Never tried any of the games in this series, but wondering about them as they're all on sale on Impulse this week. It seems to be a more open ended Freelancer, but that's really all I can tell about it. Are they any good? If so, which one is worth getting? Skip straight to the final one, Terran Conflict, or is there a point to playing Reunion first (gameplay-wise, don't really care too much about the story here)?

You are exagerrating. I don't know of any game where cheese tactics have unequivocally reduced it to "shit". Any game with a half decent development team will root out and fix any imbalances that truly pose a threat to the well-being of the game. The cheese tactics that you are talking about are just...regular tactics. It is true that games played between less-skilled players will tend to end fairly early due to cheese but that is simply due to a lack of skill. At higher l

It's a problem with all online games, though worse with RTS'. You have a small group of people who want to play, and you have a much larger group of people who just want +1 win as fast as possible. Too many fun games have been reduced to shit by a player base that use 5 minute win cheese tactics, every day, every game. The age of a game doesn't seem to matter here. Regardless of how old the game and how small the playerbase, you STILL seem to run into more people who j

How's the community size for DoW2? Steam has a crazy sale on gold pack right now, but based on what I've heard on Gamereplays forums most competitive players have given up on it until the next expansion is released. If that's the case, I'll just hold off and see how the expansion is received before committing any cash to it.

I'm kind of curious how many people who jumped to SC2 have since gone back to other games. Out of the group of friends I play PC games with, only one of us had enough interest to actually buy SC2; and he admits he played it for about a month and hasn't really touched it since. The general thought among us is that the 'trolls' were right; the game really did play and feel too much like Starcraft 1.5, and only the really hardcore SC fans are sticking with it. Not bashing SC2

Sins can only use up to 2GB of RAM with the current engine, and crashes once it hits that limit. Even if you have an awesome gaming PC, it's best to turn down the graphic settings if you're playing on large maps. I'd suggest bumping everything down a couple notches, and see if the crash persists. On the plus side, Stardock claims they're going to release an update in the next few months to fix this.

I'm glad you find it so amusing that I bashed a game you liked while praising a game you didn't like. Even funnier story: The Witcher gets good after the terrible first chapter. Oblivion and Fallout 3 never get good without mods. Oh look, it's yet another generic subway/cave/ruins filled with the same 2 enemy types. GOTY.

I can see how scaling might sound like a good idea to developers on paper. How do we insure that the main quest remains at the intended difficulty for people who want to do every little sidequest? Why, have the enemies scale with the player so that endgame fights don't turn into curbstomps. In practice, there is no way this system can ever work. Since getting stronger has no real benefits to the player under this system, all you've done is discourage the player from

Oblivion and Fallout 3 were terrible games in almost every respect (gameplay, technical, writing, repetitive enemies and dungeons, big-empty-world-with-nothing-to-do, etc.); unplayable without extensive modding and cheat codes to teleport around to avoid all the pointless walking around. If they're going to copy-paste the same game yet again because the 360 can't handle a better engine I'll pass. Thank goodness for The Witcher 2, as this and Dragon Age 2 look like

The game still consistantly appears in the Impulse top 5 sellers list, so I think they must feel bad for having neglected it for so long despite Sins probably making up a significant % of their profits. Still, this is great news. If they're considering a major engine overhaul, It's a very safe bet they're planning a full expansion in the near-future as well. Sins is still a cool game, just kind of stale and neglected. This could give the game a rebirth.

It's not strange at all, in fact in the next decade I'd expect to see more and more developers go entirely digital; PC AND console. Increasing numbers of console games are coming with product keys for online play, making buying second hand increasingly pointless. It's only a matter of time before the single player portions of console games require activation too, making physical copies increasingly not worth the disc they're copied on. Most Indie developers have already move

Advent has more problems than just LRFs dominating the game once again; -Advent has the least and most expensive economy upgrades. -Advent's civilian 'advantage', early culture and more culture upgrades, is garbage as culture has little impact on the game. -Advent has the worst superweapon. -Advent's envoy abilities suck, and have pacts that only really benefit themselves (beam, culture). The root of the problem is that Advent has been OP

This is great news! My friends and I haven't touched Sins for a while now, just waiting for the next Distant Stars update. Some major fixes and upgrades to the core game would be most welcome, so we don't have to use mods all the time to enjoy the game again. I would take a good look at including the Sins Optimization mod as part of the core game. It offers an almost negligible loss of graphic quality in exchange for improved late-game performance and crash preventio

I'll reserve judgment on the gameplay until I actually try it, but I'm not not paying a dime until I hear what future plans Activision has for the game. If they're going to have regular DLC infusions for new areas, classes, hats, etc. then no deal.

On another note, some people worry far too much about the score and not the actual review. As many have pointed out, there are a LOT of professional reviews that mostly trash the game but then give the game an 8/10 or something. This to me is the writer desperately trying to tell the audience that they WANTED to give the game a 4 or 5 but company policy won't let them. It happens with user reviews and fanboyism as well; reviews that admit there are far more cons than pros, y

DOTA and its clones were entertaining games, but have the most toxic, cancerous communities I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I don't think even Valve can fix that aspect of the game.

Eh, Elemental pretty much deserved to get slammed by early reviews. Yes, the game will be patched into shape one day. But the fact remains that anyone who bought it day 1 got an early beta clearly rushed out in response to Civ5. All they accomplished was making Civ5 look better while damaging Stardock's reputation. There are many great games out there that started out rough, but why should they get a free pass if you're spending $60 to beta test? Everything I've

It's surprising Capcom would get lazy like this, as they had been doing pretty good with PC ports for a while. But unfortunately it seems like any multiplatform game is generally better played on consoles for the most part. There are exceptions that are actually better on PC due to improvements (the recent Darksiders offered better graphics than consoles, without any bugs or control issues) or modding potential (I pity anyone who bought any Bethesda RPG or Bioware title on a conso

It's hard to take the 'professional' reviewers seriously these days when the average score of games seems to be an 8. It's very rare to see anything score lower than a 6.5 or so. It's gone on for so long like this that most people just mentally subtract 2 or 3 points from any professional review score to get the real rating. They're obviously not allowed to rate games any lower for fear of the publisher pulling advertising in retaliation. I generally wait a week or two

http://www.gametrailers.com/user-movie/dragon-age-2-gameplay/350241 Looks horrible. Seems like they dumbed the gameplay down to the level of Dynasty Warriors. I guess this is why they were able to confidently set the release date for the sequel so soon after the first.

Well, technically it wasn't free. You just bought a copy of Bad Company 2 instead of APB, seeing as the APB DVD is now a coaster (or you might not even have that if you bought it digitally). Still surprising PR move by EA. I guess with Activision and Ubisoft trying to take the belt for 'most evil publisher on Earth' EA management must have seen an opportunity to repair some damage.

Wow, that's a total kick in the nuts for anyone who bought it then. I'd say the first post isn't totally spam then, as if you've never played CoH and enjoy RTS' you might as well try the campaign for free.

Now that I read the whole post, I noticed now that he claims single player in COHO; which it does NOT have. It is multiplayer only.
