OK seriously... I just mentioned how LRM's still beat light frigates and this gets posted https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304529/page/1/#1653365 Are they intentionally trying to confuse newcomers to Sins? If you're new to this game, know that LRM > light frigs > flak > LRM. Sure, it's not quite that simple, and LRM has a lot more utility than the other ships, but this is currently the golden rule in the game.
This thread has to be a joke.
No, I think he's quite serious. Rexus was even quoting some MAGOG clan stuff when he was screaming at me how great disciples are against LRM's yesterday. No matter how hard I tried to be civil and tell him he's wrong, he refused to listen to reason.
See, this is the EXACT thing I'm addressing https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/304456 LRMs kill light frigs period. Obviously, if you completely outnumber the LRMs with your light frigs you'll win, but against a competent player, that's not going to happen. Please stop spreading your brand of 'truthiness'. Test it against good players before concluding it as a valid counter. I just had a game last night with a guy named Rexus who was utterly convinced that discip
Advent is a little weird. Their big showstopping power comes from levelling their cap ships. Malice + brilliance = lots and lots of pain for them. It may even result in wiping out their entire fleet. By that means, you almost want them to keep attacking you while you stay on the defensive. That way, you get some very nice experience for your ship as long as they don't kill you. They're the toughest race to play well and their end game research is not nearly as good as the other rac
the whole point was to make it easier, not to add another task I must periodically complete. If I turn off the autocast, I'll probably forget to do it for a few minutes while I'm microing... better to leave it on and scoop up the RA ships like normal
What they should do is not have it autocast when you have max fleet. It wastes the antimatter and cooldown timer and you get no units. It's because of this that I do it manually.
I think there is one thing that is slightly misleading and it also depends on personal perception. That is, that the game is advertised as a "real time 4X" game For many people, when they think of a 4x game, they think of MoO 1/2, gal civ, etc. That is, games that give you really really huge tech trees, custom ships which use the various "ingredients" you've gained from reseach, and advanced diplomacy. These games have tremendous amounts of strategy because there's a heck of a lot of
Inability to balance this game for both single player and multiplayer is a simple fact of logic. You cannot balance this game when played by the AI and at the same time, when played by people.
Disclaimer: I am a game developer for EA (yes, a hated company...) and I do have to deal with issues like balance and things like that in various games. That said, unit balance is NOT mutually exclusive to good AI. I have no idea where you're getting this from. The point
While not nearly having the same level of differences as Starcraft, there are many things about each faction, beyond shuffled tech trees, that make them unique. Many of these only become apparent once you learn the mechanics of the game. Keep in mind that the capitol ships are totally different for each race, save their general role. Some differences -Advent has the best unit combos. Their support ships serve to disable enemies as well as keep your ships alive for a long
You underestimate the forum experience & resilience of Stardock CEO "Frogboy". I really don't believe that any of the petty « bitching », on this forum, succeeds in affecting his morale & strategic stamina in the least.
Money talks and this game is apparently a (I'm making a note here) huge success. Stardock's business strategy has always been to establish close contact with the community. The Fraser brothers have been in the industry long enough to know tha
There are so many devious ways to achieve the condition of the first rule
Ever since I got these earplugs, everything has been going so well for me!
Q doesn't select everything in the grav well; it casts the returning armada skill for the currently selected phase gate. Q, W, E, R, T A, S, D, F, G each button maps to the corresponding position in the UI for the selected unit. For example, for all ships, f is fleet mode (i think). A is attack, Q colonize for colony ships, etc etc.
I guess I must be playing a different game. My LRM spam works as well as ever, and TEC Jav spam is even more effective thanks to the new black market change.
Exactly. I don't remember the exact numbers for hull/shield/armor/etc for the LRM. Regardless, my LRM's are most certainly not loosing to light frigs! Furthermore, their main asset, their incredible damage, is unchanged that much I know.
complaint: phase gates should be able to set rally points.
I think people are just mad because their Javelis LRM Frigate spam isn't working as well as it did before the patch.
Oh no, please don't spread that. LRM spam is still just as effective in small maps as it was before. The price hike has only hurt advent. If you're talking about large maps, LRM spam was never very effective. Edit: Kruelgor and [MAGOG]Kruelgor... you guys aren't the same people are you?
