We did not develop or publish Sword of the Stars (that was Kerberos/Paradox) -- you seem to be confusing it with Sins of a Solar Empire, which we did publish.
Retail copies of non-Stardock or Reactor/GOO games cannot be registered with Impulse. However, I do believe the expansions should work with it--if you contact [email protected], they should be able to help.

Yes, we still allow two installs on your own machines for home LAN play.
Please contact [email protected] about this, they should be able to get it straightened out for you.
We permit two LAN seats per license (if the second is not your machine, make sure to remove it afterward). If you wish to have more than two human players, we ask that you purchase additional licenses to cover the rest.
Please contact [email protected] about this, they should be able to get things sorted. If you're having technical issues with Impulse, please contact [email protected] and they should be able to help. We do not offer a standalone version of current updates (there is a full http download of the entire game available via Impulse Anywhere , but it still requires Impulse for installation).
Support is still running a bit behind from the holidays but they definitely should have reached your ticket by now. If you can log on Impulse Chat or irc.stardock.com during business hours, you should be able to have someone pull the ticket up directly and see what's up. Timothy, please contact support as well, they can sort any registration issues.

I don't recall offhand if the Trinity installer prompts for the key on install (generally it's optional if it does), but if so, it should be located under the Software/Stardock branch in the registry under HKLM or HKCU. Failing that, contact [email protected] and they should be able to check if you didn't just register it to a different email address.
If you're having trouble registering the game, please contact [email protected] and they should be able to get you sorted.
Should be sorted shortly.
You'll need to register the game (if not already) and use Impulse to get the latest updates. Standalone updates haven't been provided for a very long while.
Diplomacy should be back up.
