Pirates beat everything as it is, Since i dont play a lot i onyl realized today just how broken they are in diplomacy. I played TEC. I used pirates (thinking they would get softened quite a bit) to break through a -massively- defended planet (Max mines, on max upgraded station, plus a large defense fleet), so i could go in next with my main fleet (16 capitals ships, all lvl6, about 3-4 of all classes) and finish the job.. and it was a big mistake. I buyed 2 maxed

I meant that it affected your whole empire.. but yeah, it isnt free at all. Early on its not a great idea to do it..
exploration gives you more than just artifacts, it shows you the planetary bonus.. and some of them are pure gold (like big trade bonus) or ponies. The best artifacts imho are research (if you find it early.. good luck), culture and guns. All the others have thier use.. but not so much... but hey, its all free bonuses for all your empire! And its better in your hands than in the control of the ennemy! And for advents, its so cheap to explore(with techs), you just gotta do it.<
SF? Too expensive, weak, mostly defenseless.. tend to charge ahead to their doom. An almost useless specialist ship. I only use it if i need my capital ships elsewhere... but 99% of the time i dont bother. idea .. What i would like to see are some way to invade planets.. you could have the choice: bombard or invade.. bombarding is a lot quiker but blows up all infrastructure, population and upgrades.. and is long and costly to re-build and colonisation might fail if ennemy cul
Not use for vasari in late game? They see all phase lanes movements, they get bigger fleets, nearly everything cost less to build and they get Awesome mobility techs and structures and the ability to instantly call in (relatively)cheap reinforcements.
I wish some developer would be brave enough to set up a system where player with many losses/low rank get compensated with higher resources or special units when played people of higher rank. Would keep game much more interesting and playing on servers longer. As it stands now most games outside of a few ultra popular ones have short multi life because the core pro gamer scare off the noobs and have only each other to play with and server get very empty.
You can stop TEC from getting acces to any information.. they are not very good at getting it. VAsari can see alll movements from your fleets.. Intel gathering is the Advent strenght: Advent see all culture in real-time so it can tell them where your CS and worlds are. Their culture influence vision works with with their superweapon, and one of their CS have a "farsight" ability that act as a instant scout on almost any world in the game. (sometimes i cant use it on some plane
i was thinking, that maybe, it would be interesting if pirates could take possesion of a planet they destroyed themselves.. increased income for them and extra ship productivity and power (a bit).. like if they take a advent planet their ships have weak shields installed.. if vasari; better armor, if TEC; better weapons... maybe even acces to their own version of a capital ship.. Their behavior dont change much, they just get more bite. And if they do take a planet, it automat
okay i tried it; btw i have the latest version 1.12. on pirate bases, it takes a while (5-10 minutes) for the phase stabiliser, once built, to be used by ships as a long-jumping point. Now.. this is annoying.. I hope they fix this. Once built it is used as a destination almost on the spot (traders were quick to get there, but had to jump with normal jumps after for a while)
I want one.. like the first, but with an user interface that dont make my eyes bleed and an alien force that dont have magical factories that build battleships by the hundred for free at the endgame..
Yes it was built. I re-loaded my game then invaded again, then rebuilt the PS. It is completed, and not working again.. definitively something need fixing here..
i loved the first Xcom; UFO defense.. only played on basic difficulty (and it was HARD.. and FUN)so many fond memories of my troops getting utterly owned, demoralised, blaster'bombed, zombified, and me managing to get a victory with a bunch of rookie soldiers.. Or when i invaded mars with 4 basic tanks and two soldiers.. and won. losing only the tanks at the surface combat.
One last thing: GET THOSE NEUTRAL EXTRACTORS!!!!! Esp. in the enemy's territory! they give you sight in that gravity well and the AI leaves those alone. the AI also likes to stage their attacks from wells with neutrals.
i noticed it too, take some of your scout and capture them. Almost free ressources and spotters.
EVE is like WoW in space. Grind and boring.
I captured a pirate base, found a artifact on it. I built one phase stabilizer there, then ordered my fleet to 'use it' to go to another phase stabiliser some distance away.. like, the usual thing. But it appear the phase stabilisers dont work on pirates bases, my fleet act as if it isnt there and they take the longer way around to the nearest phase stabiliser to reach their destination. A bug i guess. Someone else noticed this?
I heard that GC2 is really good, that the AI is gold, i tried the demo with braindead AIs.. and found its fun (ship designer is cool!). Might buy it. A bit sad that its only single player Space empires 5 is fun.. but is micromanagement hell and the UI is not very good. If youlike designing and microing everything you will love it, and you have almost limitless options. Gallaxies might have 50+ systems with hundreds of planets in it. The mod "Balance mod" is the best thing out there cu
a balanced fleet have a bit of everything, and is built to counter the strategy your ennemy use...
all of these are just there as braggin rights.. so its not really important.
well, most of the time just the way a fleet warp in/from a sector allows them to completely sidestep the "phase lines" by a great margin, just that make static defenses (no matter how many you got) a lot less effective. IMHO they should be bit tighter. Fleets are the only trully effective defense. The way i see Kosura, its the great status-quo breaker.. if frontlines end up being long battles of attrition, it will break it and end the game sooner..
yes, its when you create a new game.
They are running aways from their childrens, very, very hungry childrens.
imho, mines should be able to be shot down by anything with a gun. Not so hard to hit a immobile ball of steel when you can take down speedy fighters. It waste some time to destroy all the mines, but time is important in this game... a minesweeper ship would be a waste, little use outside of just that.. minesweeping. Not very fun. Just make the mines a valid target for any ship would work i guess. Mines are and were always more about controlling the movements of the en
Their wives..
What InfiniteVoisd said is good. Just look at fighters attacking a turret, then watch a bomber do it. BIG difference... Personally, i prefer to fill my hangar defense with fighter only, so they can better counter ennemy bombers that own my turrets defenses... and being fast they can kill scouts easily. For my fleets i usually do 2 fighters for 1 bomber Having carriers with your fleet gives you a very mobile and effective tool (fighters and
it IS an awesome advantage to force your ennemy to split up and fight on two fronts.. and your the one controling it! Suicide fleet maybe, but it will be able to do some serious damage. Now, just keep his main battle fleet busy elsewhere while you do your sneak attack...
