i love forcing the ai to attack the pirates. they just jump in, turn and jump out...over and over and over.
another note of the vasari tech. in the higher stages, it allows the collection of resources of defeated ships and structures. the way i read it, as your fleet wipes out planets, you get a small income bonus as things die.
*cough* :) and rafi, yes i have been know to read Ender's Game and its series. :D
i beleive the illum is the fav ship of advent players in multiplayer. in single player i build a little of everything.
I will take a swing at this, but since its been a couple of weeks, either you have figured it out for yourselves or found a better way. Anyway here it goes...
What sort of strategies should the remaining 2-3 players have?
If you are playing the hardest AI levels then your remaining teammates should be securing planets and protecting borders. Secured planets can be handed over to your teammates that are trying to build up eco and tech fast so you will have their
im running 1.05 and not having issues like that. only other thing i can think of is if your fleet is getting new ships along the way, then they may not have the correct fleet orders. I personally reset my fleets a few times during a game. select all ships in the grave well, dump the fleet grouping, re-add the fleet grouping and then assign engagement orders as needed. You may want to try that. But I would also look into installing 1.05 as well.
one thing to note too, is that if you are using static defenses the ai will continually lose when he attacks as long as your fleet is near by. i was in a similar situation a couple weeks back, and a vasari hard ai was well within his power to dominate me, but he would continuely retreat when he should have pressed. also since your fleet is LRF heavy, make sure you are fully researched on missile technologies.
i purchased in may i think. basically play it every night and i have only scratched the surface of the available maps. i havent ventured into mp yet and dont intend to. i would say after about 2 months i have only played about a third of the single player game.
did you calculate in time? it wouldn't change your results much but if it took several seconds to all of the waves to hit, then an additional wave may be necessary.
wow. so many people dont understand 64bit.
from what i have seen, the ai at different level still plays by the numbers. at easy the ai will just retreeat until its defending its homeworld. at hard the ai will retreat but instead of going home it will try to attack another planet a couple of jumps away. regardless, if the ai calcs your fleet size as stronger than its own, it will always run until it gets to the home world.
some of vasari's best features are coupled with the phase and nav research. Returning Armada (RA) can be a powerfull tool. I have seen the AI use up to 3 phase lane stabilizers to bring in RA ships. these ships just keep coming even after the ai is past its fleet limit. imagine having the strongest ships, and then the most ships.
my guess would be that the TEC are the result of generations of industrialization. The earlist generations polluted Earth and left it behind.
as you setup the game, click the on the Random button until it says Advent. You can also force the AI to play a specific race.
well...ok. welcome to the community.
there is not a way to do this. how would the tunnel know if the rally point is for the RA or for a fleet that just used the tunnel.
happens to me too. my system is pretty close to yours. some things that have helped me besides the obvious of playing smaller maps is to reduce the fleet size. This will cut back on the number of ships the AI is using. Fewer ships = fewer calculations.
fleet naming would be nice.

1) the game is cheap. $30 or $40 for the CD at Target. A lot better than Warcraft or something else that charges you $50 to $60 and then you pay to play online. 2) post 457 talks about itunes other music websites....soo......ya. 3) true copy protection is on its way. its just a matter of time. and all the ouin ouin about it will just make the production companies push the copy protection technology out sooner.
you can "stack" the ships, but a minimize feature would be really great. especially for those of us with lower resolution screens.
nuke power is what 20% of the US grid right now? its carbon clean, but the waste is aweful. i suppose we can just ship it to france or something. clean\cheap energy freaks are buzzing on wind and tidal turbines right now. that would work out if enough realestate is dedicated to it. to get the enegy topic back on track... the question is do we wait as a society for the fossile fuels to be used up, or do we embrace a new energy tech in urban and suburban areas so the fossile
"Hydrogen fuel cells are still far beyond our technological ability" are you so sure? fuel cell technology is there. its ready to be mass produced. probably in the next 3 to 5 years we will see production level vechicles from every major manufacturer. what we are lacking is infrastructure. most americans arent thinking about it. the reason is that demand will build the infrastructure as its needed. do you think gas stations were on every corner in 1910?
rafi, only the very first cap is free. if you loose all your caps, you still have to pay for the next one. another note of the vasari tech. in the higher stages, it allows the collection of resources of defeated ships and structures. the way i read it, as your fleet wipes out planets, you get a small income bonus as things die.
Used 10 LC's with 4 Sovas 6 Kols 4 Dunovs and 2 Akkn's, most effective cap fleet i've ever used/ thoughts?
i would switch 1 akkan for a marza. worst case senario you keep a colony frig a planet behind where ever you fleet may be. im also assuming you have other frigs and cruisers in the mix. you definately want some repair ships in there along with a set of LRMs. A few light frigs or heavy cruisers would help keep the fire off your caps for a few minutes. :)
in other words, get the long jump research done. then send a ship to your star. once it is there, zoom out and tell the ship to go to the other star. now that a ship has gone between the stars, you can select a ship anywhere in your galaxy and send it to the star or another scouted planet in the other galaxy. same as what Iztok said, but with a few more words. :)
