Sadly, custom maps won't autodownload. I hope you'll bring your buddies over to Ironclad Online and challenge other people.

Hang in there.
The ICO server has gone down on a Saturday night, which is a big gaming night. Then to top it off Oakland beat the feckless Tigers in Game 2. Let's hope the Lions beat the Fudgies tomorrow.
Host a game titled "2v2 New Players" and challenge 2 other guys with your friend and see how you do.
Awesome, lol!

Your best bet would be to log onto Ironclad Online, host a game for that, and then join the Lobby channel and advertise it to people.
If you don't want opponents that are "wusses" then why are you playing against the AI when you could log onto Ironclad Online and play against humans?
I don't fault people for kicking noobs (although I think it partially explains why the MP community is so small), but give them a heads up when they try to join.
I agree with this. IMHO, any game where someone is liable to be kicked for being a noob should have the word "skilled" in the title or something like "minimum 50 games".
Once you guys can manhandle the AI, you might consider advancing to playing against human opponents. You could start by hosting games titled "3v3 new players" or some such so that the pros will avoid your games.

Here's my newest version:
Your best bet might be to log on to Ironclad Online and ask if anyone is interested in playing a game with Teamspeak. I'd also try the Sins Reddit forum: http://www.reddit.com/r/SoSE/
I had something like this in mind. Cant' say this is real good. I took me a couple minutes to whip it up. It might be neat to use on other forums. I guess this is the model for what I had in mind. http://www.prounreal.org/mlut/ <img src="http://www.prounreal.org/mlut/imgs/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"
Would anyone care to take a shot at designing a "Major League" Sins logo that could be used by people who play in the 5v5's? What I have in mind is the Marza against the blue/red background.
This game never had enough of an online player base to support having a real clan league with scheduled matches. Also, 90% of the people online only play vs. AI and not real games, so the number of people playing PvP is far too small to have a clan scene.
I suggest that instead of FFA, you try 5-on-5 games. They don't get to the point where a Vasari player can make that jump with the Kostura real often.
The answer is...Zero...at least for Sins PvP games.
Host games with titles like "3v3 noobs only". That way you can play against other new people and you would be justified in booting out any skilled players who join.
I found it thanks to Zubaz's help on the Stardock IRC: C:\Users\ \Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting So it is NOT in AppData, at least for Vista, but rather in this Documents/My Games folder.
I just installed Rebellion on my laptop (running Vista) and I want to turn off the opening cinematic, but I cannot find the settings file or even the Rebellion settings older. I know it should be in <>AppData/Ironclad Games/ but I don't see the "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion" folder (just the older Trinity folder) and I have my folder options set to show hidden files. So where the heck are my settings files for Rebellion?
Playing vs. humans is definitely more challenging than playing against the AI. Things that worked against a mindless opponent just aren't going to work as well against opponents capable of real strategic thought.
It's possible that Sins players who are interested in role playing do their role playing in actual RPGs.
Your average 5-v-5 PvP game only lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Short of studying replays, it's probably best to just dive right in and study the replays from your games. Be patient and understand that you have to suffer your nooby lumps while you learn how to play it against thinking opponents. If you work at it and study the replays you can get up to speed quickly. I've seen people go from "new to online multiplayer" to "respectable" within a month or two.
