The subject pretty much says it all. How does one combat a fleet of mostly kodiaks? I'm talking 50 or more plus support ships. Just have more heavy cruisers? Tons of bombers?
Based on his posts it appears he's not bothered to read the manual or read the numerous threads in this forum.
Wow. I recommend you quit playing immediately. Maybe try minesweeper. You must not have read the manual very well.

It's not hard. I got space ponies in my first or second game. It's not something you have to work at--just play the game, trust in the ponies, and all will eventually become clear.

I can't tolerate: a) People starting new threads when there are already threads about the same topic that are active on the front page. b) People asking questions that could be answering by reading the manual, doing the tutorials, or spending a few second on Google. c) Atrocious spelling, punctuation, and grammar. If you don't commit any of these offenses, I like to think I'm fairly polite and helpful. If you do, I may or may not come off as rude, depending o
so if it isnt the exploring or the combat visuals, is the stratagy realy the thing that is pulling people in?
Considering it's a strategy game, I would hope people play it for the strategy, yeah.

Uh? Have you tried playing one or more of the races? They have different units, different structures, different tech trees, etc. I'm not sure what your asking. Yes, they obviously have pros and cons but are overall fairly balanced.
Hello AllI have played through the tutorials, read the manual, and played a game against the AI.
That's good--you're off to a better start than many who don't read manuals or do tutorials and then ask dumb questions on the forums. Basically it just takes practice and experience. A few tips I can offer you, though: Don't over-expand. Build up your economic infrastructure first. I generally like to build the capital that can colonize as my first (free)

The game comes with a manual (even the download). Try reading it.

Next time, try searching. There is already a thread about this exact topic on the forums. Also, RTFM.

Oh, and in regards to "epic": If playing a several day-long game on a huge map with 10 or more solar systems with a massive empire and huge fleets isn't "epic" to you, then you don't know "epic".

4X games generally don't have campaigns. In fact, I can't think of one that does. Civilization? Nope. Master of Magic? Nope. Master of Orion? Nope. I think you're missing the point of the game. All the games you listed are RTSes. Sins is not an RTS. It's a 4X game that happens to be played in real-time. If you're seriously not going to play the game because it doesn't have some "campaign", then all I can tell you is do better research before buying games in the future

The way I think fleet upkeep should work is a percentage (as it does now) or a flat amount, whichever is lower. There comes a point when you have a very high income that you should be able to completely support your fleet. It shouldn't cost more to support a fleet the more money you make. It should cost up to a certain flat amount per second. If you make more than that, you keep the leftover instead of permanently losing a percentage of your income no matter how huge that income may be.

Turn orbit radius or whatever it's called under the star section down. If you have 3 planet groups all set to mix, you can just have one with the exact same effect. Try that. Maybe that would help. Also, try raising the max slider on the planet group(s). The only reason you'd need more planet groups is if you want to customize the type of planet, how far away it is, etc. If they're all set to mix, just have one big one.

Yeah, this really bugs me too. I really dislike traditional RTSes--the only I've really liked was SupCom because of its focus on queueing things, automating things, etc along with its scale. It'd be nice if you could queue things up without having the money and it would wait until you have the resources to build it. A system like in Supcom where you can split your income up among multiple projects would be cool, but that would require too major a change to the existing game me

I was playing around with the in-game map generator and I got to about 20 solar systems and about 280 planets before I got bored. Is there a limit? I know that 10 players is the maximum, even if you have 20-something player starts. I want to play an big epic game with lots of solar systems now. :) Maybe not quite 20, but fighting over a single solar system seems kind of small to me. Maybe I'm just used to Eve with its 5000-some-odd solar systems.
Shield mitigation does not decrease the effectiveness of focused firing. It provides a percent damage reduction that is on weather then shields are on or off... only bypassed by the vasari phase missles.By researching certain tech's shield mitigation can be increased, as well as by using certain ship abilities. So if you fire 50 damage worth at a ship with 10% shield mitigation it will take 45 damage. it has nothing to do with how many ships are firing at it.
Wrong.
