So I bought Forbidden Worlds yesterday and played for a little, and now wonder if it added anything to the game. The new planetary textures are the most visible change. The changes in gameplay and the new planetary types are odd at best. Frankly, it seems a random +/- number was assigned to the new types and for some reason Barren planets are the best thing that can happen in this universe. This really makes me wonder what the designers were think

Fantastic, looking forward to see what happens if you manage to take their homeworld.

Childish and stupid Kindergarten argumentation detected... wnmnkh... you do not really believe that the skills of a player has anything to do with the topic discussing the balance of the skill "Missile Barrage", don't you?

In 1.16 SoaSE and 1.02 SoaSE Entrenchment the AI no longer surrenders as easily as in the patch before. It happens less frequently now, and it surrenders later and under more reasonable conditions. I did not notice Blackwolfs "capital planet los -> surrender" issue, as the AI continued to fight in my latest 1.02 game. It still seems to have some issue, when I read the different reports in this thread.

Nobody is interested in anecdotes of great online battles that unfortunately nobody here witnessed or actually cares for. Or someone's impressive ability to take a missile barrage like a real man (tm), which is an awfully useless contribution to the discussion. #122 by dolynick and transitive's ideas in general are more interesting reads than the bickering that is going on right now, actually analyzing why Missile Barrage is so "popular" and how to keep it powerful while removing the

I personally like the synergies of the Advent capital ships. I am especially fond of the Radiance and its passive ability to increase armor and gain antimatter, while exploding other ships that have antimatter storages. The Halcyon with its Telekinetic push and the passive laser boost is nice, too. Funnily, despite loving the Advent abilities, I prefer to play Vasari and TEC. I also like the nano disassembler of the Vasari Egg, TEC on the other hand has the Marza, which would

Capital ships are very powerful early on, and lose a lot of appeal the larger your empire grows. I think this is okay. It is about a Solar Empire, and not about about a battle of cap ships with some frigates and cruisers mixed in to provide some flavor. :) Enjoy finding the right mix of frigates, cruisers and cap ships. This is part of the fun, too.

* Target limit 24 this is the most important thing, the limiter that prevents MB from going over the top against huge fleets. * Salvos slightly slower, every 2 seconds, for 30 seconds. This would create 15 salvos at max, 2250 x 24 optimum damage = 54.000 damage under ideal circumstances * Reduce MB circular range to 6000 or 8000, needs to be tested To allow ships to retreat out of range, the range needs to be decreased. * More visible effect

The real question is if it is really worth to bother with the black market. Just selling/buying with the four buttons works wonderfully, the black market function feels rather complicated and redundant. Especially compared how streamlined SOASE is in every other aspect.

Yeah, two starbases in a star's grav well is a safe and sure way to stop AI invasions of your star system forever. The game and game mechanics advanced, but the AI did not follow. It has also a tendency to build excessive amounts of scouts in the middle and late game for some reasons. BTW: What was the reasons that we can build up to 4 star bases in a star's grav well, but only 1 in the well of planet? 4 Starb

This is definitely a good idea This would still shoot 8 waves in 10 seconds, dealing 800 damage to targets in range. Some improved visuals would also help. The Guardian's shield is still allowed to blur the whole screen (they are working on it), the damage dealing premium ability of a cap ship on the other hand should be visible. Edit - on 2nd thought, I would prefer a target limit approach.

Could people please stop making assumptions about the skills of the two players involved in Agent of Kharmas game? It does not matter at all if they were PRO or NOOBS for the discussion of Missile Barrage. The skill of the players involved has not anything to do with the "balance" and the comparable power of a cap ship ability. Now let's come to EadTaes: 1.) "Reverie" being used automatically and ready the very moment when Missile Barrage is used? Hopeful

So, SageWon, TEC will not be played anymore if the Marza gets nerfed? Is this not a good argument to boost TEC and nerf the Missile Barrage, you cannot seriously be arguing that a broken ability shall compensate for shortcomings? You also make false claims, the AI does not dodge Missile Barrages on either difficulty at all. FACT! You also do not explain why people should lose their fleet like the OP because they did not immediately run away or did not have the

Ryat, a Marza does not need support to destroy a whole fleet. It is the only capital ship that is able of single-handedly destroying a whole fleet all alone. * Cleansing Brilliance does less damage, 2000 over 8 seconds to all targets that are in direct line of the beam. * Missile Barrage does 150 damage for 20 seconds to all targets, that's 3000 damage to everyone in a huge radius, not just one target. This is why it is "balanced".

Belittling the OP does not make a point, Rezonator. Missile Barrage is indeed beyond ridiculous. I would like some arguments why it is not, there is a whole thread about it. There is no other level 6 cap ship ability that can compare to a fleet destroying ability. If you cannot interrupt it, everything in a huge radius gets blasted. It is very easy to apply. Not so easy to have an interrupt ready all the time to stop such a barrage. Is it really so much fun to watch ou

pyalot, Infringement Nation: Copyright Reform and the Law/Norm Gap hosted on PirateBay...^^ I *could* have some sympathies for your stance, as I am very sceptical about all this kind of copy protections and DRMS and so on. They are indeed often annoying to the customer. But you were very unfriendly in this thread and actually... What do you want, what do you actually demand? No DRM/copy protection at all?

Some questions: GOO requires me to validate my purchase online, right? So I will need to have an account at one platform, be it Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, X, Y, Z? And how can I prove that I own the game once Impulse/Stardock goes down without having registered the game on my Steam-Account? If I do not have a physical copy of the game, got a new system and want to download and re-install GalCiv 7, how can I tell Steam or Direct2Drive that I

Maybe this works with Kols and Marzas, but for Advent I would suggest two different ships, as they usually have synergies. E.g. Progenitor Mothership + Radiance or Halcyon. I usually try to get the three together. One of each of the five Advent capitals, ideally. :) Vasari: Double Eggs? Egg + Skirantra Carrier for Repair Cloud is my usual choice. Or another capital to exploit the Nano-thingie of the Egg, but not one more Egg.</p

The OP has a point. Sins and GalCiv are less obnoxious than many other forms of DRM. Does not really mean they do not have any form of copy protection. Impulse is in the center of it. Still, buy a game over Steam or Impulse and you are bound to the service for updates, activating, often just to start and play the game. Forget re-selling games and the day Impulse and Steam are done, you cannot play / reinstall anymore. Granted, at this day you probably won't play

Regardless of what we think about his reaction and comment about piracy, he is right in one regard: We depend on Impulse and Impulse alone to activate, download, update the game. This is why they need no DRM. And they can talk as much about they want about the "R" like rights in DRM, and say that Sins does not have DRM or copy protection... it is splitting beans, this is actually a better copy protection than many other DRM methods and also has it

Thanks a lot, transitive. The spreadsheet is the problem, as I guessed. You can never be sure how many of the guns can actually fire in one direction, as you have shown with your Jarrasul Evacuator example. And to be honest, if we just play the Vasari ingame, their capital ship dps does not feel lower than that from other races. They just do not have Missile Barrage. Sorry for beating that horse again, SCNR.

The unknown threat would be the perfect background for a campaign. Let Vasari/TEC/Advent unite and send out an exploration force that finds out the true nature of the evil, which has already befallen the fringes of the battlefield, forcing the three empires to an uncomfortable truce due to a common enemy. The nature of the enemy must of course be exotic. Maybe a bit Event Horizon style. :)
