Where's my violin? If you don't like wormholes, then play a map without them. They're add soemthing to play sometimes, and give another element for strategy. That wormhole that links to you system also links to someone elses's system. Take it. Offense is a better idea than turling in this game.

Rather than requesting it, why don't you do it? The instructions and tools are in the download, and there's a free version of XSI available to modders.

Hmm, how about Gas giants have no population upgrades and are expensive to maintain (actually cost money rather than make it), but have lots of resources, eg 2 metal, 2 crystal? This would make gaining a Gas giant a risky proposition early on, but they could be very useful later.

All sounds very interesting, havn't installed any mods yet as I've been enjoying vanilla SOASE, I think yours will be first. Question. Would it be possible to turn a planet from an income world to a fortress world by independently changing it's logistical slots to additional tactical slots in orbit? This would be reversible. ie You capture a new planet on the frontline that you expect will be fought over a lot, so you convert all it's resources to warfare, now you might have d

I think oceanic planets would work well as being low population to begin with, but with many expensive upgrades (representing underwater colonies) to allow them to have a high population. A bonus to space ports might also help, as they'd probably have a lot of food to sell off. Food is pretty valuable on most planets.

They should have 2 additional methods of taking planets. The current one, where you kill everyone on the planet, then rebuild. A glassing version, where you either reduce the planets usefulness, or render it completely worthless. Or a version where you go in with the space marines (or whatever your species calls them)capture the planet intact (with it's population and it's infrastructure). The Space marine version should be the most costly, but obviously you can start turning

I really wanted to say RTFM, but that would be rude. It's in the PDF or paper manual if you got the CD version.

Focus firing is still effective, as even if you're doing less DPS overall, you're going to take out individual ships quicker, reducing the enemies firepower hitting YOU. Exact results will vary based on the specific situation. I gernally like to take out my enemies caps if nothing else however.

It can be beneficial to not max out your cap to keep your economy in better shape. In this way you can rebuild fleets that are lost much quicker. Especially as you get near the higher levels, going from 66% to 75% isn't reducing your income by 9%, it's reducing your current income by 25%... (34% remaining to 25% remaining) so be careful... It's kind of similiar to how empires have fallen historically, they expand beyond their ability to protect...Rome, British Empire, etc. <b
It won't work on Vista. Homeworld: Cataclysm was done by the team who did Sins of a Solar Empire and is the strongest in my opinion. Homeworld 2 will be less boring to a player looking at it as a vintage product but it doesn't have any of the revolutionary qualities of Homeworld 1, or the polish of Homeworld: Cataclysm. It was a very generic sequel.
I played HW2 a few days ago. Vista 64. If you ever have problems on vista, the first thing you should try is admin

Put it on a cruiser rather than a cap, and make it relatively easy to kill, and very expensive to buy in fleet points, this will prevent it from being spammed, but it will still be a useful support ship. Plus it would have to be researched rather than being available from near the start of the game.

22 Replies 12,828 Views

It would be cool if you could make certain phaselanes and or systems unavailable to your merchant ships. OR build merchant cruisers and escorts that fight back when they get hit. As for currently. If it's a well established Pirate base (I've seen one get to over 200 frigates in the pirate base system) then it's "HAMMER TIME" (Bring the Novalith cannon to bear...) *meh* I like both the Vasari and the TEC. I'd have to say the Kol and the Vasari battleships are about equal, but the Kol seems to have more forward firepower.

Yes. It's a classic in the Genre. Homeworld 1 and the expansion also.

How about moons having double an asteroids resources, and being something you can build a signifigant defense on. However not as common as asteroids. Speeking of which, it would be nifty if instead of building a mining base on asteroids, you could choose to build a defense base on one. You wouldn't get the resources, but it woudl be a tough part of that gravity wells defenses-the equivalent of a capital ship perhaps. (maybe even able to gain levels :) )

46 Replies 22,831 Views

Randomness in resources would be nice, currently you know what's in a system by it's type, but having some systems with less, and some with more resources would be very nice. Making some planets much more valuable to own, other than just for their location.

I like them for holding onto planets from pirates and other miscreants while my early capital goes off killing evildoers and taking their planets. While they may not be powerful, the basic frigate can really make the difference if you need to hold onto a system that's not been built up, and you don't have a large navy yet, these can help a system last long enough to get the big guns there.

Mercenaries. Kind of like Pirates, but you could actually control their ships for a while. Say you had a planet that needed protection but your own fleet was too spread out- hire a mercenary fleet on the Black Market. They might be more prone to fleeing if it looked like they were going to lose a battle, but it's better than leaving a planet unprotected, and they work for good old credits. It might also be nifty if you could sell ships to mercenaries, or back new pirate bands in remote
