I didn't play the game, I have no info on it... yet let me point something out: scouts cost a mere fraction of a phase gate or lab, and can be built in mere seconds.
The problem with that argument is that when a vasari player gets RA and has multiple phase gates, money isn't an issue any longer. All he'd spend money on at that point is research and getting fleet size upgrade. For him to have to rebuild 1 or 2 labs isn't a big deal. Keep in mind that 10 scouts

Result of our last game, which was "official" The game minidumped and autosave and autoreplay didn't save ANYTHING for anybody. This has never happened to us before. SO, here's where we were standing at the time of the minidump HuntingX had 10 phase and had a maxed fleet up to the 5th fleet. TEN PHASE GATES. He was maxed with enforcers, sentinels, and carriers. Obviously, he was number 1 in fleet. astax had 15 kodiaks and some lrms and whatnot I had a small army
Indeed, Vanechka. Maybe I'll try explaining it differently why it's imbalanced... In a normal game, assuming no player is rushing tech and they are consistently attacking each other, both players' technologies will improve as the game goes by. The difference is, the Vasari player's end game tech is an I-WIN button. The other races, do not have such a tech. Stopping them from getting the tech altogether is not a counter and it's not even always viable to do so. Peopl
italia559 did you even bother reading the thread at all? Seems to be a trend for people to see the topic then immediately hit the reply button. no no, cast malice BEFORE you cast brilliance. Malice button first. Cleansing button second. From my tests, one case some ships got damaged, in the other case they were not. They also had the exact same formation and all variables were constant (both situations were loaded form a save file). I should also add that I've also tested it's propagation onto structures and that also works. edit: I just saw your false positive comment. I'll have to test more to see how much dama
Odd, I find the Crusader superior to the other heavies, especially after a little research, and ESPECIALLY after ruthlessness is researched...
Advent HC deals the most damage in the game when fully upgraded (not accounting for caps). They really synergize well with the bread and butter advent cap ship combo, mothership + radiance. malice + the crusaders = lots of aoe damage very quickly. The radiance prevents the mothership from popping and can also lay out it's showst
it definately works. I've tested in single player. I saved right before I fired off my malice and brilliance. The first test was without malice. The second was reloaded and tested again with malice. There was a very very noticable difference. So noticable in fact, that I managed to kill a computer on unfair mode using just 2 motherships and 3 radiances (and no other units at all, except to defend against annoying siege frigate spam)
Quoting myself from another thread on the exact same issue Here's the problems with RA. An ability is overpowered if the only way to "counter" it is to prevent it from getting out. That's admitting that once it's out, it's unstoppable. To all you saying "just rush him", clearly have no idea what you're talking about or even what game balance is. Uh-oh, did you hear that? It's OFFICIAL! Itharus is officially tired of people crying about RA, as opposed to what I can only assume was unofficially before. Itharus, did you even bother reading the thread? People aren't simply complaining about RA because they lost to it; they're complaining, giving suggestions, and identifying what's broken about it. In your extremely long winded post, you ramble on without ever touching on the key points of imbalance on RA. The fact is

Personally, I think the timer is a nice option as well. The only thing I'm against regarding setting up a timer is the opportunity cost to implement it. I'd prefer the devs focus on game balance before adding any bells and whistles.
I recall that you recently stated, on another thread, that those wins were against newbies ... my point being that I wonder if you would have any success with your illuminating spamming against competent ICO players (such as HuntingX). I recall watching that replay concerning Disciples spamming...
Illuminator spam doesn't work terribly well against experienced players for several reasons. 1 - they can't really focus fire, which is the best way to reduce
Flaks where fine against lrms and other ships. They where and still are extremely overpowered against strike craft.
I agree with you that strikecraft aren't as strong as they should be and are underpowered. However, also consider that strikecraft are out of flak range for the majority of the time and that carriers continue to build them even when shot down. I think their first step was toning down LRMs. They'll probably follow this by looking at strikecraft and
I just picked this game up yesterday. Seems quite fun although I haven't had time to really sink my teeth into it. Anyone else play C&C 3 who might get this?
Honestly, I think this is a step in a good direction. I'm sure the original design of the game was for flaks to be used to just take out strikecraft and not as tanks to go up against LRMs. I'm quite certain that IronClad/Stardock are trying to move the units in the direction that they originally envisioned their usage. They want people to build carriers/scouts to kill LRMs They want people to build flak to kill strikecraft They want people to build light frigates to kill carri
I'm not going to disagree that all things considered, Advent is pretty underpowered. However, when you get their unit combos and if you know how to play them well, they become very strong. The thing with Advent which is slightly different from the other races is that you really need multiple cap ships to do very well. Start with the radiance and get it to level 6 as quickly as possible. Get the mothership soon after that. If an enemy fleet attacks you, use your radiance to draw enem
Currently, there is no clue as to how long an online game will last. An online game could last an hour, or it could last for days. This increases the rate at which players quit in the middle of games.
If there were a ladder system, I think people would probably play small - medium maps. The average length of a game on those maps for me has been between 1-3 hours. In any game I played where all players were very good, it lasted about 1 hour. In a competitive match, the
One thing slightly off-topic I'd like to add - there is no 'freedom of speech' here. If you get banned or censored, something which they are hesitant to do without good reason, you have no right to fair trial. This forum, sins IRC, and ICO are all privately owned and operated. Free speech does not apply to privately owned forums/assemblies. This isn't a problem if your posts are thoughtful/constructive/respectful. However, if you love playing "Mr. Anonymous Jackass Online (tm)", kno
Hey guys, I'm not sure what your technology looks like on your end, but it would be really cool if you could merge IRC and ICO together. Obviously accounts are handled in a completely different manner on IRC and people can use any name so that needs to be addressed. One way to get around this would be to prefix and color code names with IRC/ICO. Since ICO has multiple chat rooms, IRC users could be limited to one certain Lobby channel. Not only is this nice b
I'm one of the best at micro in this game..
Until there's a ladder, I don't think anybody is qualified to say that.
Saying that you can prevent RA from happening by destroying labs is a moot point. The whole point of this thread is to discuss the absolute dominating power of RA once matured. Once they have several gates up and their fleet from gates matches yours in supply, it's game over. There's no way to turn the battle around. No other race has a tech, that when matured, is essentially an automatic win. RA can only really be countered by another RA. Blindly saying that it c
quote]Take away gates and what are vas left with? they havr the smallest fleet size worst econ etc.. What will you give them in place to balance?
Vasari has great military. Subverters are one of the best support units. When you micro your fleet well, you can make enemy ships bunch up at times (especially kodiaks) and a single subverter can shut a huge portion of their fleet. Phase missiles are the best weapon upgrade in the game. Again, combined with
RA is bs. My mates and I have stopped playing pretty much till it gets fixed. It hurts.
Agreed - I only play small and medium maps. It's considerably harder (but not impossible) to pull RA off on 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 on those maps
Insurgency is mostly useless. The amount of ships that spawn aren't that threatening. Just send a couple ships to that planet to distract them, build a few turrets/repair stations and they're gone. All it is is harassment and not that great harassment at that. RA, however, isn't harassment - it's assault. I should also mention that to a vasari player, insurgency is less than harassment - it's free exp. Ships can warp from any phase gate to another so the insurgency gets ins
