hoho5000 I have found that each version of sins and entrenchment's convertdata is not able to correctly work with files porcesses with other versions of the convertdata*.exe's. you might want to use this information in your utility harpo

khezef inside the 'Ironclad Games' folder SHOULD be a "sins of a Solar Empire" folder that then contains the mod folers, galaxyforge folder a settings folder and a mapdesigner folder, but fuzzylogic gave you the wron path in vista/windows7 the correct path is for vanilla sins C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\mods-V and for entrenchment the path is C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mod
I think it is refering to the 5th ability in the cap having a display for the fifth ability, due to the selectable upgrades to abilities in cap ships, I think that the only way around it is for the abilities in the fifth slots in caps need to NOT have a control button harpo
I actually found out what the cause of the incompatibility for the convertdata's is. each of the convertdata's is for THAT version of sins it was released with and later versions do the encoding differently, so to convert BACK to txt you have to use the SAME version of the convertdata, and if you try to use a different version to the version that encoded the file then there is a chance of the converter locking up and failing to convert the file. my suggestion for modders is to
brett73000 and slickbrick assuming you are on sins 1.17/entrenchment 1.03 and looking for the map in entrenchment then the correct folder for galaxy forge maps (which came in with sins 1.16/entrenchment 1.02) is the GalaxyForge folder next to your mods folders for xp C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge or here for vista/windows 7 C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Si
change the PlanetOwnerIsRace to PlanetOwnerIsRaceNormalStart, and copy the template with alterations to help with quickstart and change the PlanetOwnerIsRace to PlanetOwnerIsRaceQuickstart for the quickstart template this should help harpo
I have found that the convertdata_originalsins.exe and convertdata_entrenchment.exe that are shipped with sins & entrenchment updates ARE NOT BACKWARD compatible ie a file converted to bin with entrenchment 1.01's convertdata_entrenchment.exe MIGHT NOT convert to text when the entrenchment 1.03's convertdata_entrenchment.exe is used. the only workaround that I have found is to have EACH version of the convertdata*.exe's and to select which one based upon the version that was used to
I have found an issue with the convertdata's not correctly converting files that were converted to bin with a previous version of the convertdata*.exe. I am re-writing the gui and the mod updater to use the correct convertdata for the version and expansion, but the folder paths DO NEED to have the expansion AND version number in them eg entrenchment 1.02, entrenchment 1.01 entrenchment 1.03,sins 1.15,sins 1.16,sins 1.17, and will also have to supply the versions of convertdata harpo</
which mod or mods were you trying to update, and I am in alpha testing for the next version of the mod updater that will include the convertdatas from sins 1.15,1.16 & 1.17 AND entrenchment 1.01,1.02 & 1.03, and would like to test against the mods that are most troublesome harpo
xraptor321, to the best of my knowledge impulse will ONLY update sins/entrenchment to the latest version, BUT sins of the 13th tribe is one of the mods that I tested my mod updater v1 on, and I might have found the cause of the problems with the updating, due to different versions of the convertdata doing ONLY their version of sins. I have emailed blair fraser for permission to re-distribute the older convertdata's with my mod updater and bintxtgui, but I do not expect to hear from hi
mystic, I am primarily developing my utilities on xp sp3 32bit, but I test them on vist 32bit,vist 64bit,win7 32bit & win7 64bit, the only points in the program that use arrays are the list of files, the actual files during updates and the actual instructions for conversion. I also have just tested the real capitals entrenchment, but had a convert to txt problem that I worked around with the OLD convertdata_entrenchment.exe from 1.02, so I am going to recommend against downloading
soasertsus, I have hit a issue with the different versions having different convertdatas that appear to be NOT backward compatible, so I will have to alter my utility and supply all the convertdatas for each version and a newer set of files with each update harpo

check each line of the map on your text editor for a MISSING SPACE between the text and the number. this can often cause CTD on going to the map type tab harpo
was the stronger capitals mod for any version of entrenchment or sins after 1.15? or is it from old sins? could you point me in the direction of the mod tread /download so I ca ncheck it out? harpo
mystic did you extract ALL the files to the same folder? I had tested it on sins computers running from a usb key WITH ALL the files that are in the rar. the program does use the targetsinsver.txt file to locate the default copy to locations. just out of curosity which mods did you want to update? harpo
Yes I have and I cant get it to work for the life of me! It says something like "runtime error 76" or "path not found". I guess Im just stupid.
the error 76 path not found is probably because sins is not installed on the computer that you are trying to do the conversion between txt & bin as my program uses the convertdata's in the sins folder harpo

you map is probalby causeing an out of memeory situation, ie the more planets & players(with bigger fleets) the MORE ram needed till it passes the max ram for windows ie 2gb data space then crash harpo
welcome woodz7107 I will answer your last question first assuming you have sins 1.17/entrenchment 1.03, the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge or here for vista/windows 7 C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge. NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden ,
or play 1.17 in one user login and 1.05 in a different user login (to windows) harpo
my batch assumes that the convertdata_entrenchment.exe is in the folder with the files to be converted, if you used the convertdata_original_sins.exe then that could be the problem harpo

poseidonxp, my gui has been tested on window 7 64bit beta 1 AND rc1 in the above directory layout and it worked without problem for me, abd I did have some issues when I uploaded a copy of the reference data to do with the file being corrupted and unable to extract it, while the original copy of the archive on my computer had no problems harpo
are you using the convertdata_entrenchment? I think you might be trying to create a texted reference set for entrenchment, my sins txt bin gui looks at the path to determine which convertdata to use ie if no entrenchment in the path assumes vanilla sins if entrenchment is in the path then assumes entrenchment, and will make the same assumptions with regard to all future expansions my reference folder layout is below sins reference\sins 1.15 &
