I was in sarcasm mode for much of that post if you missed it. However I do seriously believe that a push for a DLC-heavy sales model will never work out in the customers favour, which is why I had to poke fun at Brad. The game industry is not going to start a price war with itself; greedy DLC schemes will not get punished as hard as you seem to think. Not when everyone starts doing it. EA, Activision and such will set a price with their AAA titles for major DLC add-ons
In an age where you're used to spending only five, six bucks for a game, it's really hard to go back to the PC and pay 60 bucks for a game, especially if it's becoming increasingly loaded with features and content you'll never make use of. Like what, the game itself?! I can't remember the last time I bought a video game and said, "Gee, look at all this content I don't need! Sure wish the game was half as long, with recycled co
Sweet, it's been so long since a fresh RTS I wanted to play came out. As Tridus says, if they can get some more engine enhancements, and some special effect upgrades, in there it'll be good to go. So when's it out? This summer? LATE 2010?! [e digicons]X([/e]
From what I understand, a discount will be for Trinity owners. Any chance something will ever get done about siege frigates? There's basically no reason to use them over simply getting another cap ship right now. I guess the trick is how to buff them without making them OP?
That's, unfortunately, the way the pirates work. They will go after people who have miniscule or zero bounty, and the only way to redirect them is to make someone else have slightly more bounty. I requested long ago a system where pirate raids are sporadic rather than periodic, and their attacks are entirely based on current bounty (ie, will not attack unless bounty reaches a minimum threshold, but will gladly attack multiple players if
Successful 'free' to play games are usually designed in such a way that you can't really progress in the game without paying. They get people hooked by making things SEEM reasonable early on, but once you hit a certain point you have to choose between paying or insane grinding. People rationalize this by thinking it's no different than spending money on other games, forgetting the entire reason they started was because it was supposed to be entirely free. Any free to play

Took the old 'tank war' system and perfected it. Fun as hell with friends. NWN1 sucked; weak gameplay, weak story, graphics were pretty average. It was only the editor that kept it on life support. It wasn't until the Underdark ex
Never understood why Oblivion and FO3 are so highly rated. Oblivion was terrible when not modded to hell, and FO3 was Oblivion with guns and a less interesting (in terms on quests, NPCs, etc) world. They aren't horrible games, but better than games like X-Com, Civ4, Starcraft? No way. Totally agreed on LFD being anywhere in the top 100. It was mediocre at best, clearly released unfinished and abandoned within a year for the full price expansion sequel. No
Speaking of autocast superweapons, could the default state of superweapons be set to autocast OFF? It's annoying as hell to build one, then have the first shot get fired at random. I suggested changing up the Vasari weapons a while back as well. If you ever want to balance the Visari teching path, you need to provide some incentive to research pulse and wave weapons. IMO do something like: -Fighters on wave -Flak on pulse -Move wave weapon tec

If i missed something. Please forgive me .
To add to this, someone noticed Advent HCs were currently set to 12 cap in beta 1, instead of 10. I don't think this was an intended change.
Envoy/Pact System Pacts were okay. Gave you more reasons to get civilian labs. Some weren't very well thought out though. Envoys however largely sucked, with only a couple abilities being worthwhile. Advent one was particularly useless. Both could be fine with some rebalancing. Revamped Pirates I like the idea of a nasty neutral force, but Diplomacy took them from one extreme to the other making them once again a non-issue as e
At this point the problem is more bombers in general, not scramble bombers.
In fairness, nobody would take a passive as the first ability as in any RTS or aRPG these are meant to be supplement the unit/character. Support caps are also not meant to be primary 'heroes'. Dunov could still use more buffs, but not to its combat damage. That said battleships getting owned that badly is not good at all. Carriers should be below a battleship or assault cap in fighting ability, with their advantage being long range firepower (aka strike craft) and ha
Got the beta the other day to try it out, and I have to say I'm pretty sold on it right now. Most of my complaints from the initial release have been addressed, and with IG there's even a bit a base building in the game again. Only thing that seems crazy OP so far are those IG Catachan guys. Seem way OOT for a tier 1 unit.
I still LOL hard when publishers blame PC gamers for all the software piracy. Because the 360, Wii, PSP, and DS haven't been modable for years and there wasn't just a huge stink that the PS3 was finally broken. Who exactly are they fooling at this point? Shareholders who know nothing about technology? Anyway, it's just smoke and mirrors at this point to bring in heavier DRM that they were going to roll out regardless. Anyone who believes otherwise is in denial.

Problem is most classic IPs are held by big publishers, and big publishers don't like to make games that aren't multiplatform these days. As much as I'd love to see a remake of games like Star Control 2 or Syndicate or something, I also know it's for the best they DO NOT get made while under the license of a big publisher. Remember when X-Com the FPS got announced? Yeah.
Mass Effect 1 and 2 are all about the story. If all you are interested in is the game mechanics, I'd play WoW, Diablo, or something else. Or, actually, Fallout 2 would be a good bet, though if you don't want to deal with the story, play Fallout Tactics (available cheaply online).
This was my experience as well. The writing is good, but the gameplay was meh. 1 was a lot more RPGish, but the combat engine was pr
The Kol's problem isn't so much GRG, even though it's always been an UP ability. The problem is it can't benefit from it's shield ability and GRG without running out of AM in a few seconds. Rebalancing the shield ability as a passive would do wonders for Kol viability, as would allowing the Dunov to heal itself. Anorak seriously needs some help too.
So the basic concept sounds interesting, where your trying to create satisfying adventures for heroes who come into your lair. The part where your doing this to kill them later sounds a bit odd though. Might have been more interesting if they dumped that part and just made it more of a kind of wierd dungeon theme park. But still it's an intriguing concept, but it sounds like maybe I'd be better of waiting if I planned to get it?
<p
I find all the pacts more tedious than fun, especially having to research every little thing separately. It's like diplomacy nanomanagement. It would have been more fun to exchange technology directly, like getting Reintegration for Kodiaks, Repair bots for Guardians or Repulsion for Overseers.
The pacts were needed simply because Entrenchment pushed teching in favour of military, since the new tech tree used those labs. Pirate changes and memory fixes sound great. A few much needed balance changes, a lot of missed changes, and a few WTF changes. No pact changes? Only a couple technology changes? Nothing to encourage Visari fleet diversity? It's nice the game is finally getting patched but this is a little...underwhelming. Oh well, hopefully some of the modders will get going again once the final patch is out. @Nightraid3r double pacts would be OP as
Sounds like their biggest mistake was hyping it to be DK3, when in fact the core gameplay is quite different. Apparently for the worse for what I'm hearing from the community. They might get more initial sales this way, but there's going to be a lot more backlash as customers realize they bought what seems to be more a puzzle game than a sim.
You could at least start with something challenging. For Starcraft 1, there's a good reason the whole ZERG RUSH meme came up. A well timed zergling rush build would win against anything but a perfectly timed defence against it, including having to resort to using your builders to fight it off; something even experienced players might not even think about using. Before anyone calls me on this because they didn't read my earlier post, it was eventually patched