0.1% of Stardock customers (the very competitive & competent elite) should not spoil the relaxed fun for the 99.9% who don't have the time & powerdrive to become proficient experts at Sins.
Let's please not let this thread tumble down the same rocky cliff as those other balance threads. All I'm saying is that people need to test things themselves whenever they hear any strategy. Sure they can argue about he theory, but before they draw solid conclusions, please please t
Would you know if they have plans for something like a "real-time" mode with that? Where I don't have to keep hitting the turn button, but instead I can hit an easy "stop" button or something? Just curious and I can understand if you are prohibitted from answering do to an NDA.
This is what I had originally picture sins to be. Basically Moo/GalCiv without a turn button. I do like RTS games anyways, so I'm still having fun with it but it would have been nice to really ge
(Your « "Elite" normal players » expression might be viewed as an oxymoron by my linguistics teacher : a tiny detail ... even though I do admit that I do not perceive how one can be « elite » and « normal » at the same time.)
That's why the "Elite" was in quotes. They are elite only in their own perception of themselves; their true ability when measured against the rest of the population isn't anything approaching excellence. Mind you, many of the so called eli
Now, how about saving the money, not buying the population cap, and spending it on new planet's resource extractors/infrastructure upgrades sooner. I understand upgrading your home planet cap in a really small map, but it still seems like a waste. Or as TEC, how about building a civ research lab and researching the cheaper common buildings upgrade. Then you're saving credits on other expansion. Just throwin ideas up there. I don't agree with blindly following the trend in buying crystal o
this game was trumpeted to be 4X and it's no X, it's just another RTS with the same 3 vaugely differing factions, and "frigates" and "capitol ships" instead of infantry and tanks. Thanks, but I've already got Dawn of War, and it does it better.
Bingo. This is what I've been saying. This game was never designed with huge scale empire building. It was only marketed as a 4x game but it's definately not one. Sorceresss, if you agree with Habadacus, then you're agreeing th
Anyways, once I sort of just 'let go' and played it more as a RTS,
It's great that you realize this. This game was marketed as a RT4x game, but it's really just an RTS with a very, very large map. I wish people would stop kidding themselves. I love 4x games, but accepting that this isn't really a "true" RT4x game doesn't make it any less fun.
I played a game last night where someone was completely convinced that LRMs now are trash and that even disciples can easily beat them. When I tried to tell him otherwise, that LRMs are still very very good, he proceeded to make wild claims about various things he'd read on the forums. The fact is, the forums have a heck of a lot of posts that are completely untrue. A lot of people are claiming various things to be completely unbalanced/unbalanced when in reality, it's closer to the opp
Malice/Brilliance kills all of them instantly and... No, they don't.
You have no idea how incredibly powerful malice/brilliance is. It will literally wipe clean everyone in malice range except for heavy cruisers and cap ships. The heavy cruisers will be left with very little HP. The more units clustered up, the stronger it is, as the malice gets propagation from more units. It's REALLY strong.
It might be smarter to just make flak fr
Another thing I'd love to see once they get the various features and balance fixed is a chat log. There's been times where text is flying too quickly and gets pushed off the screen before I finish reading it. There's also some bugs which completely wipe out all the player chat (even the few lines that are on your screen). Not a big deal in competitive matches since we use vent, but very annoying in random public games.
If people aren't going to show us even a basic level of respect, why would they think we would want to cater to them?

That sort of thing tends to make us (or any normal human being) want to simply ignore those kinds of people.
Hi Frogboy, I think it's great that you post on this forum and talk about your opinions on things. However, as a professional, it's good to keep in mind to not disregard a message simply on the basis of how it's delivered.
While phase out is incredibly good against noobs, it's not quite the total cap killer against experienced players. The main reason it kills cap ships against people who don't know how to play or don't micro is because it can stop a phase jump. When the ship phases back in, it 'forgets' the command it was trying to do and will foolishly engage your army. All you need to do is keep clicking your cap ship to phase jump even while it's phased out. As soon as it phases in, it will attempt
