Actually, versus AI its not neccesary to colonize your home asteroids at all. You can pull all sorts of risky stunts against the AI that would kill you for sure versus humans. Example: You build two colony caps right off the bat, send them forward right after your scouts until you reach the mayor chokepoints of the map, colonize those, place a frig factory there and place a SB on each. You'll probably have to fend off the enemy for a good 15 to 20 minutes by spammin

The best strategy to stop wailing is thinking ahead. An enemy cannot use it efficiently if you deny him the population to do it. So If you play versus Advent Rebels you try to play aggressively and raid his planets, make sure the border between you and the enemy shifts a lot, that already helps. If you collect a large fleet and let it sit on it's goonies it'll get busted.

You could still do that directly by offering the pirates the mission to attack a specific player (down to what planet they would attack, too). If multiple players consipred on that one player they could even send him multiple raids at once. I don't see the player losing anything from my proposition. If anything it would make some diplomatic researchas more valuable...

Bidding should be hidden, why the heck would other players know wether you have put up money to the pirates. it's a backroom deal, dammit. Also, all players should bribe the pirates to stay away from them, with the player offering the least amount of money being attacked. That way each player would have a fair chance in bidding and players could not gang up on one player to put up obnoxious amounts of money on them.

They don't own a planet, they have a small asteroid that they remodeled using junk from whereever. The "massive fleets" are actually quite puny compared to what regular factions can put up, given you don't play an AI game where pirates raid undefended AI planets until they become unstoppable. The normal pirate fleets cannot even keep up with regular defenses until later stages of the game, where raid strenghts increase to maximum. I personally find the way pirates act in Sins

Hey, at least they finally plant those mines in neutral wells. Was quite suprised to see the asteroid belts close to their worlds littered with mines. They even put minetraps at wormhole entrances, almost lost my fleet there...

I don't like the idea of One Piece style pirate strongholds. Realistically speaking pirates would try to keep a low profile and stay undetected close to their homebase, as to not draw attention to them. I would prefer if the pirates would attempt to occupy neutral gravitywells to establish raiding spots and harrass enemy fleets while somehow actively hiding their actual base from all players. I made a sugestion about that, but it wasn't very refined I guess or p

I was cut off from the the rest of the system by the pirate base (random small sometimes does that), so I collected fleet to take the pirate base as foothold. All the time the AI would sind in scouts and look around my planets and wells, and just as I was done cleaning the pirate base they jumped in from three sides with about everything they had. I didn't have enough forces to deal with it, so I was forced to retreat into the safety of the next well and behind my two starbases. O

A human players' ships and defenses will automatically attack your envoys, too. You need to get a cease fire before sending an envoy, in order to gain enough diplomatic standing try gifting them resources and money, fullfill their quests or give them quests. You can also research improvements in diplomatic standing in the diplomacy research tree.
Pirates don't have shield technology.
Too bad they still die in two more or less simultaneus Nova shots. Playing with pirates and TEC AIs is pretty much pointelss right now as fourty minutes into the game the pirates die. Maybe something unique for the pirates? Scrap plates from Ankylon armor used as temporary shield, shielding power 35 to 45% until they are destroyed?

If Titans are weakend in every upcoming patch I guess we can remove the limit and make them a regular capship by release... Looking at the numbers it seems they're kinda losing their impact, fast. Ah, well... gonna test them and see what happens.

Because the person with the strongest PC would fast forward the game and the person with the weaksest PC could watch his rig start smoking under the strain.
To be honest. Thats kind of a crappy ultimate, I had no idea it didn't keep the planet upgrades. YOu may as well just bomb the planet and recolonize it cause there isnt much of a difference...
I'm not entirely sure, but I think the ultimate ignores culture, permitting you to take over planets that would usually be uncolonizable due to too strong culture rates. Edit: lol, must have missed page 5 of this

I neaver argued against that. There are a few situations in earlygame where wail could play a role, but I highly doubt it'd be as devestating as it was in that particular situation, considering how often borders shift back and forth in earlygame. There is hardly time to gather as much population.

It isn't, played against two agressive unfair AIs yesterday. They tried stomping me until I had my first starbase up, after that I had to go after them if I wanted to fight. They set up fleets a lot faster, but after they teched enough they will just keep falling back into their old pattern. The chance of encountering an AI that actually keps up the pressure is something around 1/5...

In english: Not now, maybe later

Mostly you have to make sure that these conditions are met when playing against Advent Rebels: Make sure your planets are not aligned in a single line, you need planets in the back that are not in direct reach of enemy planets as safe point for your fleet, at the same time those planets should not be ten jumps away. Try to take high population worlds around you and fortify yourself there, try to look for borders that favor your defense and simply cannot be wailed efficiently (
Size does not limit speed in space.
No it doesn't, but force does. If you take a sharp turn even in space the shearing forces could break your ship in half, so evasive maneuvers and stuff like that would become a nightmare. As why I said size is the problem: Larger ships are more suspectible to said shear force than smaller ones are, of course the size or mass is not really an issue in space wher

In order to raise your standing with another faction you can offer them gifts of credits or resources, offer them missions or fullfill them and use envoy cruisers to visit their planets. If you are playing in free teams you wil need to start with gifts and missions. Both need to be researched first from the diplomacy research tab and can be executed in the diplmacy window of the player you want to pact with. You usually need a positive standing of three to five to request a cease fire
