworlds. Was that in BFG mag as well, or is it a house rule? I suppose that much of the craftworlds are contained within the webway, so it could make sense.
Nice pdf...that's too good to be legal.:)
BTW, Emperial gaurd !!!!! that would be a cooool mod!
Imperial Navy is, for all intents and purposes, imperial guard. The guard is forbidden by ancient (read: 20,000 years from now or more) decrees to maintain its own navy. Though when they drop troops onto planets, you can rest assured that there will be some Guard down there ;)
Hmm...considering their lack of ship variety, is it really worth having space marines as a seperate faction? They only have one battleship, one cruiser, and a smattering of relatively useless destroyers. I know that the SM is one of the most integral factions in 40k, but it's not so much in BFG. One way to factor them in would be to say that hte space marines are the Imperial superspecial. You get free fleets of pretty good ships. Alternatively, they're just separate classes of ships w
I have an idea for a deviant necron playing style...a la Dawn of War... Necrons essentially are requisitioning their troops by pulling them off of random planets, right? I recall hearing of an incident in which a necron ship was sitting dormant on a planet, and one day it just up and flew off. The Necron superspecial could be an ability somewhat like RA where ships occasionally fly out of planets and zip back to your homeworld where you can command them, giving you an endless trickle of
I wasn't being sarcastic Keilworth
My existance has been validated! Okay, maybe that was a bit sarcastic... Do we have a set date for the feature list? "We" being your adoring audience, of course.
Thanks. That should help A LOT. One little question: how is planetary invasion going to work? One idea is to use those teeny little boxes that fly out of colony ships, and just have the entire surface of the planet being semi-blanketed with miniscule versions of the TEC planetary bombardment graphic.
Thank you, Kiernyc...if you were being sarcastic, I deserved it, if you weren't, I'm flattered! Also, doesn't the Emperor bow come pre-goofed? The Oberon is essentially an Emperor with a launch bay refitted with lance decks. It's not just Oberons, eithre. I'm also having trouble finding Mars and Overlord battlecruisers too. Do you think they stopped making the minis?
Ahh... that makes a lot of sense. This has given me other ideas:Adeptus Mechanicus ship could be builder for Imperium. Earth Caste ship could be builder for Tau (though you'd have to make that model up...lol I love the Earth Caste note my icon is a crabby Earth Caste guy... )
The Machine Cult could be an entire faction by themselves; they have their own line of minis! Which is somewhat irksome, as they're getting new models and I still can't find a bloody Oberon battlesh
Ah! I see. Is chaos going to have actual factories, or just big warp portals? With enough particle effects you could probably create an awesome effect that looks like a warp portal.
N1ce! Can you actually get those in BFG?
The thing about necrons is that they have to divide their gauss particle whip strength at their targets, rather than getting set batteries. While that means that a Carin will be zapping away at one ship at a time with its full 20 GPW strength, it will get no other shots. Compare that to an Imperial Dominator cruiser, wich gets two weapons batteries of str 12 each, for a total of firepower 24. Yes, I know I'm not factoring the Cairn's lightning arcs, but regardless, their big thing in BFG is fire
The Tau actually have pretty terrible warp jump tech. They're sluggish even compared to an Emperor battleship. (just in terms of background/facts, not gameplay)
As far as I am aware, placing money can have nothing to do with pirates...players can make money off slaughtering each otehr too. This may not be a bug at all...
The necrons don't even use warp portals...it's just ZING and they're off. It scares the living shit out of the Eldar and Imperium. Hell, even the 'nids use the warp! Krezzy stuff. Is there going to be a way to factor in the Astronomican into Imperial ships?
Hey, did you realize that Roks is an anagram of Orks? I can't believe I just noticed that...WAY too much scrabble can do crazy things to you... Anyway. How exactly is inter-planet travel going to work? Phase lanes and warp portals are not exactly similar...
Not to be antagonistic (those are some good ideas), but BFG also treats minefields as regular squadrons. Methinks we're thinking too much about roks...
Maybe Roks should be ships where you just send them into a grav well and they waste some infrastructure on a planet and expending themselves in the process, rather than making them an actual ship (which they by no means are).
And the fact that you have to choose differant combinations of weapons for each and every hull...I may not know my way around a binary tree, but I do know my way around the basics of the Iron Engine and I know that if those silly appendages on the Jurna Fabricator's don't do anything, you modelling/animating chaps will be hard-pressed to get results out of a Tyranid bioship. Orks should be an interesting endeavor...how do you plan on handling Roks?
This Minidump guy has become quite the parasite to this whole community. How long has he been doing this?
QQ newbs. Homeworld 2 FTW =P
Nostalgia. Nostalgia I agree with, but nostalgia nonetheless.
That would be very helpful. Good idea, Kruelgor. Also: do the races' differant strikecraft have idiosyncrisies enough to justify putting them up on the chart as well?
