dunno if it has to wait for sins2 but i would like to see a planet ability of some kind. ie the home world already acts as an alligence focal point. i want to upgrade a planet to "research base" status or "shipyard" status. these bought bonuses would enhance research or production kinda like the artifacts do. it would make planets other than the home worlds much more valuable to humans and ai.
DauntlessAnsible
there is another thread here with more specific directions, but the game cannot be transferred. you would need totally uninstall sins and then give him your impulse account.
one thing i have been trying lately is a mixed force 5:1 bombers to fighters. I will generally make sure the fighters stay near my fleet to engage bad guy bombers. mean while most of my bombers will go off to attack tactical structures. it has been working pretty well against the ai so far.
poor guy sounds bitter. im betting he lost to a someone spamming long range frigats.
the TEC colony ship make me laugh. tell it to attack something. its almost whiney.
i generally take them as well. i will dump the cash into the exploration first since it cannot be lost if the planet falls. if i can hold the planet for a couple of minutes then i will up everything else and build a standard set of structures.
space ponies!
wow lots of different strats here. i beat the achievement on a random small map as tec. i scrapped my frig factory first thing as my cap factory was being built. my first ship was an akkan. i researched a couple of weapon upgrades and then the cap ship limit upgrade. my second ship was a kol i think. then a sova. this gave me a nice set of strike craft and and some other useful abilities. i took worlds and heavily defended them with tactical goodies. i continued to research w
nice work :)
Stars: Not quite sure how that would work unless you wanted to create some kind of star forge maybe.
how about a "Star Dock" that would allow cap ships to park and recharge their antimater at 2x the star's bonus rate. hehe...stardock.
i finally won. many many hours later. my computer was crawling while dealing with the battle calculations and ship movements. red ended up as my closest ally. pink was my biggest enemy. i killed off orange and and every other ai except green which red killed off early on. basically the war continued to stall until i managed to build up a reserve fleet of lrms. i added a couple of repair and carrier crusiers to the mix. when pink attacked with a small fleet i brought this
i like to go in with the main fleet. wipe out the ships, then move my fleet on leaving 6 to 8 light carriers to take out the cannons. then either a single cap or siege ships to finish off the base. this way i dont have to think about it. just leave the carriers parked outside the grav well and the bombers do all the work.
ok here is the situation... i dont know if i really need help or tips, or just some encouragement large single star map. 2 hard ai, 2 med, 3 low, and me as TEC. i am ranked as 1 in most areas. 2 in a couple, and 3rd in fleet. mainly becaues my fleets are constantly committed and dying. i have about 50% of all my techs researched. i am slowly replacing light frigs with heavy cruisers. idk how many caps at this point. but there is 1 carrie
since nothing in the game is exactly to scale it would be difficult to estimate how the people in the ships see the time.
most people generally will only kill off the pirates for the experience gain on their cap ships. the base itself isnt worth much. something of an exploit is to fly in, take out everything and leave the base. then the pirates will reinforce. at which time you can fly back in and kill everything. its a vicious cycle.
for those running nvidia 7x series, be sure you upgrade to the 8x/9x driver. there is another post in this forum that will help with specifics. as for large maps that slow down, happens to me too. not much i can do about it. as i have more crud float around my 60-80 planets the game has more to process. i have plenty of computing power. anyone not see lag on the largest maps in single player?
i say cinamatic as well. you probably hit a hotkey for it or something. i do that all the time.
i cant offer much since i havent beat that number of hard ai's yet either. that game will happen this weekend. i definately agree with mixing the ai skills at first. set there colors so you can easily remember them. green:easy orange:moderate red:hard. then at a glance you will know the skills you are dealing with. once you get better, then mix all the colors and icons up.
version 1.05? stock map?
Nukes Space Ponies: crunchy Space Whales: Vasari Colony Capital ship?
current tech: smart missiles with heavy payloads. nukes maybe depending on the target. everyone saw what we did to the falling satalite this year right? that was a conventional weapon. guns and ballistics are not reasonable except and very close range. future tech: ships built in space for space combat. still reliant on missiles. but you will see ships capable of carrying ICBM sized weapons to use against the surface or other large vessels. engine tech will improve so lig
Sounds like you haven't researched it yet. The cannon is the most expensive thing to research and you have to research every thing to the cannon to unlock it. beyond that you need to have 8 weapons research structures. basically you will need several planets suffeciently upgraded to even build the infrastructure to research the cannon. dont fret, with a little time and resources you can build that cannon.
got a funny story... i was 16. it was summer. so you may already have guessed i was bored. so was a good friend of mine. so we spent about 2 hrs putting together a little fake program using Apple HyperCard and loaded it only my Mom's computer. it was harmless. just a simple little toy that would have only have scared her a little if I were present to fix it. but my friend and i were at his house. this little tiny app did nothing but load at startup and flash on s
lets see, 2 active computers at home. plus 3 desktops and 1 laptop. at work i have a desktop plus about 10 virtual machines that i use regularly. i already gave away two systems this year. anyone have the address of a african village i can send my extras to?
i have found the most joy in the game by finding different ways to win against the ai's. everyone knows they can wipe out an easy ai or 9 by simply grabbing as many planters early and heavily defending them. so do things in options to make life harder on you. mix up skills and races. play different maps. change game speeds and resource limits. i found by doing this, the game has stayed very fresh. every game is different and i find my self taking different routes to win.
